The season starts today with reigning champions Nottinghamshire taking on the MCC at Lord's in the traditional curtain-raiser.

The 4-day match starts at 11am BST today. This is the squad for the MCC:

J Stephenson (capt), R Bopara (Essex), R Clarke (Surrey), A Cook (Essex), S Davies (Worcs, wkt), M Footitt (Notts) E Joyce (Middlesex), R Key (Kent), A Loudon (Warwicks), M Panesar (Northants), L Parker (Warwicks).

As you can see, M Footitt will be playing against his current club Nottinghamshire as he was called up due to an injury. He replaces Stuart Broad.

England hopeful Alex Loudon's 123 was not enough to prevent MCC losing to Nottinghamshire by 142 runs at Lord's.

Loudon, who was selected for the tour of Pakistan but bowled only four overs in a warm-up match, hit 19 fours and a six in only his second first-class ton.

Earlier England batsman Alastair Cook shared 64 with Loudon and made 51 before he was the first to fall.

Tim Bresnan weighed in with 94 including 11 fours and three sixes but was last out short of a maiden century.

MCC began the final day on 24-1 with realistic intentions concentrating on batting out the day rather than achieving a target of 495.

Left-hander Cook, who made a century on his Test debut in India, struck a total of 11 fours in his 55-ball innings before he was lbw playing across the line to left-armer Ryan Sidebottom

Ed Joyce, then played an injudicious stroke and edged behind first ball.

Off-spinner Graeme Swann had mixed fortunes on the final morning.

His first two deliveries were hit for six and four by Rikki Clarke, but he gained his revenge by bowling the Surrey all-rounder shortly before lunch with one that turned sharply out of the footmarks.

Having shared 111 in 24 overs with Bresnan, Loudon attempted a force off the back foot and snicked to Chris Read.

John Stephenson fell two balls later and when England spinner Monty Panesar was superbly caught by Graeme Swann at third slip, Bresnan was left with just number 11 Mark Footitt as he strived to reach three figures.

He attempted to do so in one hit but lofted part-time seamer David Hussey straight to mid-wicket.

The Liverpool Victoria County Championship gets underway at 11am (BST) with Lancashire taking on Hampshire at Old Trafford.

In the end, Sri Lanka drew with the British University side.

England A announced their team for the Tour Match against Sri Lanka. Robert Key captain's the side which features six of the 'A' players who went to the West Indies.

England A: Robert Key (capt), Alastair Cook, Owais Shah, Ed Joyce, Ravi Bopara, Alex Loudon, Rikki Clarke, Chris Read, Liam Plunkett, Chris Tremlett, Sajid Mahmood.

I might be going to the England v Pakistan 4th Test Match! The first day - my birthday - is sold out, as is Day 2 and 3. Day 4 and 5 are available so we might be going to Day 4. I've had a look and I think only Block 16 is available as they are selling quite fast. My Dad works evenings so I have to wait until the morning for him to give me the OK because he was worried about the seating (we were talking on the phone you see). It's at the Oval. Now my Dad is worring about parking...

Cool ;)

We're not going to the Test now. Worrying about Parking. But I suggested Hampshire v West Indies A to him which is on the same day.

In Cricket News, Derbyshire have started their Tour Match against Sri Lanka and are in bat - currently 48-0. New Zealand have declared on 593-8 against South Africa in their test. Mushtaq Ahmed took seven wickets to help Sussex to a 94 run win over Hampshire at Hove.

What a game I saw at the Rose Bowl today!

"BBC Sport"

James Bruce took three wickets in five balls to lift Hampshire to a 62-run D/L win against Gloucestershire.

Hampshire were bowled out for 221, Zimbabwean Greg Lamb top-scoring with 59 and Dimitri Mascarenhas adding a six and a four in his 36 from 34 balls.

The visitors were set 214 in 46 overs, later revised to 210 from 42, but Bruce ousted three leading batsmen for ducks.

Mark Hardinges hit three fours and three sixes in 60 but was last out as Shaun Udal (3-42) ended the innings.

Hardinges hit Udal clean out of the ground over midwicket before slicing him high to cover.

At the moment Sussex and Lancashire are top of their C&G groups...

i dont understand why theyve changed the c & g format. it was better as a straight knockout rather than being in a league. in a knockout, if u lose, ur out. this system means that a team can lose a few and still go through.
