Australia just scored against Ghana. A win here could really put them back into this group! Ghana winning last game, and Australia with a draw, and Germany are out.

I missed the first half, but my father told me Kewell got a very rough red card after handsing on the line. I feel so sorry for Australia I hope they win now, although I would love to see Ghana and Annan through.

1-1 draw Full Time. Great match IMO. Both teams attacked even towards the end, made for a decent spectacle.

A good match indeed! That penalty was debatable - originally I thought it was ball-to-hand (well, arm) but in another replay it looked like he kind of put his arm in the way to block it. Kewell certainly didn't like the red card! What a mistake for Australia's goal though - the ball strikes again

The Netherlands-Japan match (1-0) was boring though.

The penalty was never debatable, it was simply another referee scandal in this World Cup. This match sums up this tournament well: A keeper mistake, a horrible referee and a red card. Some red cards have been correct, but this... Tbh, even though I supported Ghana, I wanted to kill myself when Kewell was sent off. It was so unfair that I hugh must be crying now.

Is it a penalty? Maybe. You can't blame the referee for giving away penalties inside the box. To defend the ref, the hands rule is very hard. There are so many factors... Did it hit the arm? Did he hands on purpose? Did he take away a chance for a goal?

Kewell, didn't hands on purpose, but he did avoid a goal for Ghana so... However, I don't think it's a penalty cos on the replay you can see him keeping his hands to his body. How differently could he react from a shot from 7 meters?

Giving a penalty there... I disagree, but that's it. A hard situation.

Red card, though? What the hell. You can't send a player off for standing on the line. The rules says that if you avoid a goal with your hand, it's a red card. He did save it with his hand, but come on. What else could he do? He didn't even take his arm out on a reflex? Was he supposed to cut off his arm then? I hate situations that gives penalty and red card anyway. It's just too rough.

Penalty - maybe.
Red card - if you're blind, crazy and stupid.

I feel sorry for Australia, getting judged out of the World Cup.

2006 v Italy. Cahill v Germany. Kewell v Ghana. Australia must feel the world is against them. :|

Good game between Cameroon and Denmark (1-2)! Cameroon are out!

Previews:

Slovakia v Paraguay
Bloemfontein, 12.30pm UK time, 1.30pm SA time

Spoiler: click to toggle

It doesn't seem like an interesting match on paper but it could be key for deciding who will go through with Italy. I'm predicting Paraguay to win.

Italy v New Zealand
Nelspruit, 3pm UK time, 4pm SA time

Spoiler: click to toggle

No offence to New Zealand but if Italy don't win this...

Brazil v Cote d'Ivoire
Soccer City, 7.30pm UK time, 8.30pm SA time

Spoiler: click to toggle

Looking forward to this match! I'll go for the safe bet and predict Brazil for this one.

By the way, guys, see Global World Sport for some of our special World Cup reports.

If Brazil are in any way out of form, the Ivory Coast could make it difficult for them.

I think Slovakia v Paraguay will be more interesting than the other 2 due to importance and eveness etc :)

Also, I don't get how this is supposed to be an Africa's World Cup. If it gets played in Europe in the distant future, we won't be saying its Europe's World Cup.

Oh and....

I've really got nothing more to say after Marius' excellent analysis. it should NOT be a red card, simple as that. it just ruins the game, as it is almost impossible to win with 10 men.

Australia actually played really well with 10 men and for that I'm proud. We had the best chance of the match (Wilkshire :wall: ), and I have no doubt with 11 men we would have won. Unfortunately Ghana, who are actually quite a poor team, look like getting through without scoring a goal from open play. Very tough for Australia to advance now but there is some chance.

how harsh it has been, like Admin said. oh such is football...
