two trophies, many runner-ups.

Interesting draw. Seems like the UEFA Cup really has some good quality this season, unlike the CL. Group E looks hard, as does Group I. Group L also. Best matchup could be Villarreal-Lazio

Benfica sucks but our defense sucks as well so I don't think we'll be able to defend against the likes of Saviola.
Everton is getting owned at PL but we'll lose to them too I think.
So it's Everton and either us or Benfica, if we manage not to lose any points to BATE.

Easier draw for Panathinaikos who will probably finish 2nd behind Galatasaray.

I agree with Hugh Europa League is great stuff this year and a must watch imo.

The Europa League takes centre stage tonight with the opening matches of the group stage.

There are quite a few fixtures taking place tonight - see them here. The main ones that will interest TC2ers are:

Lille v Valencia
Genoa v Slavia Prague
Hapoel Tel Aviv v Celtic
Rapid Vienna v Hamburg
Hertha Berlin v FK Ventspils
Heereveen v Sporting Lisbon
CSKA Sofia v Fulham
Basel v Roma
Panathinaikos v Galatasaray
Lazio v Red Bull Salzburg
Everton v AEK Athens
Partizan Belgrade v Toulouse
Cluj v FC Copenhagen
Nacional v Werder Bremen

Everton v AEK Athens is on TV for us. A shame they're not showing Celtic.

I actually agree with it all :o

This will be the first time most of us will see the additional referees on the goal lines too. Should be interesting to see how they do - but we probably won't get any 'was it over the line or not?' decisions for ages

Must say it's weird to see group L and K etc

And in addition I wanna say that group K is the group of death.

Oh for god sake, Celtic were leading 0-1 - away from home I must add - and have conceded 2  Ridiculous. With Hamburg losing 3-0, this would have been a perfect time to get 3 points.

I hate Hapoel. First they knocked Chelsea out a few years ago, now Celtic. Just get relegated or something.

The most shocking result isn't mentioned though:

Hertha Berlin 1-1 Ventspils!

That is quite shocking, but Hertha aren't doing that well in the Bundesliga at the moment. 17th (out of 18) with 3 points.

Just been watching Everton 4 AEK Athens 0. Sorry Babis, but AEK suck  Saha got sent-off at the end but hardly touched Juanfran and he then dives backwards
