After seeing Australia boringly winning every cricket world cup, I hate seeing the same teams winning all the time. So I couldn't be happier that both 2006 finalists are out at the group stage. I just hope Brazil doesn't win it.

Doubt they will continue doing it.

Finally, Denmark out. Can't believe people thought they'd advance. What an overrated team! Japan totally owned them! Paraguay - Japan will be a good game :neushades:

Round of 16:

Q1:
Netherlands - Slovakia
TBA (G runner up) - TBA (H winner)

Q2:
Uruguay - South Korea
USA - Ghana

Simply the outsider quarterfinal!

Q3:
Germany - England
Argentina - Mexico

Two classics! Argentina might beat Mexico in the round of 16 and then play Germany, just like last time

Q4:
Paraguay - Japan
TBA (G winner) - TBA (H runner-up)

I think Paraguay will take the 3rd place  Brazil to lose to Spain, who will lose to Paraguay :thumb: Who then will lose in the semis and beat Uruguay.

Looks like you were right :neutie:

I missed the first half but Japan played very well from what I saw. Two stunning free-kicks! Honda is an amazing player.

Netherlands and Japan through from Group F then. Paraguay and Slovakia ( :eek2: ) from Group E. Slovakia's first World Cup and they're through to the Second Round - great stuff.

Portugal v Brazil and the end of Group H tomorrow! :neushades:

Slovakia 3 Italy 2 - best game of the tournament so far?

Who would have expected Slovakia to win that, seriously. They drew to New Zealand and were poor against Paraguay. OK, Italy have been poor for a while now too, but they were expected to win this!

De Rossi's pass which set up Vittek for the opener  Great thinking like you say for Kupenek's goal, Marius! Quagliarella's goal was stunning.

What a disaster for Italy though. World champions in 2006 with many of the same players in the 2010 team. I guess having won the 2006 tournament, they didn't have the heart for this one. The players are too old - you can see that especially with Cannavaro now. Lippi will leave now with Prandelli coming in and maybe we'll see a new Italian team without the likes of Pirlo, Gattuso and definitely Cannavaro, who is retiring. World champions to a group stage exit - I think that's only the fourth time it's happened in World Cup history?

As much as I like Italy, it's nice to see Slovakia (and New Zealand) do well in their first World Cup. Can't see them beating the Netherlands in the next round though.

EDIT: Just saw this...

Dunno. 3-0 win for Brazil, does open up a slim chance for The Ivory Coast.

BAHAHAHA ITALY   TAKE THAT! LAST PLACE, WHAT AN EMBARASSMENT!

Well done NZ. They had to score against Paraguay but they really never looked like it. Paraguay cruise through 1st. It's weird that Slovakia advanced, they've been so crap up until now.

Portugal v Brazil, North Korea v Cote d'Ivoire, Chile v Spain and Switzerland v Honduras today. Not even going to bother predicting these! Portugal v Brazil should be a great match but I can't predict a winner here. Normally I'd go for Brazil but anything can happen in rivalries like this. North Korea v Cote d'Ivoire - should be a win for the latter, surely? I expect Brazil and Portugal to go through, but in what order?

Could Spain be going out tonight? Chile have been good at this World Cup and won't be easy for Spain. Surely Spain won't go out. Switzerland should beat Honduras so Spain need a win! Exciting round we have today

Second round starts tomorrow. Already there's talk about England-Germany penalties - Terry's rumoured to take one if it comes to that...
