6th Training Session We went to field first and I was doing really well, I took a diving catch and sorted out my throwing. Went into the nets, I thought I HAD to block, so I blocked every ball that was straight, just left the rest. But my coach was like "That should have been hit" and then I said "I thought I had to bat?" and then he was like "No? Just play your normal game" So I started hitting a few and middled them all. The coach's son was bowling amazing, straight, full, and with pace every time, but he only beat me once  The I had a bowl and I was bowling into the right hander as I normally do, the coach was asking why I did it and I said my old coach said if I bowled into the right hander I'd have a better chance of getting LBW's. Kingsley (My Coach) told me that with my height, I would cause trouble if I could get it to do it like Ryan Sidebottom, and if I was bowling I could swing it back in, which would cause even more problems. So he told us that we'd have a match against Kerry yesterday, on Sunday, but it was raining Tuesday, and it was dull Wednesday so he called it off. The annoying thing was that it turned out to be a beautiful day, as is today. So he told us that it would be played 2moro instead. Fingers crossed that it will be dry

Ok, I'll try and do as best I can this season updating. First training session of the season tonight. They'll be selling some stuff as well so I'll probably pick up a few things |

Session 1 Just some nets and catching practice. A few new faces were to be seen dotted around the ground, it was actually the third training session but due to the City games I wasn't able to go. Catching wasn't easy, it took a while for my hands to toughen up but I took a one-handed catch jumping backwards, always good! Got into bat and was god awful at the start, once the cobwebs were dusted off I was fine, still having major trouble picking spin though. My bowling was fairly run of the mill, a few swings and misses. Good to be back though, and games lay ahead!! |

Sounds good, I'm surprised you guys do so much at practice. Our club, who have 3 mens and 2 womens teams in the Leinster leagues just do net practice the whole time I think they just expect everyone to be good fielders! I'm surprised there is not a league down your part of the country, in Leinster and Ulster cricket is pretty big, with about 10 divisions of 8 teams in Leinster and the top division containing pro contracted players, so not all bad but as you can imagine weather ruins it, for example our 1st and 3rd team games have been washed off this weekend

Well Munster Cricket isn't anywhere as near as prolific, we're the poor cousin of the other 3 provinces (As you can see in Interpro results) There is a league though, I'll be playing for the 3rd XI, they're actually playing today but as I missed out a few sessions I'll have to sit out the game, not a problem though. I don't think I'd feel comfortable playing so soon into a season, just make a balls of it |

Match: Got called up this morning to play a match for the 3rd's against Cork County. I wasn't supposed to be playing but a guy dropped out so they asked me to play because I had finished my exams. I arrived and two overs had gone, I replaced this guy at 11 but I wasn't needed as we ended 300-4 off our 40 overs. Into the bar for tea and to watch the end of the Lions test before we came back out. Our bowlers then ripped shreads into them. one of the openers took 3 wickets and after a couple of on and off rain breaks an Australian guy on our team took 4 wickets in an over. And old spinner took 2 in a row and I finished off the innings, a runout cut my over to 3 balls from which no scores were taken. So it's half a wicket maiden. Right, so I think it's time I revive this (Albeit with a new name!) So this summer it's Cricket and a new addition in Aussie Rules to keep my interest over the summer. My first update will be over the week, with fixtures in both announced! |
