I went to Liam Botham's Testimonal 20/20 match yesterday at the Rose Bowl - the match was between Liam Botham's Legends XI against a Hampshire Legends XI. Hampshire needed a six off the last ball to win - and got it! - but it's all for fun. I got loads of autographs like I normally do :P, such as the Flower brothers, Murray Goodwin, Justin Langer, Andy Caddick, Ian and Liam Botham and more! Flintoff was there but there were too many people in front of me to get his autograph. He then went, but I saw myself on Sky Sports News earlier today (trying to get it) :eek2:

Andy Caddick is really tall, and Flintoff umpired (and was on his phone all the time) :eek2:

The England and Wales Cricket Board has agreed to reduce the number of overseas players that a county could play in domestic cricket at any one time to one from the 2008 season.

During a consultation process, led by ECB deputy chief executive Hugh Morris, it became clear that an overwhelming number of counties supported the reduction from two to one overseas player.

Counties reported that it has become increasingly difficult to attract a second overseas player for a full season, overseas boards were recalling players at more frequent intervals and that Counties wished to provide more opportunities for talented players qualified for England.

The view of the chairmen, along with the opinions from the chief executives, cricket directors and the PCA was discussed by the ECB board at their meeting at Lord’s yesterday (Tuesday) and the proposal for a reduction was passed unanimously.

From 2008 counties will be able to register one overseas player but would be able to replace that player should he be injured, called up for an overseas tour at short notice or be required to return home by his Board.

A maximum number of four overseas players could be registered in one season under the new proposals with a minimum three week registration period for each player.

The ECB board also heard that counties heralded the success of the Performance Related Fee Payments, introduced this season as a part of the ECB’s strategic plan, and sought an expansion of this programme in 2006.

PRFP will be trebled in 2007 to provide further encouragement to the development of Successful England Teams.

Darren Gough has been recalled to England's provisional 30-man squad for the ICC Champions Trophy in October.
The 35-year-old bowler last played in a one-day international in July 2005.

England also named players recovering from injury, including Andrew Flintoff, James Anderson, Ian Blackwell, Ashley Giles and Liam Plunkett.

There are five uncapped players in Ravi Bopara, Stuart Broad, Mal Loye, Graham Onions and Michael Yardy but Kabir Ali has been omitted.

And England man-of-the-moment, spinner Monty Panesar, has also been overlooked for what is considered a mini version of the World Cup.

Chairman of selectors David Graveney said: "I'll probably ring him to explain that the door is not completely shut but for him the best thing is if he concentrates on Test cricket."

England, runners-up in the 2004 Champions Trophy, need to trim the squad down to 14 by 7 September.

Graveney explained why the recovering players had been included at this stage.

He said: "The medical advice we have received is that there is a good chance that they will be available for the tournament but we will need to review their progress before the squad has to be reduced to 14 on 7 September.

"We have kept faith with the bulk of the squad who appeared against Sri Lanka as we feel there were encouraging individual performances in that series despite the disappointing results overall.

"Darren Gough has been a regular member of the Essex side this season and worked hard to overcome the knee injury which limited his county appearances last summer.

"He is performing well for Essex and I am sure he will be seeking to further impress the selectors over the next few weeks as will all the other pace bowlers in our 30."

Veteran Gough, who has played 157 one-day games for England and taken 235 wickets, opted out of last winter's overseas tours to spend more time with his famly but found fame after winning the BBC's Strictly Come Dancing.

He said: "My performances have been there this season and you can't ignore them. This selection keeps my World Cup dream alive and although I'm realistic and know you have to take one month at a time I hope this will ultimately enable me to go to the World Cup - which has always been my aim."

The Champions Trophy one-day tournament will be held between 7 October and 5 November in India and is between the top six ranked teams plus two qualifiers from current Trophy holders West Indies, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Zimbabwe.

Each team plays three matches in a group round robin with the top two in each group advancing to the semi-finals.

England are in tough group with Australia, hosts India plus a qualifier and play their first match on 15 October.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Champions Trophy provisional squad:

Batsmen: Ian Bell (Warks), Ravi Bopara (Essex), Alastair Cook (Essex), Ed Joyce (Middx), Mal Loye (Lancs), Kevin Pietersen (Hants), Vikram Solanki (Worcs), Andrew Strauss (Middx), Marcus Trescothick (Somst)

Wicket-keepers: Geraint Jones (Kent), Chris Read (Notts)

All-rounders: Ian Blackwell (Somst), Tim Bresnan (Yorks), Andrew Flintoff (Lancs), Glen Chapple (Lancs), Rikki Clarke (Surrey), Paul Collingwood (Durham), James Dalrymple (Middx), Alex Loudon (Warks), Michael Yardy (Sussex)

Bowlers: James Anderson (Lancs), Stuart Broad (Leics), Ashley Giles (Warks), Darren Gough (Essex), Stephen Harmison (Durham), Matthew Hoggard (Yorks), Jon Lewis (Gloucs), Sajid Mahmood (Lancs), Graham Onions (Durham), Liam Plunkett (Durham)

Why England persist with Giles I don't know. The guy's about 35 and one of the most defensive bowlers around. We should build for the future, and the future is Monty.

Cool. He should have been looked at for the Pakistan ODI series. He was good this season.

Also - the first match of the ICC Champions Trophy proper has started - India v England. England are currently in bat and are 11-2 :| Ian Bell and Flintoff have gone :wall:

A live scorecard can be accessed through the BBC Sport news thing at the bottom of this page. (It says "Live: India v England")
