From reading the posts here (X, I'm looking at you), many of us indulge in mediocre films. This is not because we have lousy tastes, but rather, many of us have never really seen good films before. So I've decided to compile a list of films to watch and post links to watch them online (so no excuses really). I will not have watched all the films, rather many of them will be recommendations from snotty film elitist sites, thus this can be a journey for all of us.

Anyone up for it? I'll post a film once a fortnight or month with a link to watch and then we can discuss it or comment or post snide remarks and **** all over the film's merits.

Films that I'm thinking of at the moment:

Citizen Kane (Orson Welles)
Rashomon (Kurosawa)
Eraserhead (David Lynch)
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari (Robert Wiene)
Metropolis (Fritz Lang)
The Third Man (Carol Reed)
Sunset Boulevard (Wilder)
Strangers on a Train (Hitchcock)
Vertigo (Hitchcock)

And lots more...

So if you're interested or find this idea feasible, post here. Don't have to watch anything yet, I'll come up with a detailed post for a single film to watch each 2-4 weeks (so that it's not so taxing on my part).

Activity: Viewing and discussion of movie
Time needed: 1-2 hours for viewing; >1 minute for discussion per 2-4 weeks

Metropolis (Fritz Lang)

Sounds good, but Metropolis? :| Isn't that the film made during the 1920s that's black and white and has no sound? That is the worst film made ever. I saw some of it in History once.

Watch it and you'll fall asleep.

The idealogy was breakthrough and it definitely isn't a bad film by any means but I suppose it could be boring if you don't really care about the message its trying to put across. It was shot during the Weimar period so I would infer that that's why you had to sit through it.

Yeah, The Godfather is also a very good film, part 2 especially.

The Dark Knight is probably the best blockbuster to have come out of Hollywood for awhile, however, films like No Country for Old Men and There Will Be Blood are equally good but were less promoted.

Metropolis was terrible, I've seen it at least twice, yeah I understand, and to a certain extent appreciate, the merit of it's meaning but it's sooo boring. We had to study it and it just reminds me of school when I hear of it.

Well, looks like I'm the only person here to have ever wanted to watch Metropolis.
