Ghana 0 Germany 1 Australia 2 Serbia 1 Germany v England in the next round then, what a clash that will be!  So much history and rivalry and we're meeting already. Can't wait.One of these teams will be guaranteed a place in the semi-finals: Uruguay, South Korea, USA or Ghana. A shame England couldn't win then group then  Australia-Serbia seemed like a great match. Again, I was watching it on my laptop - perhaps should have switched it onto the TV. Australia were 2-0 up and needed two more goals in their favour - can't believe I was cheering them on!  Hugh must be gutted in that Fan Fest after being so close to qualifying.We know the first half of the second round matches now then: Uruguay v South Korea USA v Ghana Germany v England Argentina v Mexico

  I'm disappointed but also very proud. We did eveything we could. 4 points usualy gets you through but it wasn't enough this time. We played great against Ghana and now against Serbia - Holman's goal was epic. There was some hope then but Germany and Ghana looked like they switched off at 1-0 because that result was good for both of them. What is annoying is that Ghana, clearly the worst team in the group, scored two penalties all tournament and now they are through - it doesn't seem fair. It's rough that we got some bad refereeing calls the last two games but thankfully this match was free of controversy. The German game killed us in the end. One side of the draw really opens up now, as Admin said. I reckon USA will trash Ghana and play Uruguay for a spot in the semis! England-Germany should be good but my tip is Germany, then they should play Argentina! Edited by hugh, Jun 24 2010, 06:17 AM.

Yesterday left Slovenia, Algeria, Australia and Serbia out then. Pretty sure that all teams in group D would have advanced from group C. A shame that teams that scores two goals in the groupstage goes through... For the tournament it's great that Ghana advanced to make sure at least one African team is in the knockoutstage, but I share the tears with hugh and the Socceroos (or how you spell it ). Simply knocked out by the men in black this year. You have all reasons to be proud. And I hear many, not here though, feels sorry for Slovenia. How? Lucky in their first two games and USA were just so much better than Algeria all the way through. Slovenia never deserved the spot. The world goes on, lads and the world cup rolls on. Group E and F to be completed today. Denmark or Japan to follow the Netherlands through. Paraguay should beat NZ and make sure that Italy will have to play Netherlands. Slovakia can still leave Italy behind though... |

Yeh I know. Saadane was always going to leave anyways as he's old now and managed Algeria 5 times now. Phillippe Troussier seems to be interested in the job. Oh and that latter link is meh. 35 and cranky I suppose, heard he had a problem with that journalist.

Unlucky, Hugh. You're right about Ghana, two penalties and they got through - shame. Australia did well and weren't helped by some refereeing decisions. The 4-0 loss ruined your chances and the red cards made it even worse. Shame. But yes, at least there is an African team in the next round. Not sure who will get to the semi-finals out of Uruguay, South Korea, USA or Ghana actually! Will be interesting to see the outcome of that. Can't see Italy losing to Slovakia. Italy have been quiet so far but they should wake up like England did yesterday. Paraguay to beat New Zealand and top the group. Come on New Zealand though! Netherlands v Cameroon - the Netherlands are already through and Cameroon are out. I'm looking more at Denmark v Japan really - the battle for second place. Denmark to win surely. Japan seem so poor, they only won because Cameroon were even worse that day! That wouldn't happen normally. Denmark to go through in second place. |

Denmark is so overrated! Japan to go through tonight! Denmark were lucky against Cameroon and Bendtner is out. Party in Tokyo tonight. AND BRATISLAVA! Goood, Slovakia does well! The ref needs to put his foot down soon, cos the Italians are ruining the game atm. I bet Italy will get a  soon.
