I dont know how popular it is to discuss a middle norwegian team, but here is the thread 8) ![]() Location: Trondheim, Norway Homeground: Lerkendal stadion (cap: ca 21.000) Internet: http://www.rbkweb.com (here you can see a english version) Founded: May, 19, 1917 Nickname: Troilongan League Championships: 19 1967, 1969, 1971, 1985, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 20001, 2002, 2003, 2004 Cup championships: 9 1960, 1964, 1971, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1995, 1999, 2003 The doubles: 7 1971, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1995, 1999, 2003 Best Europeencupachievement: Quarterfinal in Champ. League, 1996/1997 History: The club was founded in 1917, but in the first 40 years RBK was just a "neighbourhood club" for youngsters who wanted to play football, ice hockey and handball. Rosenborg was far from being a top club in their hometown of Trondheim. But in 1960 a miracle happened: Rosenborg, totally unknown for Norwegian football fans, came from nowhere and won the Norwegian cup! Four years later they copied this success, and won the cup once more. In 1967 Rosenborg qualified for the Norwegian premier division for the first time, and in their first season they went all the way and won the championship! After some glory days in the 1960s and the start of the 70s, the club went into 15 years of depression. In 1977 the club played in 2nd division (second highest level in Norway at that time) and if it had not been for devoting fans and club members, Rosenborg would probably have been "erased" from Norwegian football. Led by their legandary coach, Nils Arne Eggen, Rosenborg managed to turn the bad sitution around and things soon looked brighter. In 1985 the club was back on the top by winning the Norwegian league after a thrilling final round game against the old rivals Lillestrøm. This was the start of the golden age for Rosenborg. Since 1988 RBK have won the league 14 times and the cup 6 times! The club managed to qualify for the UEFA Champions League 8 years in a row (European record!) between 1995 and 2002, even though they often met hard opponents like Besiktas and Panathinaikos in the qualifying games. In the 1996-97 season Rosenborg for sure was "discovered" by Football Europe by beating AC Milan 2-1 away at the San Siro. This ment title favourites AC Milan was knocked out of the Champions League, while Rosenborg went through to the quarter-finals, as the first Norwegian club ever. In the last decade, many big European clubs have bought players from Rosenborg. John Carew (Valencia, Roma, Besiktas, Lyon), André Bergdølmo (Ajax, Borussia Dortmund), Steffen Iversen (Tottenham, Wolverhampton), Bjørn Tore Kvarme (Liverpool, St. Etienne, Real Sociedad, Bastia), Øyvind Leonhardsen (Wimbledon, Liverpool, Tottenham, Aston Villa), Harald Brattbakk (Celtic), Vegard Heggem (Liverpool) and Stig Inge Bjørnebye (Liverpool, Blackburn) are just a few examples. Nevertheless the club has always managed to find good replacements for the players leaving Lerkendal Stadium. Even though Rosenborg could have used the income from transfer fees and Champions League prize money to buy players from all over the world, they have continued to sign Norwegian domestic players. In the moment all first team players are from Norway, mostly from the city of Trondheim and the surrounding areas. The club states that they are "a local club with local players entertaining the hometown fans". Rosenborg have an average attendance of 17,500 at league matches. This is impressive in a city of just 150,000 inhabitants. from rbkweb.com Read more about Rosenborg BallKlub here. Players: ![]() Upper from left: 2.Miika Koppinen, 5.Christer Basma (def), 26.Bjørn Tore Kvarme (def), 13.Lars Hirchfeld (kep), 28.Alexander Lund Hansen (kep), 1.Espen Johnsen (kep), 10.Vidar Riseth (def), Thorstein Helstad (soled to SK Brann), 9.Frode Johnsen (for). Its already a year ago... The game in Athens. Olympiacos-Rosenborg. The opening game in the 10th season in the groupstage of Champ. League. Rosenborg had 6 loss on row in Tippeligaen before the game and they was on the 13th place by 14! Rosenborg hadnt won a game in CL since 2001 (2-0 Celtic) and hadnt won a awaygame since 1999 (Dortmund 3-0)! But they was also ready for a new season in CL after a dramatic game against Steaua. Olympiacos took the lead after 17 minutes. Alejandro Lago from Uruguay scored his second owngoal on one month and it was 1-0. Rosenborg became better and better and the 18 year old talent Per Ciljan Skjelbred scored in his first Champions League-game. 1-1 Until half-time! It was a great result. Olympiacos couldnt start the second half more worse than they did: 3 Olympiacos-players touched the ball, and Stoltidis scored. 1-2! Olympiacos domintaed the last half and had many big chances but our keeper played well. Then, at stoppichtime, scored Rosenborg again. Daniel Braaten did a good job and Storflor came alone with their keeper and scored. 1-3. |

No place. They ended on 7th place last season. But we will back next season. Hopefully in CL
Standings: 1.Brann, 37p (Champions League, second qualround) 2.Rosenborg, 36p (UEFA-cup, first qualround) 3.Lillestrøm, 33p (UEFA-cup, first qualround) The winner of the cupfinal will go into the second qualround of the UEFA-cup. The winner of the fair-play stage in Norway will maybe go into the first qualround of the UEFA-cup. Fairplay-standings: 1.Rosenborg 2.Brann 3.Fredrikstad (HamKam is on the last place so all hope is out there )It is 6 matchdays again in Tippeligaen btw, and we are at the semifinals in the cup. Rosenborg - Sandefjord and Fredrikstad - Start is the macthes there. |
