Fifth One Day International versus India
So it was a washout, without a ball being bowled. After the game was abandoned, there was a bit of violence from fustrated Indian supporters, who had been at the ground for hours only to be told it was off.

-
Serious crowd trouble followed the abandonment of the fifth one-day match between India and England in Guwahati. The 20,000 sell-out crowd had waited for several hours without seeing a single ball bowled when the decision to call the game off was taken.
Some battled with the police and threw bricks onto the outfield, prompting police to fire tear gas into the crowd and at least 12 were injured.
The teams had been whisked away by an armed escort before the trouble began.
Nikul Gogoi, senior superintendent at the ground, said the police had tried to restrain themselves in controlling the situation.
"When the tear gas was fired, that was the minimum force (necessary) to disperse the mob because people had become very unruly," he told the BBC Asian Network.
Riot police were eventually called in after three officers had been hurt by flying bricks.
"Two are seriously injured, one has minor injuries. Two persons have been arrested because they pelted stones at our people and were caught red-handed," the superintendent added.
Groundstaff had done their utmost to get the game under way - the first appearance by India in Guwahati for four years - and had even brought in a helicopter and used its rotor blades to dry the pitch.
But it was all in vain as the players and umpires deemed the playing surface unfit for the match to go ahead.
Umpire Rudi Koertzen told BBC Sport: "We have to consider the safety of the players and both camps were adamant they were not happy with the run-ups and the fielding areas, particularly the slip cordon.
"That is why it had to be called off."
He said he sympathised with the crowd and understood their frustration but there was no alternative except to call the game off.
"People have been sitting here all day waiting for the game to take place. They haven't had any cricket for years so you can understand how they feel," he added.
"The crowd will be volatile, that is human nature, but I didn't feel threatened - most of the crowd was stable."
A spokesman for the Assam Cricket Association said some of the crowd had been at the ground from 5am, having travelled long distances to see the game.
"We tried our best to organise the match. We hired the helicopter - we paid 90,000 rupees for a one-hour flight. From our organisation's side, we have done everything possible," he commented.
"I went to the players' dressing rooms, they told me 'Yes, if the umpires decide, we are ready to play'.
"We are not happy [with the decision of the umpires]. We tried our best and this could have been avoided by having the match played.
"But the crowd will get their money back because we insured the match."
If the match had gone ahead, Andrew Strauss and Virender Sehwag would have led the two teams, with skippers Andrew Flintoff and Rahul Dravid opting to take a break.
India had already clinched the series with victories in the first four games. The teams now head to Jamshedpur for the next game on Wednesday.
At least we avoided a whitewash. The next game is on Wednesday in Jamshedpur.

A question for England cricket fans - who do you think is the better spin bowler in both Test and One-Day matches - Ashley Giles, Shaun Udal, Monty Panesar or Ian Blackwell?

Sixth One Day International versus India
So the end is near. The penultimate ODI between India and England was played yesterday. The teams were:
England
Strauss Bell Solanki Pietersen Collingwood Prior Plunkett Blackwell Hoggard Anderson Mahmood
India
Sehwag Dhoni Kaif Yuvraj Singh Raina Rao Powar Harbhajan Singh R P Singh V R V Singh Patel
No Flintoff for this match.

- "BBC Sport"
-
Acting captain Andrew Strauss made 74 as England won their first match of the series, beating India by five wickets in the sixth one-dayer in Jamshedpur.
Strauss shared 107 with Ian Bell (46) before cramp forced him to retire hurt, while Kevin Pietersen hit a rapid 33.
A century stand between MS Dhoni and Ramesh Powar had lifted India to 223, after they were 79-5 in the 16th over.
Dhoni smashed three sixes in a cavalier 96, Powar made his first one-day fifty, while James Anderson captured 3-28.
Strauss set the tone for the England reply with three boundaries in the third over of the innings, bowled by RP Singh.
Bell also looked in fine touch, twice hitting two fours in an over, although he was reprieved on 20 when superbly caught at fine-leg off a no-ball from debutant Vikram Singh.
Spin was introduced after 13 overs but Harbhajan dropped short and was promptly cut off the back foot by Strauss for four.
Bell's fluent innings ended on 46 in the 20th over when he was defeated by a doosra from Harbhajan.
Strauss enjoyed a stroke of fortune on 60 when he edged a cut and the ball rebounded out of Dhoni's gloves.
The next ball brought a wicket, however, as Vikram Solanki danced down the wicket and was beaten in the flight as the ball spun in sharply.
Strauss' main problem was the intense heat that caused him considerable pain, and after briefly using Solanki as a runner he left the field.
Pietersen hit an extravagant front foot swivel pull and raced to 33, but having taken his team within 26 of victory he got a leading edge to Harbhajan.
Paul Collingwood (23), dropped on five by Yuvraj Singh at backward point, held firm after some injudicious strokes had made victory more difficult than it should have been.
Matt Prior (3) tried a lofted drive against Harbhajan and found mid-off, while Liam Plunkett attempted to sweep Powar from way outside off-stump and got a bottom edge to slip.
Ian Blackwell ended the match in style with a four and a huge straight six off Powar.
With the series already decided, both captains opted to miss the match.
On a sweltering day with temperatures nearing 50 degrees, it seemed as though England's bowlers were in for more toil when Sehwag cut the first ball from Anderson to the fence, but still in the opening over he nicked to slip.
Dhoni began in typically explosive fashion and hit Matthew Hoggard out of the attack, the Yorkshireman conceding 21 from his first two overs.
Mohammad Kaif was reprieved on nine when Collingwood spilled a chance at square cover, but was trapped on the crease for 15 by Sajid Mahmood.
Liam Plunkett was introduced into the attack in the 11th over and struck with his third ball when Yuvraj pulled onto his stumps.
Strauss chose to take the second powerplay immediately and it brought him the key wicket of Suresh Raina.
The left-hander made two before he glanced Plunkett down the leg-side and Prior, keeping wicket for the resting Geraint Jones, took the catch to his right.
Strauss completed his powerplays and the change brought immediate success as Anderson caught Venugopal Rao's edge.
The stocky Powar hit the first six of the match in the 27th over when he backed away against Blackwell and launched him over extra-cover.
Dhoni's fearsome straight drive for six brought up the fifty partnership from 73 balls.
The extreme heat caused problems for both sides, Plunkett struck down by cramp, local hero Dhoni requiring ice packs and Prior vomiting behind the stumps.
Dhoni almost wound himself off his feet in depositing Vikram Solanki out of the ground, leaving Strauss with his first captaincy problems.
With Plunkett off the field he turned to Mahmood, but he too was soon hampered by cramp.
The century stand came from 108 balls but was ended after a drinks break.
With cooling mechanisms jutting out from his shirt, Dhoni clipped the first ball after the resumption from Mahmood, straight to mid-wicket.
Pietersen took his first international wicket when an off-break sneaked through Harbhajan Singh, the batsman bizarrely remaining at the crease for some while after his stumps had been knocked back.
Powar's inventive 54 ended with a well-judged catch by Hoggard running around from the long-on boundary.
Debutant Vikram Singh was dropped on nought off Blackwell, Bell inexplicably spilling a chance that went straight in and out of his hands on the boundary.
Blackwell made no mistake in the field, moving from mid-off to pouch a skied miscue from RP Singh and safely taking Vikram Singh at mid-on to end the innings two overs prematurely.

fair enough. dont know how old he is, but it seems like he's been around for ages.
Seventh One Day International versus India
England: 288 All Out India: 289-3 India win series 5-1
It was never in doubt. India walked this series. The last match was an opportunity to recover some pride for England. The teams were:
England
Strauss Bell Prior Pietersen Collingwood G Jones Blackwell Plunkett Kabir Ali Mahmood Anderson
India
Uthappa Dravid Yuvraj Singh Raina Pathan Rao Karthik Powar RP Singh VRV Singh Sreesanth

- "BBC Sport"
-
England's tour to the sub-continent finished on a low note as India handed out a seven-wicket beating in the final one-day international at Indore.
India sealed a 5-1 series win after Robin Uthappa (86) and Rahul Dravid (69) put on 166 for the first wicket.
They fell in quick succession, but Yuvraj Singh's unbeaten 64 saw them home on 289-3 with five balls to spare.
Kevin Pietersen (64), Paul Collingwood (64) and Geraint Jones (53) were the mainstays of England's 288 all out.
Pace bowler Sri Sreesanth took 6-55 for India, but England's seamers could not match his penetration as they tried in vain to defend the total and only Liam Plunkett produced the required accuracy to keep the home batsmen in check.
Uthappa's score was the highest by an Indian debutant in a limited overs international and he hit 12 fours and a steepling six off James Anderson which landed on the roof of the stand at long leg.
India looked well set for a 10-wicket win when the 20-year-old lazily ambled a second run and was smartly run out by Jones after Anderson threw back from the boundary where he had made a diving save.
Dravid had been in no trouble whatsoever, feasting on a regular diet of leg-stump deliveries from Anderson, Sajid Mahmood and Kabir Ali, and it was a surprise when Mahmood had him lbw in the next over.
But that was just about as good as it got for England, who dropped Yuvraj on 13 and 30 as Jones and skipper Andrew Strauss failed to hold difficult chances.
He went past 4,000 one-day runs during a stand of 115 with Raina, who was bowled by Kabir for 53 with only eight runs needed, and wrapped things up by crashing Anderson to the long-off boundary for his seventh four.
Earlier in the day, Dravid put England in after winning the toss and Sreesanth removed Strauss (25), again in charge with Andrew Flintoff extending his rest, and Matt Prior (two) in an impressive opening spell.
He returned at the death to sweep away the England tail - his final two wickets came off the last two balls of the innings as Plunkett and Mahmood gave VRV Singh catching practice at long-on.
It also gave Singh something to smile about after bearing the brunt of the punishment handed out by England earlier in the innings, conceding 26 in one over which saw Pietersen hit a six and four fours.
After slumping to 47-2, the tourists were revived by a partnership of 63 in just seven overs between Pietersen and Ian Bell.
Having failed to score a single century since arriving in the sub-continent, Pietersen was clearly in the mood to end the tour in style and tore into India's support seamers with a confident air bordering on arrogance.
His call for a quick single led to Bell being run out for 32, but it did not disturb England's momentum as Collingwood eased himself in by clipping RP Singh away square for four and driving straight for six in the same over, a blow which cleared the sightscreen.
Pietersen was treated by the team physio during a drinks break and Prior was summoned from the dressing room to act as runner.
But it proved to be a brief assignment as Pietersen hoisted Yuvraj to deep mid-wicket where Uthappa took the catch.
Yuvraj and fellow spinner Ramesh Powar succeeded in reeling in the scoring rate by varying their pace intelligently, but Collingwood and Jones were content to bide their time and await the return of the seamers.
Collingwood's second six brought up his 11th one-day fifty off 67 balls but Jones, who greeted VR Singh's return with three boundaries in an over, needed 19 balls fewer to reach his half century.
He flashed at a ball from Sreesanth soon after and keeper Dinesh Karthik claimed a diving catch and when Collingwood had been taken at long-on off Irfan Pathan, the task of pushing the score beyond 300 proved beyond the England tail.

That is so depressing. We need to place more emphasis on ODIs, even having the ODI series before the tests. England don't play until 11th May, against Sri Lanka at Lords. India next play on the 18th against Pakistan.
