Damn, I was cheering South Africa on there! At 2-0 I thought they could do the fairytale story but France ruined it at the end :snooty: It's a shame to see the hosts going out in the group stage. I'll miss their singing in the tunnel and the atmosphere around the team when they play.

Domenech refused to shake Parreira's hand at the end. Pathetic. The French will be happy to see the end of him. France will return under Blanc. Evra, the captain, dropped and other players not included in the starting XI. France ruined it for themselves. The Republic of Ireland could have done better than them in that group.

Didn't see the Uruguay-Mexico game as I was concentrating too much on France-South Africa, but it was 1-0 to Uruguay. Uruguay top the group with Mexico second. Mexico likely to face Argentina in the second round then. South Korea, Nigeria or Greece, who wants to play Uruguay then?

I couldn't lip read, I don't know :|coffee Maybe it was about the red card for Gourcuff, which I don't think was a red card at all.

Well maybe the commentator would have said something or you may have read a report.

And yeah I agree, shouldn't have been a red card.

I wasn't mad or anything :eek2: :|

Anyway, BBC says: "News just coming in that Raymond Domenech refused to shake South Africa manager Carlos Alberto Parreira's hand because the Brazilian said France did not deserve to be at the World Cup. More drama than a Shakespearean thespians' convention. More on this soon."

Oh dear. Bye Raymond.

Greece 0 Argentina 2
Nigeria 2 South Korea 2

Boring, boring Greece. Even though they had to win, Greece kept playing boring, defensive football. Surely they knew the results from the other game as it was happening? The only time Greece seemed to attack was when the game was over. The defensive approach worked in Euro 2004 but not now. How do you feel about Greece not going for the win in a crucial game, Babis? I know they were facing Argentina and they are a massive threat and big favourites but surely they should have shown some ambition. You're at the World Cup, go for it! I'm glad Greece are out to be honest. Argentina finally got through the defence late on though. I hear Nuno was at the game too! Great to have one of us at the World Cup

Nigeria-South Korea seemed like a good match! I had the game on the laptop - perhaps I should have had that on the TV instead! We saw the first free-kick goal from South Korea, finally! Did anyone see the miss of the World Cup, or perhaps the worst miss in the history of the World Cup? Yakubu was standing in the middle of the goal and about a metre out... and put it wide  If he got that and they won 3-2 then they could have gone through I think...

Nigeria are out then. A shame to see another African team to go out.

Uruguay v South Korea and Argentina v Mexico are the second round matchups to come then.

^^ Agreed. Although I can see the appeal of sitting back and defending. See if you can keep it at 0-0, and get a winner in the last 10 minutes or so... But, beaten way before that.

Alle, come back! :|coffee

The big day for many of us tomorrow then. Group C and D ends tomorrow and you know what that means. England are in action and they must beat Slovenia. Can we do it? Personally I think we can. I don't care if it's a scrappy performance - as long as we get a 1-0 win then it's ok. They are under so much pressure now. Imagine if we follow France out! I knew it wasn't an easy group but I still can't believe we're in this situation.

USA play Algeria in the other match in Group C. Thoughts, ZZ? I'm predicting a USA win here.

Group D comes to a close with Ghana v Germany and Serbia v Australia. Ghana have 4 points, Germany and Serbia have 3 while Australia have 1. It's so close! Hugh, give us your thoughts here! I'm predicting close Germany and Serbia wins, although I think the games can go any way! I love this group

Come on England, top the group and play Australia in the next round. Please!

Finally, check out Global World Sport and our World Cup section there. Some of us have written reports there and we'd appreciate it if you read them, if you haven't done so already!

I have no hope v USA. They looked lethal 2nd half v Slovenia. Also we need goals v USA and we've scored 1 in our last 6 games so I can't see it happening. At least we bow out with at least a point. :)

Now imagine if England AND Germany crash out here? What does that say about the state of European football?

Says that it's awful! No South American teams have lost yet!

First thoughts on last nights matches. France, you are a disgrace to the World Cup and Domenech is an absolute asshole. I feel so much worse no for Ireland because they would have actually done something here, unlike the cheating frogs. Good riddance! Well done South Africa for a spirited performance, but a shame thye couldn't got through. it was always going to be a tough group.

Argentina and Korea through...meh. Should have expected them in any case.

Tonight's matches will be epic though. Group C is very interesting. I'm predicting USA and England to go through but they should be good matches. I'll laugh if England get knocked out  But I still want that second round match up Admin!

Group D...I have slim hope that Australia will progress but it's so unlikely. We can beat Serbia but Ghana needs to beat Germany, or a big win for Germany (which could happen)! Serbia and Germany will probably progress.
