It was an experimental side with several players making their debut. 2 of our defenders were winning their 1st cap in the starting 11 replacing Bougherra and Yahia, our 2 best defenders, that weren't in the squad. But I guess because Algeria is relatively unknown people will assume we had our best starting 11 possible and will be shizzle in the WC :|

USA lost 4-2 to a declining Czech team too. But theirs was also experimental. You can't really judge a team on pre-tourny friendlies

Surprising win for New Zealand, but as ZZ said, friendlies don't really mean much when it comes to the World Cup. Do that in the World Cup and I'll be surprised!

England play Japan today in the last friendly before the squad is announced  Capello has announced the team already:

David James, Glen Johnson, John Terry, Rio Ferdinand, Ashley Cole, Theo Walcott, Tom Huddlestone, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, Wayne Rooney, Darren Bent.

Walcott AND Lennon in the same team? At least give Adam Johnson or Joe Cole a go! Can't see Huddlestone making the final squad but this is his final chance to impress I guess.

It actually means a hell of a lot for New Zealand football regardless of the context. To say it 'doesn't mean much' is a bit unfair.

Very lucky indeed, we won 2-1 with our goals coming from own-goals :| England were poor again. We need to play like we did during the qualifiers. Friendlies don't mean that much really but obviously it's good to play well before you play at the World Cup. Disappointing but I think we'll do better against the United States later, when it really matters.

The 23 man squad is announced tomorrow. Capello says he already knows his 23 players.

I actually can't wait to see who is in the 23 and I wouldn't be surprised if Carragher isn't there if I'm honest, but I've got a feeling he will be.

South Africa beat Guatemala 5-0 in a friendly earlier. ESPN says they've gone 11 games unbeaten now. I still think they won't do that badly, especially with home support behind them. They'll really be up for it and I think if they can get a positive result in the opening match, they could possibly qualify for the next round. People seem to be writing them off (including you guys) so being the underdog will help too.

England's final 23 man squad:

Goalkeepers: Joe Hart, David James, Robert Green.
Defenders: Jamie Carragher, Ashley Cole, Rio Ferdinand, Glen Johnson, Ledley King, John Terry, Matthew Upson, Stephen Warnock
Midfielders: Gareth Barry, Michael Carrick, Joe Cole, Steven Gerrard, Frank Lampard, Aaron Lennon, James Milner, Shaun Wright-Phillips.
Forwards: Peter Crouch, Jermain Defoe, Emile Heskey, Wayne Rooney

The seven players to miss out are Leighton Baines, Michael Dawson, Tom Huddlestone, Scott Parker, Adam Johnson, Theo Walcott, Darren Bent.

Baines - the would-be backup to Ashley Cole, has played in the friendlies while Warnock has only played like 6 mins a few years ago. Baines did say that he doesn't like travelling or something but it's a bit of a risk taking the untested Warnock. Walcott out :o

I don't care what people say about Heskey, you don't pick a striker that "plays well" with Rooney but can't score and doesn't get assists either, its like picking a Goalkeeper who can save penalties but is shit in open play. Crouch better start the majority of games.

Adam Johnson should be in there instead of SWP and Walcott instead of Heskey.
