The third match I went to was Getafe v Deportivo, on 4th January. Unfortunately I forgot to take my camera to this match so I don't have any pictures of it, which is really disappointing. Deportivo won 2-1 in any case, with another penalty winner. The match was still really good to attend, going to see Getafe was one of my goals. A small crowd of about 9000 I think, but passionate enough. I stood with the so-called Ultras down one end.

But the day before I ventured down to Getafe to see the team train. While I was there I got to meet lots of players, the president, the coach..it was really great. They're only a small club and anyone can go and watch them train and talk to the players after. Particularly the club president, who was just walking down the street, was very shocked to see me from Australia. I managed to get some free shirts, scarves and other merchandise from the fans and a free ticket to the match the next day.

Wow, you must have had a really good time in Europe! Going to games in England, Germany and Spain - pure amazing!

The atmosphere in Germany is indeed very good - better than England anyway. Not that I've been in any of those countries, but in England you aren't allowed to stand at all and you can hardly move your lips anyway. Plastic fans in England compared to Germany. Was the crowd filled up in Berlin as well? Says a little if Hertha sounds louder than the red army in Manchester that you went to.

You saw Fulham as well, eh? How did Hangeland play? :|

EDIT: So cool that you got presents from Getafe too! Must have been a special moment that.

The final match I saw was Man Utd v Derby County. This was really great for me, first of all it was on my birthday (20 January) and secondly because obviously I support Man Utd, but also have a soft spot for Derby. The match was the League Cup semi-final and I was really happy when the draw came out, i knew i had to get tickets. Usually no one but season ticket holders can go see Man Utd, but because it was the League Cup tickets were on general sale. Derby won the first leg 1-0 which was really amazing, I was Derby just after the first leg and the place was really buzzing. It made the second leg all the more exciting. Tickets were 40 pounds thereabouts but well worth it, right up there with Hertha-Gala in terms of atmosphere.

9000 Derby fans filled a lot of that back stand (That's more than Chelsea brought and Inter Milan will bring put together). They were really great, you could hear them all night as they never stopped singing despite losing and made the atmosphere ever better.

Who else but...

Ronaldo again, taking a penalty.

The Final score, what a match! Though Man Utd led 3-0 at half time and it looked like being a whitewash, Derby came back at the end and could have stolen it. So Man Utd make the League Cup final this Sunday 4-3 on aggr.

i think it is true what you are saying about Germany/England atmosphere. In Berlin i stood the whole time, and i think nothing compares to that atmosphere. The funny thing was that the Olympiastadion wasn't quite full, 62000/76000. but I do think a lot of what made that match so great was because the crowd was 50/50. But Old trafford was really really great nonetheless. I think it's got the best atmosphere in England, from what I've heard. The Man Utd fans had some great songs, very simple, for example, one side of the stadium sung 'champions of england', then the other side sung 'champions of europe'. At one stage during the second half this chant went for about 15 minutes. Great stuff. It was full, over 74 000, 9000 Derby fans as well, sometimes you could hear several different chants going in different parts of the stadium.

As soon as I got into the stadium, the players came out to warm up...

Posted Image
...as did the referee and his assistants (from Luxembourg)

Posted Image
It then started to downpour during the national anthems, which were belted out across the stadium.

Posted Image
During the national anthem...

...and on the other side too. Ah.

The game has started

In the end, England won 4-0.

It wasn't a match but it was a big sporting event - the London Marathon.

Ah, I know this isn't for it, but, I'm going to a baseball game on August 9th. I'll take pics then, and show them here. I've got really good seats, so my pics will be clear.
