New Zealand becomes the only unbeaten country in the 2010 WCs. Switzerland, who couldn't beat Honduras, beat Spain

Congratulations Spain, well deserved! I was rooting for the Dutch, though, but the best team won. Symphatic gesture from Inisiesta as well! Respect.

Why was it that bad? He used common sense for the most part and brandished cards when they were deserved. Netherlands were playing rough, they should have got a red for De Jong's challenge in the first half but eventually got one through Heitinga.

Spain deserved it though, at least from the second half onwards. I thought Netherlands played really well the first half and Spain couldn't get into their rhythm. But once they did, they were clearly better. Robben will be ruing his missed one-on-one though. It really was a game of missed opportunities, but there was such tenseness around the whole match and it made it a great spectacle. Congratulations Spain!

So Forlan gets Golden Ball, Mueller Golden Boot and Young player. Probably all deserved.

But I still can't work out if this was a really great World Cup or not. It did eventually get better but some of the football played was terrible, the ball was a disaster (meaning less good goals), the empty stadiums and their incessant vuvuzelas, terrible refeering and the increasing diving and playacting by the players. But nonetheless, Africa had to have it...bring on Brazil in 2014!

I thought I saw quite a lot of good goals. But anyways I thought it was a good world cup with plenty of talking points. Much better than 2006 where it fizzed out after the group stages. I think the tournament got better due to the fact that they got more used to the ball and teams were becoming less cautious. I think the quality of football has been generally good. :)

For the first World Cup in Africa, no one can complain (except ofcourse the retards constantly going on about the vuvuzuelas  ). It was alright, refereeing has hit a new low, but we got our fair share of surprises atleast.

I agree with Hugh, and no, I'm not being biased because it was an English referee. Alot of the yellow cards were deserved. De Jong should have got a red indeed - that challenge! :eek2: It was a tough game for Howard Webb, which wasn't a surprise. He did make a mistake at the end though by not awarding the Dutch a corner.

It was a boring first half but it became more entertaining. Spain deserved the win I think and the game was as tight as we all predicted. A shame the Dutch abandoned their attacking football to stop Spain. I was hoping for penalties but Iniesta had to pop up with 5 minutes to go. Spain are the world and European champions then! The Netherlands lose a third final.

It was a good World Cup but it wasn't great. There was some bad refereeing but there were some decent goals - not many long range ones though. At least we won't hear the vuvuzelas again  I didn't like them but it was an African World Cup, so we had to have them. I got used to them though so it wasn't so bad towards the end of the tournament.

Great Quote..

"So, I heard Spain won the World Cup. I'm happy. Not because I love Spain, but just because I no longer have to hear about the World Cup."

I miss it already!

Forlan the player of the tournament and Mueller top scorer and young player of the tournament. Who agrees with the awards? I bet none of you predicted Mueller to be the top scorer! I wonder what his odds were at the start of the tournament...

Goal of the tournament then? Van Bronckhorst v Uruguay in the semi-final for me. Honourable mentions to Tshabalala's goal in the opener, Maicon's against North Korea (did he mean it?), Villa against Honduras, Quagliarella's against Slovakia, Suarez against South Korea and Tevez against Mexico :neushades:

I'd just like to mention that I predicted Spain to win the tournament - but I thought they'd beat Brazil in the final... :neulol:

I watched the final, christopher. I personally thought it was just a terrible match. Truly awful. Few chances for the Dutch, and Spain never really attacked.
