Great game, especially in the second half! Bye Brazil! :eek2:

Brazil dominated the first half. Their goal was so simple - straight through the middle. The Netherlands weren't helped by Ooijer having to come in shortly before the match started though and maybe there was a lack of communication in defence that left the hole. Robben exaggerated a bit for the free-kick when they scored I thought, but a nice ball in from Sneijder and an own goal from Melo to start the comeback. Nice header from Sneijder for the second goal. Melo pulled a Keita there for that red card. Great game and the Netherlands are in the semi-finals! :eek2:

Did anyone see that corner in the 34th minute where Robben kicked it slightly and ran away from it? If the Brazilians didn't notice then that could have been a great move

Dunga's going to be hated even more in the press now. He built a good side I thought but defending at set pieces cost them there. They were also a bit temperamental as you can see with Melo's red card. They totally dominated the first half until a crazy twenty minutes.

If you really were surprised to see Netherlands win, Chris, I have to ask where you have been the last years. This is not a surprise.

Throughout this World Cup I keep predicting the normal big teams to win, and I keep failing! :P Despite the fact Italy and France were poor before the World Cup, I still predicted them to top their groups. Brazil are normally the best side in the world on their day and that's why I predicted them to beat the Netherlands. I'm not predicting the next matches! Paraguay to beat Spain! :neulol:

Uruguay-Ghana was a decent match with two stunning goals! Suarez's with a handball on the line (he even got a point for a save in the fifa.com Fantasy Football thing  ) was ridiculous. I feel sorry for Gyan, he had the chance to win the game in those final seconds with the penalty but missed. He scored a good penalty in the shoot-out but Uruguay eventually won. Damn. Uruguay to play the Netherlands in the semi-final then - and no, I'm not predicting that!

This is an absolute disgrace. It is the most blatant act of cheating seen since Maradona's hand of god. Suarez should be banned for the rest of the tournament. It is 50x worse than Henry's handball, except now everything thinks Suarez is a 'hero'. It's a blight on football that Uruguay won that match. Suarez has cheated to win Uruguay the game. I feel so sorry for Ghana :(

Anyway. Netherlands-Brazil was a great game. Well done Netherlands for coming back so well, though Brazil did throw it away with terrible defending and some immature acting. I hope Netherlands now smashes Uruguay in the semis.

I saw that corner Chris, and even though it didn't work, you know where they got it from?

Wow, a lot of hatred towards Suarez. To be honest I didn't even think much of it at the time. I just thought "ah you idiot why would you put your hand there? you'll get sent off". But yeah it was cheating. Poor Ghana. Though I gotta admit I was one of the few in the world who wanted Uruguay to win. They've impressed me so far (apart from the handball of course :neulol: ). Would've been cool to see an African team get to the semis but I wasn't too bothered.

That corner is awesome. Tricked the defenders in that clip hugh posted, but it was too cunning even for the ass. referee

Although as far as corners go, this one is my favourite (albeit a little cruel)

Cheating indeed, although Ghana did have the chance to make him pay but Gyan missed. He'll be out of the semi-final though but I think deliberate handballs like that should be punished further. I hate the way he celebrated after the penalty was missed, idiot.

BBC says: "Fifa spokesman Pekka Odriozol has revealed the body will consider whether to hand Luis Suarez a one or a two-match ban for his handball last night. The Ajax frontman reasoned after the match: "This was the end of the World Cup. I had no choice," while Uruguay coach Oscar Tabarez said: "Saying we cheated Ghana is too harsh a word to use. Yes Luis stuck his hand out but it's not cheating. I don't think it's fair to say that."

Some other guy who sent a text to the BBC live text thing said: "Luis Suarez - hero. He knew if the ball went in he was out so he gave his team a second chance. Incredible quick thinking and Ghana still had the chance to win it but didn't take that chance that's not suarez fault he did what he had to do for his nation. HERO." Hmm.

I guess he did the wrong thing for football but the right thing for his team.

Hugh, the free kick routine there is a good idea (and yes, I saw the video :| ). Chelsea fell asleep there but the Brazilians didn't yesterday.

Suarez is nothing but a hero.

Henry cheated, he handsed to assist a goal, thats not legal.
Suarez didn't cheat, he handsed to stop a ball, Ghana got their penalty and he was sent off. Fair. I'm still gutted Ghana couldn't go through, that would have made this World Cup even better.

Allright, Suarez had to options (although, he didn't really got much time to think what to do! :! )

A: Let the shot go in and see Uruguay get knocked out.

B: Stop the ball, get a red and hope for Ghana to miss the penalty. They did, and Uruguay has the chance to go to a final now.

What side are you on? ;)

See the thing I don't understand is that everyone seems to think it happened in slow motion. As Marius pointed out, he wouldn't have had a lot of time to think about it. When a shot is fired in, you're not gonna be weighing up your options, you're gonna do a reflex action. Keyword reflex. There's no way he had time to think: "ooh shit, I better put my hands in front of this otherwise we're out". He probably did it, and then thought: "uh oh, I may have fucked everything up here".
