Indeed, Heskey needs to start scoring. He had a great chance in the match against Japan but missed He does however work well with Rooney - and that's how Rooney gets most of his goals with England - so I can see why Capello likes him. You'd have Walcott instead of Heskey? So you'd take 3 strikers? Adam Johnson is debatable - he's a great talent but he hasn't played much for England (he played like 10 mins against Mexico or something?). Shaun Wright-Phillips has the experience and did well when he came on against Japan. Adam Johnson should be tried after the World Cup though. |

Walcott as a Striker as I like his speed upfront. But I would only play with 1 striker anyway with Lampard and Gerrard in AM wither side. |

Walcott up front isn't going to work if I'm being honest as he'll get marked out the whole game ![]() Gerrard and Lampard at either AMs means England will be sacrificing some much needed pace down the wings. |

I'd rather have Lampard as the Attacking Midfield instead of Gerrard if I'm honest. Gerrard is best behind the Striker, but with Lampard he's got more of the attacking threat than Gerrard if I'm honest. Yes, I'm voting Lampard over Gerrard this time. |

England have arrived in South Africa. World Cup fever is building Our squad numbers have been revealed too which may hint at the starting line-up, with David James number 1 and Crouch number 9:1 David James 2 Glen Johnson 3 Ashley Cole 4 Steven Gerrard 5 Rio Ferdinand 6 John Terry 7 Aaron Lennon 8 Frank Lampard 9 Peter Crouch 10 Wayne Rooney 11 Joe Cole 12 Robert Green 13 Stephen Warnock 14 Gareth Barry 15 Matthew Upson 16 James Milner 17 Shaun Wright-Phillips 18 Jamie Carragher 19 Jermain Defoe 20 Ledley King 21 Emile Heskey 22 Michael Carrick 23 Joe Hart. Alot has been mentioned about this new Jabulani ball too. Many goalkeepers have commented about the ball but surely it can't be that different to "normal" footballs?

Unfortunatly, I don't have Ronaldo or Rooney's shooting technique so I can't see the difference on my own

Rio Ferdinand, the England captain, is out of the World Cup. He hurt his left knee after a challenge with Heskey in a light training session. First Beckham, now our captain. Barry's still recovering too. Upson, Carragher, King or Dawson (who will fly out tonight) will have to replace him in defence then. Gerrard should step up as captain. If Rooney gets injured then it's all over. Didier Drogba might be out of the World Cup too with a suspected fractured elbow picked up in the Japan friendly (which they won 2-0). Drogba was in great form for Chelsea and if he is ruled out, this will definitely impact on his team. The Ivorians do have many other good players but Drogba being out will certainly be a massive blow. They need him in that tough group with Brazil and Portugal. He's 32 and might not make the next World Cup. Ballack, Essien and now Drogba injured I hate it when the world's greatest players miss out. The Ivory Coast won't be the same without Drogba. Germany are missing a major player in midfield and now we've lost one of our key defenders. Greeeat. |

STEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEVE GERRARD GERRARD. England captain should of been his before, now once he leads us to the word cup (lol) he will be permanent captain. But honestly, better captain than Ferdinand, is he even captain for the Mancs? |

I prefer Gerrard as England captain instead of Ferdinand too. Just worried about who will partner Terry in defence now really. Another injury scare - Italy are worried about Pirlo now

Agreed! Rio Ferdinand is out I would like to see Gerrard captain in his place, though. Makes the most sense to me. Edited by John, Jun 4 2010, 05:48 PM.
