ALSO: The 23 players that are already at Tignes (reduced after Lassana Diarra had to pull out) are the 23 that will be going to the World Cup - as I expected, since it didn't look like Domenech would replace Diarra anyway. Check the French section in languages for more details :neutie:

Sounds like England didn't play well at all, despite the scoreline! :eek2:

Australia beat New Zealand 2-1, but it really was a bad performance. First half was terrible, NZ led 1-0. Second half was better, we got a goal back and then scored with the last kick of the game. :neulol:

The real poor result is the Portugal one, while Argentina looks in devestating form with their 5-0...

I was out last night but I just saw a report of the Aus vs NZ match and I have to say, what the fuck australia? That was disgusting :snooty:

Grella :neured: Cahill :neured:

How they got away with less, I'll never know

I enjoyed watching the socceroos in the 2006 world cup, but I've lost a lot of respect for this side.

Fingers crossed for Tim Brown to make it to the world cup. He's already gonna miss the first match, and we're probably only playing three anyway.

I agree. Both Grella and Cahill's tackles were worth red cards. (though earlier in the week, NZ did say, this is no friendly and we're going to come out strong..)

Yeah, I don't remember who (might've been Fallon) said in a pre-match interview something about how there will be injuries, which he received criticism for.

Getting more jelaous for you guys now!

How do you consider your chances in the World Cup, hugh? Certainly an interesting group with not less than three teams from the 2006 knockout stage, plus a mighty Serbia. I get the feeling that Serbia is better in qualifications, though. I don't think they can perform well in Africa, like Ghana and Australia. Germany should win the group, but Ghana/Australia should be a tight fight. Both surprised in the recent WC and now they have the chance to create more moments. I'd say Ghana are favourites to advance with Germany, though, but it's very tight.

I'm resonably confident. Germany should top the group, but they are coming into the tournament with a lot of injuries and some key players in bad form. Ghana also have lost Essien but they will still be dangerous like in 2006. If we can beat them in the second game it should come down to the 3rd match against Serbia. Tbh I'm not so sure about Serbia, on the surface they have good players but they might be better in qualifications as you said. The key for Australia is to keep tight in defense (we are quite slow and old) and hopefully sneak some goals out of key players like Cahill and Kewell. It's been a long four years and now it's finally time to get vindicated for that game against Italy.

Indeed, Hugh, I hope England and Australia meet - what a match that would be! I love your group though - any team can go through and it's so hard to decide who will go through.

Australia are a dangerous side and are doing well against Asia's best now they've moved!

I'll never forget that Italy defeat, Grosso was ridiculous there.
