The second set of World Cup qualifying matches in this international break take place tomorrow. England can qualify tomorrow with a win over Croatia. They beat Croatia 1-4 in Zagreb before with a hat-trick from Walcott There are quite a few qualifiers (see all the fixtures here) but the ones that will interest TC2ers are: Northern Ireland v Slovakia Hungary v Portugal (Portugal on the edge of failure )Brazil v Chile (1st v 2nd I think in South America) Saudi Arabia v Bahrain (first leg was 0-0. The winner of this goes on to play New Zealand) Cameroon v Gabon Paraguay v Argentina Trinidad & Tobago v USA Liechtenstein v Finland Scotland v Netherlands (Scotland need a win to secure a play-off spot) Wales v Russia Bosnia & Herzegovina v Turkey Belarus v Ukraine England v Croatia Norway v Macedonia Romania v Austria Italy v Bulgaria Serbia v France (Serbia can qualify with a win - if France win, it gets interesting) |

1-1 for us at H/T - Serbia definitely didn't deserve their penalty, and Lloris got sent off for it as well! Mandanda came in, but despite going the right way, he couldn't stop it from going in. We've got an Italian for a ref - that's all that needs to be said, it's a conspiracy with those bastards really Thank god Henry was there to put in the rebound after Anelka's shot bounced off of Stoikovic We must score in the second half, it's an absolute must.

France for the play-off then. What a performance from England there - 5-1! England were class just like in Zagreb for the 1-4 match and they deserve to be in South Africa, unlike Austria and Switzerland last year. The team was solid all round, but Croatia were quite poor as well Heskey didn't do anything as usual though, but Defoe was even quieter, so the debate continues regarding who should partner Rooney. Capello can experiment now they've qualified with two games to spare - Belarus at home and Ukraine away are the last matches to play. Glen Johnson improved since the Slovenia game, although he nearly gave away a penalty (should have been given really), and messed up earlier after a few one-two's with Terry. Apart from that, he looked decent. Terry, Upson and Ashley Cole looked composed at the back too. Even Green was solid - didn't have much to do but was good when called upon. Aaron Lennon was great and deserved that man of the match award - a shame he didn't get a goal to go with it though! Barry had a lot of the ball and did well. Gerrard looked good on the left although I'm sure he can do better, despite two good headed goals Lampard was great too. The penalty was deserved and his second goal was good.Runje, Croatia's goalkeeper, looked great but the 5th goal was a great blooper Looking forward to seeing them at the finals! |

Runje's mistake reminded me of the Cole/Robinson mistake xD Brilliant game, 3 goals from headers, 1 penalty and a tap in ENGLAND TO WIN THE WORLD CUP ... but then screw it up somehow against Phil Scolari |

It's stuff like this that is really annoying Just because they won like this doesn't mean they'll win the World Cup - everyone including the media does this every tournament and then they fail under the weight of expectation.

8 competitive wins in a row. That's probably Englands best ever record. Before anyone else can say it: EASY, EASY EASY! |

Right, it's certain we're going to the play-off:
With our next two matches being against the Faroes and Austria, there's no excuse as to why we can't get all 6 points. However, I'm hoping for a better result against the Faroe Islands, I mean we can't just score once like we did in the last match, that's ass. We were able to hit 6 past them with ease not too long ago, that 1-0 was a tad bit embarrassing even if we did win, because we dominated but failed to find the net. Then there's Austria, and we all remember what happened in Vienna. If we don't beat them as well, then there's going to be some doubt ahead of the playoff. All we need is 3 points to be safe, but I think the full 6 points would be good to close the group stages with a little confidence after what has been a frustrating campaign for us. |

France's performances have been poor, but they will easly get the play-off spot and most likely win it. Impressive win for England again and I'm curious how they'll do it in the finals. I can sense a semifinal defeat or something. I hope they play good fotball, unlike what they did in the 2006 tournament. As for Norway, I can't do anything but facing another failure. We won our last match, but it's not good enough. We only lost to Netherlands in this qualification but three draws against FYR Macedonia and Iceland feels like defeats. And even more frustrating is the fact that we probably just needed one more win... We claimed the 2nd spot, but we're currently the worst of all nine and only eight gets to play play-offs. I think we go through if Ireland lose to Italy and Montenegro with a total amount of three goals, which seems very unlikely to happen since Italy is already through and Montenegro... is Montenegro. But we don't deserve the spot anyway so. EDIT: Montenegro can NOT finish last either and Bulgaria can't beat both Cyprus and Georgia THEN we get a play-off spot

We'll loose ANOTHER Quarter, I think. People seem to be forgetting that teams like Italy, Spain, Brazil and most importantly, Portugal are in this competition. |

Well done England and Spain. Though I can't wait to play England in the World Cup, hopefully France will make it through I'm pretty sure - some of the other teams in 2nd spot are really poor, like Bosnia, Slovenia, Ireland. A real suprise for me is in Group 3, where Slovakia is about to qualify! Marius, I think Norway is in with a decent chance at play-off spot. Because they are in a group with less teams, the other groups' second place matches against the sixth place teams don't count. According to wiki, Sweden is actually the 9th place runner up:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_FIFA_World_Cup_Qualifying#Ranking_of_second-placed_teams Argentina is in real trouble after losing to Paraguay, they are currently a very close 5th place. And a crazy match in Asia, Saudi Arabia took the lead 2-1 in injury time but Bahrain equalised even later, to win on away goals! Now they face New Zealand
