Here's the last of my previews and it's the team that will be live on TV for us in the UK tomorrow :tsk:

Debrecen

Posted Image

Group Stage opponents: Liverpool, Lyon and Fiorentina.
Who did they beat to get here? Kalmar (Sweden), Levadia Tallinn (Estonia), Levski Sofia (Bulgaria).
Website: Here (English)
Wikipedia page: Here

uefa.com

Who are they?
Formed: 1902
Nickname: Loki
League titles: 4
Hungarian Cups: 3

Established in 1902, Debrecen took 90 years to make their mark and start the process of dismantling the Budapest-based domination of Hungarian football. Ferencvárosi TC, MTK Budapest, Budapest Honvéd and Újpest FC had enjoyed a virtual monopoly on the country's silverware for much of the 20th century. Provincial Debrecen, in contrast, only reached the top flight in 1993. The club's former player and legendary coach Lajos Garamvölgyi, who died earlier this year, masterminded their first major triumph in 1999 when they won the Hungarian Cup. They have lifted it twice more since, yet it was Debrecen's maiden domestic title in 2005 that really put them on the map. They matched that feat in three of the following four campaigns – their supremacy punctuated only by MTK's victory in 2008 – and now find themselves at Europe's top table in a group containing five-time European champions Liverpool FC.

One to watch
Gergely Rudolf, 24, striker
Quick off the mark and possessing mesmeric dribbling skills, the gifted forward was the only player from Hungary's 1. Liga called up by national coach Erwin Koeman for the recent round of fixtures. Though born in Hungary, Rudolf spent the early years of his career at France's AS Nancy-Lorraine before returning home in 2007. He has since shown himself to be an elusive and predatory attacker who scored in Debrecen's 2-0 home win in the UEFA Champions League play-off second leg against PFC Levski Sofia.

Memorable match

HNK Hajduk Split 0-5 Debreceni VSC, UEFA Champions League second qualifying round, 3 August 2005
The Hungarian champions had established a 3-0 lead to take to Croatia and were expected to face a backlash from their opponents in the return. However, Debrecen made sure the anticipated comeback never materialised by steamrollering Hajduk in the first half before adding two more goals after half-time to win 8-0 on aggregate. Debrecen, though, were stopped in their tracks in the third qualifying round where they suffered a 6-0 aggregate defeat by Manchester United FC.

Greatest player
Tamás Sándor
A creative midfielder with consummate vision, Sándor was a member of all four of Debrecen's title-winning sides during his second stint at the club and earned eleven caps for the Hungarian national team. Despite various spells abroad with the likes of Torino FC and Beitar Jerusalem FC, it was, fittingly, with Debrecen that he retired from professional football in December 2008.

Did you know?
The team gained their moniker of 'Loki' in 1955 when the club were renamed Debreceni Lokomotív to bring them in line with other sides during the communist era.

Chances of qualifying:  They have three great sides to play in this group so they won't qualify. Liverpool should top the group with Lyon and Fiorentina fighting for second place. Lyon and Fiorentina might drop a few points in Hungary though, but I doubt it.

A few hours to go until it all starts so remember to sign up for our uefa.com Fantasy League here! :point:

Almunia was in my uefa.com team but I've replaced him with Buffon so it's alright

Great to see Arsenal with an inexperienced 'keeper. Hopefully Liege will target him B)

Chelsea, missing Bosingwa and Drogba through suspension, have named an expected team. It's the substitutes which catch the eye: No Hilario so Turnbull is the backup goalkeeper (if you saw him against Aston Villa reserves, you'd know he's crap :| ), Joe Cole is back from a long injury (didn't expect him back today), and 3 youngsters are on the bench: Hutchinson, Bruma and Borini :eek2: Must be injuries and UEFA's new homegrown/youth player rule doing this.

Just noticed that Ovrebo is refereeing the Juventus-Bordeaux game. As long as he stays in Italy and not in London... :neuwine:

Marseille line-up:

Quote:

OM
Titulaires :

MANDANDA
HEINZE
TAIWO
DIAWARA
KABORE
CISSE
MBIA
CHEYROU
GONZALEZ
NIANG
BRANDAO

Remplaçants :
ANDRADE
HILTON
BOCALY
VALBUENA
ABRIEL
BEN ARFA
MORIENTES

According to OM.NET, it looks like they'll be going for the same diamond they used against Le Mans, except now its Kabore in for Bonnart (YES :point: ):

Niang - Brandao

Lucho

Cheyrou ------------------ Cisse

M'bia

Taiwo - Heinze - Diawara - Kabore

Mandanda

Cisse's in, fuck. I would've preferred Ben Arfa over his ass (only reason why Ben Arfa is on the bench is because he hasn't been great recently, it's all about his mentality really). Oh man, I can't wait, the preview is on tv already :notworthy:

H/T and Milan are leading, really frustrating. Taiwo should've been marking Inzaghi on that, instead he drifted away. I noticed that a few times in the half, he wanders off too much :wall: Kabore's been great for the most part down the right side. We need to hit the target more often though, most of our shots have gone over the bar. I'd say our best opportunity was that volley from Cheyrou just before the end of the half. We must continue to attack more in the second half, now that we're down, we've got nothing to lose. We were alright, but like I said, we need to test the keeper a lot more.

2-1 :wall: :wall: :wall:

Taiwo was, without a doubt, horrible tonight. At fault for both of Inzaghi's goals, you'd think he would've learned his lesson after the first! Idiot  We were better in the second half, Heinze even found the net. A draw would've been nice, fuck.

I heard that Marseille were dominating most of the second half, so unlucky there!

Chelsea beat Porto 1-0 earlier with a goal from Anelka. Wasn't a good performance from what I could hear on the radio, and the heavy rain didn't help either. Some lights even went out at the Bridge too :|

It rained heavily at the Velodrome too.

Looking back at the replay (on the second goal), Heinze should've been marking him - Taiwo was right behind him that's why I thought it was his fault, but still, we could've avoided that. Frustrating stuff really.

The other match in your group looked great :eek2: Real Madrid were 3-0 up but then Zurich scored 2! :eek2: The 3-3 goal didn't happen though as Madrid scored two more to win 5-2. Two free-kick goals from Ronaldo I think.

APOEL did well to get a point against Atletico Madrid! A surprise result that, and it gives Chelsea a two point lead already :neushades:

Wolfsburg beat CSKA Moscow 3-1 with Grafite getting a hat-trick! What a performance from him, I wish I had him on my uefa.com team now :|
