Walter Smith is an idiot for playing one up front at home to Unirea The most surprising result has to be Rubin Kazan. Rangers' embarrassment was just funny. |

Russian and Ukrainian football is very very good atm. The Russian league is full of quality from before, we have seen Zenit and CSKA win the UEFA-cup and other decent results. Now Rubin beating Barca away from home! They even got an early lead, which I find very impressive. It's not easy to defend a lead at Camp Nou and when Ibra made it 1-1, they went 2-1 up just a few mins later! Tight group, but like hugh I think Barca and Inter will go through... obviously. As for Liverpool, this reminds me of their start back in 2007. They lost to Marseille and Besiktas but came back and scored like 16 goals in the last three games! This group is stronger though and they have a tough trip to the Gerlande coming up and a trip to Hungary. Debrecen scored 3 last night and lost only 1-0 at Anfield. Don't count them out, they can grab some points. Can Viola and Lyon actually eliminate Liverpool? Interesting match-up tonight between CSKA and Man U. Norwegian TV says it starts at 8, but I thought it will be played earlier? Good luck to Chris as well, going to Chelsea-Atletico. 1-2

Well said. Maybe we shouldn't be that surprised about Rubin, but it was at the Nou Camp so it's still very surprising. As I type, they're actually showing the goals and talking about Rubin Kazan on TV CSKA Moscow-United is at 6.30pm for you The day is finally here - Chelsea v Atletico Madrid! Can't believe my last football match was in the earlier rounds - Stabaek v FC Copenhagen! This is the last game of Drogba's suspension after his outburst at the end of last season's Barcelona match. Bosingwa would have been back today but got injured against Aston Villa. Atletico, with Aguero, Forlan, Simao and Maxi Rodriquez etc, have been in bad form recently. They lost 3-0 at the weekend to Osasuna. They drew 0-0 in Matchday 1 against APOEL and lost to Porto.Chelsea have never met Atletico in a competitive match before either. If Chelsea win, they only need two points from the remaining three games to qualify apparently. Asenjo will be back for Atletico (the talented goalkeeper) so they have many stars. Hopefully they don't rediscover their form tonight The focus will be on Chelsea's defending at set pieces too. Don't embarrass us again. Match starts at 7.45pm BST as you know and I'll be in the Shed end - next to the away fans I think. Can't wait. |

Good win from Chelsea - 4-0 The defence has improved after the Villa debacle. Kalou was poor at the start, missing an open goal and a few chances, but he then scored two goals - one a header - to help crack Atletico. Lampard's good finish was the third goal before Perea scored an own goal. Lampard seems out of position on the right of the diamond. He needs to be the attacking midfielder of the four - Deco just doesn't seem that good. Essien's great in the defensive midfield position with his range of passing. Ballack's meh. I was glad to see Zhirkov come on as a substitute, although at the start he was following Ashley Cole so it seemed like we had two left-backs on the pitch Cole then went off, but Zhirkov didn't have much of the ball or time to show his qualities. Same for Sturridge who came on. He hasn't featured much this season, which is a shame - glad he got some playing time tonight though. I wanted to see Joe Cole come on but Ancelotti thought otherwise. Can't wait to have Drogba and Bosingwa back. If it was Drogba up there with Anelka tonight then it would have been more than 4-0, seriously. The Chelsea fans were quite quiet too, as everyone knows, but the guy sitting next to me kept starting the chants so there was some singing - then it dies out after a minute Nothing like RBK's fans. Atletico's fans started off well but then they died down. On the way out I was standing next to Pedro Pinto He was on his phone so I couldn't ask for a picture or anything. If you don't know who he is, wiki him I'm surprised to hear Real Madrid lost 3-2 at home to AC Milan too! AC have been poor this season so this was shocking. I didn't expect Bordeaux to beat Bayern either but that's not really a shock. Congrats to Hugh for predicting the Chelsea match correctly also

Real Madrid were leading as well - that first goal was a gift by Dida, horrible Marseille beat Zurich, 1-0 Heinze does it again Justin.tv was being gay though, there weren't any good channels to get the game on so I stuck with L'EQUIPE's radio in the second half. Zurich came close a few times I heard

I've only seen highlights at the moment, but a good win by Man Utd, that group is pretty much wrapped up. Dida Sounded like a great game though, I am suprised Milan won but it's still an open group. Marseille definitely in with a chance yet.Group A looks really close though. Bordeax leading the group

German football is awful atm. Two days, three games, one point. They used to be a lot better. A good French week, though! Atletico were unlucky I saw, they had some chances before the goals. But Chelsea's attacking were class and their strikers was so close being offside all the time, well timed. All good goals, except for the 4th, even though that was a nice crosser ![]() Real-Milan was amazing, nothing less. |

Marseille will be hosting Zurich at the Velodrome tomorrow (20h45), here's the group:
I'm feeling confident about this match despite our 1-1 draw over the weekend against Toulouse. We've got a full squad as well despite Lucho, Bonnart (suspended), Rool, and Rodriguez missing out. Cheyrou and Cisse are back - although Cisse will be on the bench surely ![]() ALLEZ L'OM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |
