ATLANTA, Jan. 3 (Ticker) -- A flurry of 3-pointers gave the Toronto Raptors their first three-game winning streak of the season.

Mike James, Morris Peterson and Darrick Martin each made a pair of 3-pointers in the fourth quarter as the resurgent Raptors rallied for a 108-97 victory over the Atlanta Hawks.

NBA TV highlights from
Raptors-Hawks: Play
James scored 28 points and Chris Bosh added 27 and 12 rebounds for the Raptors (9-22), who erased an 11-point third-quarter deficit and won for the fifth time in seven games. They are 8-7 since a 1-15 start.

Toronto made 10-of-19 3-pointers, including 6-of-7 in the final period, when it took advantage of double-teams on Bosh. James got things started with a pair from the arc on consecutive possessions early in the fourth quarter and Peterson connected for a 90-90 tie with 5:02 to play.

"We figured Chris is going to get double-teamed," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. "We've been talking to Chris about it, telling him to stop trying to make the great pass and make the easy pass. Something good's going to happen."

Two baskets by Joe Johnson and a pair of free throws by Zaza Pachulia gave Atlanta a 96-92 lead with 3:32 to play. Martin, a journeyman point guard, drilled a 3-pointer from the right corner to trigger a closing 16-1 run.

A 3-pointer by Peterson, also from the right corner, snapped a 97-97 tie with 1:55 to play. Just over a minute later, Martin struck again from the top of the arc.

"I've got to take all the open (shots)," said Martin, who was 0-for-2 from behind the arc coming into the fourth quarter. "You can't be bashful playing this game. I've been struggling little bit, but I was able to knock down the shots."

"Wide-open jumpers to guys with their feet set," Bosh said. "Those are the best ones to shoot."

Peterson scored 13 points, Jalen Rose added 11 and Martin eight for the Raptors, who are a very respectable 7-10 on the road. Toronto has won five straight meetings with Atlanta.

"We knew Atlanta would come out ready to play," Peterson said. "I think we wanted it more. I'm glad we hung around. Anytime they made runs, we fought back, and that's the sign of a team growing."

"We're trying to win every game we're playing," Bosh said. "When you lose, you're hungry to get a win. When you win, it feels great. It's a great feeling. I love it."

Johnson, Pachulia and Al Harrington scored 18 points each and Josh Smith added 17 for the Hawks, who have lost four in a row.

Atlanta had seven turnovers and six baskets in the fourth quarter, going scoreless over the final 3:56.

"It was brutal," Hawks coach Mike Woodson said. "We were up seven. We turn the ball over three of the next four possessions. You're not going to beat teams like that. In the crunch time, we settle for jumpers. When jumpers are not falling, you have to drive the ball and try to create either for yourself or your teammates."

"We did settle for a lot of jumpers," Johnson said. "I really just think we need to at least start pump-faking and driving more. We just settled for a lot of jump shots, and it cost us the game at the end."

Smith scored 15 points in the first half as the Hawks grabbed a 53-52 lead. They extended the advantage to 76-65 on a free throw by Pachulia with 3:39 left in the third quarter before the Raptors closed to 80-73 entering the final period.

Toronto 121, Orlando 97
Villanueva, Raptors Blow Past Magic
Box Score  | Raptors Home  | Magic Home

TORONTO, Jan. 4 (Ticker) -- Rookie Charlie Villanueva is making the Toronto Raptors look good. Without Grant Hill, the Orlando Magic looked very bad.

Villanueva scored 11 of his 24 points in the second quarter as the Raptors opened a 19-point lead en route to their fourth straight win, a 121-97 triumph over the Magic.

NBA TV highlights from
Magic-Raptors: Play
Mike James scored 17 points and Morris Peterson added 15 for Toronto, which last won four consecutive contests from December 2-9, 2003.

With star forward Chris Bosh on the bench for the final 20 minutes of the first half because of two early fouls, Villanueva, who was drafted seventh overall after two inconsistent years at Connecticut, fueled a 31-14 run over the last 9 1/2 minutes as the Raptors opened a 61-42 lead at the break.

"Charlie has an unbelievable knack of scoring," Peterson said. "It looks like he's not playing hard but that's just his demeanor. He plays hard and tonight he hit some big shots for us. He's coming along well and he's going to develop into a great player in this league."

Scouts never questioned the 6-11 forward's skills, but there were a lot of questions about his desire and makeup. But Villanueva seems to be answering his critics, being honored as NBA Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month in December and scoring 11 of his 13 first-half points Wednesday over a six-minute span in the decisive spurt.

"I still carry that in my pocket the way guys criticized me when the Raptors drafted me No. 7," Villanueva said. "I want to prove my critics as liars."

Villanueva, who made 10-of-13 shots, started the run with a dunk, added a 3-pointer, a perimeter jumper and a trio of inside hoops. In the first half, Toronto shot 59 percent (23-of-39), held a 21-9 edge on the boards and forced 12 turnovers.

Toronto increased the edge to 75-50 midway through the third period and led by at least 19 points thereafter. The Raptors set season highs in points and winning margin, while shooting a franchise best 63 percent (46-of-73).

"We wanted to continue attacking them all night and not give them any life," James said.

The club won for the sixth time in eight games after a 4-20 start and for just the third time in 15 home contests. The margin of victory was the largest by the Raptors vs. the Magic.

"We dug such a deep hole in November but since then we've been playing good basketball," James said. "We are starting to get into a rhythm as a team but it's going to take a joint effort to do something special because of our poor start."

Hill, who missed the first 19 games of the season after having surgery for a sports hernia on October 31, did not play due to a strained groin and is listed as day-to-day.

Jameer Nelson scored 26 of his career-high 31 points in the second half for the Magic, who dropped their second straight after three wins and set a franchise low with 21 rebounds.

"The stats mean nothing to me unless you put something in the win column," Nelson said.

"I thought we were totally outplayed and outcoached and I give credit to the Raptors for an outstanding performance," Magic coach Brian Hill said.

TORONTO, Jan. 6 (Ticker) -- Mike James showed the Houston Rockets what they were missing.

James scored 30 points, handed out eight assists and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Toronto Raptors to their fifth consecutive win, a 112-92 victory over the Rockets.

NBA TV highlights from
Rockets-Raptors: Play
A member of the Rockets for the second half of last season, James was traded to the Raptors in the offseason for Rafer Alston in a swap of point guards. He was not fondly remembered by his former teammates.

"It was never a Rafer Alston-Mike James matter, it was not about us two," James said. "It was about Toronto playing Houston tonight. my focus is trying to help my team the Raptors get over that hump."

James, who had averaged 23 points and eight assists in his last four games, made a three-point play over forward Juwan Howard midway through the second quarter. He had some words for Howard, who pushed the basketball in James' face and was ejected.

"After that happened, something clicked inside of me," James said.

James responded by scoring 14 points in the third period. He directed an offense that saw the Raptors shoot 50 percent (41-of-82) overall as they became the first team to shoot 50 percent or better against the Rockets.

"I think that kind of woke him up a bit," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. "He was playing well. whatever it released in him, I can take seeing it in about another 50 games."

The Raptors led by as many as 15 points in the third quarter before going into the fourth period with a 77-67 advantage.

Rookie Charlie Villanueva scored the first seven points of the quarter, giving Toronto an 84-67 advantage. The 6-11 rookie had 15 of his 21 points in the period, when the Raptors pulled away.

"I just tried to be more aggressive," Villanueva said. "I was a little soft, but in the second half I became more aggressive at both ends of the floor."

Chris Bosh had 22 points and 16 rebounds and Morris Peterson made four 3-pointers and scored 19 points for Toronto, which won its third straight home game.

Former Raptor Tracy McGrady scored 37 points and David Wesley collected 19 for the Rockets, who went 2-1 on their road trip.

"It was pretty much over in the third quarter," McGrady said. "We weren't focused and those guys were ready to play and they ran away with it."

Sorry Forgot to wrote we lost against Nets and then we played against Bulls:

Quote:

CHICAGO, Jan. 9 (Ticker) -- The Chicago Bulls nearly suffered the indignation of a monumental collapse. Thanks to Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng, they still managed to extend their winning streak.

Hinrich collected 25 points and 11 assists and Deng added 21 points as the Bulls nearly blew a 23-point lead but held on for their third straight win, a 113-104 triumph over the Toronto Raptors.

NBA TV highlights from
Raptors-Bulls: Play
Thanks in large part to a 28-6 charge in the final 9:19 of the first half, Chicago held a 74-51 advantage with 9:03 left in the third quarter. Andres Nocioni scored 11 of his 18 points during the burst while Deng added seven.

"We were struggling in the first quarter then our defense picked it up," Deng said. "In the second quarter we started running and getting baskets in transition."

However, the Raptors started their rally with a 13-0 run in the third period and used a 10-0 burst in the fourth to cut their deficit to 89-87 on Matt Bonner's 3-pointer with 8:11 remaining.

"We got it back in the third quarter when we made some shots," Raptors coach Sam Mitchell said. "We had a run going then we ran out of gas. Then they just made some big shots."

"That's the thing about the NBA it's all about runs," said Raptors guard Jalen Rose, who played for Chicago from 2002-2004. "We didn't attack the basket and didn't get to the free-throw line enough. We came back but they put us out of range with that second quarter."

Chris Bosh scored six of his 26 points during the two surges.

"We did a good job fighting back," Bosh said. "However, we have to look back at what happened at the beginning of the game. If we shared the ball earlier we wouldn't have been in a deep hole."

Ben Gordon and Deng helped the Bulls respond with an 11-2 burst over the next 3:10. Gordon scored seven of his 19 points in the run and Deng capped it with a 3-pointer to make it 98-89. Chicago was not threatened thereafter.

"Our ball movement has been big for us over the past three games," Gordon said. "If we continue to play good on defense and share the ball we'll be all right."

"We had some great moments and we had some shaky moments," Bulls coach Scott Skiles said. "I'm certainly happy to have the win, and we had some guys that played well. Then when it got tight, we had enough big plays to hold them off."

Chicago has won three straight games following a season-worst eight-game slide. It is just the third time the Bulls have won consecutive games this season.

The next game was against Bobcats...That's how it went...

Quote:

Toronto 95, Charlotte 86
Bosh, James Rally Raptors Past Bobcats
Box Score | Raptors Home | Bobcats Home

TORONTO, Jan. 11 (Ticker) -- After slow starts in the first half, Chris Bosh and Mike James went to work.

Bosh scored 29 points and James added 24 as the Toronto Raptors recovered from a 12-point halftime deficit for a 95-86 victory over the Charlotte Bobcats, who have dropped five of their last six games.

NBA TV highlights from
Bobcats-Raptors: Play
Bosh and James combined for 11 points at halftime as Toronto fell into a 45-33 hole. But in the third period, Bosh and James collected 12 points apiece, giving the Raptors a 63-63 tie entering the final frame.

A 3-pointer by Morris Peterson gave Toronto an 89-85 lead with 1:25 left. Bosh added two free throws with 1:07 to go and James swiped rookie Raymond Felton's crossover dribble and finished with a layup to push the lead to eight points with 58 seconds remaining.

"In the first half, we played terrible, but in the second half I thought we pulled together and did what we had to do to win," Peterson said.

"Even though it was an ugly game, I'm just thankful we were able to get the victory," James said. "I just decided to be more aggressive in the second half and asserted myself on the defensive and offensive end and shots started falling."

Bosh collected 10 rebounds and three blocks and James handed out seven assists for the Raptors, who have won four of their last five home games. Peterson added 18 points and 11 boards.

"Coach (Sam Mitchell) told us at the half that they (Charlotte) seem to want the game more than us, and we came out in the second half with more intensity," said Bosh, who recorded his 18th double-double of the season.

Jumaine Jones scored 17 points on 7-of-8 shooting off the bench for Charlotte, which held Toronto to 35 percent (14-of-40) shooting in the first half.

Primoz Brezec had 16 points and eight rebounds and Gerald Wallace added 15 and seven. The Raptors scored 30 points in the third quarter to erase the halftime deficit.

Charlotte lost point guard Brevin Knight to lower back spasms in the second quarter, leaving only nine players available for the second half.

Fatigue seemed to be a factor in the closing minutes for the Bobcats, who did not have a basket during the final 4:20. Charlotte was coming off Tuesday's double-overtime win over Houston.

"Obviously, if you've only got nine or 10 guys that play a lot of minutes over two nights, you're not able to rotate the ball as well to your shooters," coach Bernie Bickerstaff said. "When it was winning time we didn't get it done, but I'm proud of their effort tonight."

Against Knicks:

Rose Scores 21 in First Half, Raptors Roll
Box Score  | Raptors Home  | Knicks Home

TORONTO, Jan. 15 (Ticker) -- Jalen Rose helped put an emphatic end to the New York Knicks' winning streak.

Rose scored 21 of his season-high 31 points in the first half and Morris Peterson added a season-high 28 as the Toronto Raptors halted the Knicks' six-game winning streak with a 129-103 win.

NBA TV highlights from
Knicks-Raptors: Play
Toronto's previous high was 128 points, set against Philadelphia on March 13, 2005, and against Dallas on March 10, 1996.

It also was the largest margin of victory for Toronto this season and the biggest defeat this season for New York, which lost for the first time in 2006.

"We knew they were coming in as one of the hottest teams in the league and we stepped up and had a great first half in particular," Rose said. "We were able to feed off of that first half and finish off the game."

Rose came off the bench with two minutes left in the first quarter. He converted a three-point play before the stanza ended, then scored 14 of the Raptors' first 16 points in the second as they opened a 51-35 edge with 6 1/2 minutes left.

"I was just being aggressive and my teammates were finding me in positions to make plays, and fortunately for me a lot of the shots were going in," Rose said, whose 18 points in the second quarter was the most by a Raptors player in a quarter this season.

Toronto took a 66-53 edge into the break and Rose scored eight points during a 21-6 run that started early in the fourth quarter, providing a 118-88 margin with 5:30 to play.

Rose shot 10-of-15 from the floor and 10-of-11 from the line, while Peterson went 11-of-16 from the field with four 3-pointers.

Chris Bosh added 23 points and Jose Calderon, starting in place of the injured Mike James (back spasms), chipped in 13 and 10 assists for for Toronto, which shot 58 percent (47-of-81) and scored at least 30 points in all four quarters for the first time in franchise history.

"It is probably the most complete game we have played this season," Bosh said. "We played great defense, outrebounded them, had more assists than they did and shot a better field goal percentage."

Eddy Curry scored all 20 of his points in the first half and Stephon Marburyhad 18 and 13 assists for New York.

"We didn't have that sense of urgency that we've been playing with during this winning streak," Marbury said. "This definitely feels like a step backwards with the way we've been playing."

Next game was against Utah...

Quote:

Utah 111, Toronto 98
Kirilenko’s Triple-Double Leads Jazz
Box Score  | Jazz Home  | Raptors Home

SALT LAKE CITY, Jan. 17 (Ticker) -- Andrei Kirilenko usually does a little bit of everything for the Utah Jazz. He did quite a bit extra against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday.

Kirilenko recorded his first career triple-double with 18 points, 16 rebounds and 11 assists as the Jazz halted a two-game slide by rolling past the Raptors, 111-98.

NBA TV highlights from
Raptors-Jazz: Play
Mehmet Okur scored 29 points to pace the Jazz, who handed the Raptors just their third loss in 10 games.

Kirilenko, who matched his career best in rebounds and set a career high in assists, became the first Jazz player to accomplish the feat since John Stockton did so in an April 28, 2001 playoff game against the Dallas Mavericks. The team's last regular season triple-double was on May 4, 1999, when Karl Malone pulled it off against the Los Angeles Clippers.

"I like it, I like doing everything because America is a stats country. Every stat counts," Kirilenko said. "I like it, I'm happy with it, but I'm more happy we won the game. I like to see big digits and stats, but we won the game and I like that much more."

"Andrei was terrific. He was all over the place. He was terrific defensively, he shot the ball well and did a terrific job passing the ball," Utah coach Jerry Sloan said. "I never took him out the second half. Usually I take him out, but he was so alive tonight I didn't take him out at all."

Utah held a 101-87 advantage with 3:44 left when Kirilenko - who had two previous efforts for his 10th assist thwarted - found Devin Brown for a layup. The Russian celebrated with a fist pump while sending the sellout crowd into a frenzy.

"All fourth quarter, the whole bench was screaming, 'Andrei, you need two more, one more!" Kirilenko said. "I tried two or three times, Matt (Harpring) missed a couple times and one time I lost the ball, but I finally got the pass to Devin, he scored and everybody was happy."

"He told me as soon as he passed it to me, he yelled at me to shoot it," Brown said. "I had to shoot it regardless because I know he was up there stat-watching."

Brown was the recipient of Kirilenko's ninth and 10th assists, finishing with 15 points on 5-of-6 shooting.

Brown has seen his minutes dwindle in recent games, and it was revealed after Tuesday's game that he and Sloan had a minor dispute during the team's shootaround session regarding the fourth-year guard's recent play.

"There was an altercation at the shootaround. I'm not going to go into details about it, but I'll just say that both sides are happy," Brown said. "I came out with a chip on my shoulder tonight because when someone's questioning your integrity and your passion for the game, you just want to come out and prove yourself."

"We talked. That's all I'll say about it. We had a little disagreement," Sloan said. "I questioned him a little bit, if he was gonna work hard. If you don't play hard and I take you out of the ballgame, that should be enough to explain to you that you ought to play harder the next time."

The Jazz got off to a flying start thanks to 11 points from Okur in the opening session. His layup with 4:37 left gave Utah the lead for good, 15-14.

Matt Bonner, who scored all 12 of his points on 5-of-5 first-half shooting, got the Raptors within 38-36 at the 6:28 mark, but Okur helped the Jazz take a 54-47 lead into the break.

Rookie Joey Graham connected on a jumper 1:08 into the third period to cut Toronto's deficit to 56-51. However, Kirilenko scored 10 points and Okur added nine to lead a 27-13 burst the rest of the quarter to give the Jazz an 87-72 bulge, and they never were threatened thereafter.

"That was huge for us," Okur said. "Everybody was looking for each other. We played unselfish basketball."

"I think we played pretty good defense. We ran the floor and executed our offense," Kirilenko said. "We got a 20-point lead and that let us play with a little more freedom."

Chris Bosh finished with 27 points for the Raptors, who began a five-game West Coast road trip in disappointing fashion.

"Hopefully we learned something from (the loss)," Toronto coach coach Sam Mitchell said. "We don't have a choice (but to bounce back) since we play tomorrow night. That's just the nature of the NBA...But you can't say anything about Utah except that they just executed and outplayed us."
