South Africa couldn't even qualify, how embarassing. :ohdear This tournament should be every 4 years though, it's a little stale every 2 and really does get in the way of the club season.

It's annoying that it's played during the European domestic season :x I agree about it being every four years.

I'm not going to support Algeria, ZZ

I'm already rooting for Gabon B) No Senegal though, it's going to suck this year..

That'd be wack if it was every 4 years, seeing as not a lot of African countries make it to the World Cup, they need to be active

Ghana, Cameroon, and Ivory Coast squads added

Guy N'dy Assembe got called up to the Cameroon squad, I figured that would happen  He deserves it, he's been having a good season with Valenciennes so far B) Of course, he'll be third-choice, but it's good none the less

Some recent news:

- Mali lost to North Korea in a friendly :|
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/africa/8431853.stm

- Reda Johnson (formerly of Amiens, now with Plymouth) is going to the Nations Cup with Benin  He probably would've done well with us if he had stayed in the National, but he's more suited to the English game so it was for the best :neutie:

- And Egypt have released their preliminary squad for Angola:
Quote:

Goalkeepers: Essam Al Hadary (Ismaili), Ahmed Adel (Al Ahly), Abdul-Wahed Al-Sayed (Zamalek), Mahmoud Aboul-Saoud (Mansoura)

Defenders: Wael Gomaa, Sayed Moawad, Ahmed Fathi, Sherif Abdul-Fadil (all Al Ahly), Mahmoud Fathallah, Hani Saied, Mohamed Abdul-Shafi, Hazem Emam (all Zamalek), Moatassem Salem, Ahmed Samir Farag (all Ismaili), Ahmed Al Muhammadi (Enppi), Abdulzaher Al-Saqqa (Eskisehirspor, Turkey)

Midfielders: Ahmed Hassan, Mohamed Aboutrika, Mostafa Shebeita (Al Ahly), Shikabala (Zamalek), Abdul-Aziz Tawfik (Enppi), Walid Soliman, Mohamed Shaaban (both Petrojet), Ahmed Eid (Haras El Hadood), Hosni Abd Rabou (Al Ahly, UAE), Hossam Ghaly (Nassr, Saudi Arabia)

Strikers: Emad Moteab (Al Ahly), Mido (Zamalek), Ahmed Raouf (Enppi), Al-Sayed Hamdi (Petrojet), Geddo (Ittihad), Mohamed Zidan (Borussia Dortmund, Germany)

Mido :neushades: It's funny seeing him play in Egypt again

The BBC has also done a preview.

I've decided that I'll be supporting Zambia for this :neuwine: but obviously I'll follow the progress of teams with Chelsea players in. Chris Katongo will be our main man B)

Woah, Togo's squad has been fired upon on its way to Togo! :eek2: BBC News hasn't named any players but apparently six have been injured. La Gazzetta dello Sport says Serge Akakpo and Kodjovi Obilalé were injured and the driver has been killed :eek2:

Togo have asked for a suspension of the tournament.

Yeah, Thomas Dossevi said no one wants to play now. Crazy really, fucking militants shooting at whoever wherever, I mean can those assholes just put down their guns for a day? Apparently not. It's one thing to shoot down people in your own country because of some stupid political crap, but then when you bring another nation's football team into it, it's going a bit too far. I'd hate for the tournament to be postponed because of violence, that would be a new low...
