Just heard about that! This is really bad, sport should never get in the way of this political crap like Ligue mentions. Of course, I think they must play on, in order to show those militants that the authorities will not back down. Hopefully, however, it's not a sign of more violence to come at the matches.

It's official, Togo have pulled out of the African Cup of Nations. It's a shame, they shouldn't back down like Hugh says. The teams were all required to fly to Angola so why did the Togo team drive? Will the whole tournament go ahead? What will happen to Togo's place? What about the World Cup in South Africa - what will the security be like there? |

I don't think you can judge Angola's security due to this incidence. This could have been avoided if the Togolese FA LISTENED like the rest of the teams. But instead the selfish, money saving buggers sent the Togo players out to die, out through a well documented warzone area in the Congo/Angola border which is the unsafest part of Angola where guerilla warfighters lurk

Adebayor's already back in England, it sucks that Togo pulled out.. A small quote from a BBC article:
This could have been avoided I'm sure Adebayor would've covered the ticket costs if money was a problem.

Adebayor's already back in England, where did you read that? I haven't heard that. Togo are being asked to stay. What happens in their group if they don't? Marius - .

Oh yeah, I see now. I heard earlier that Togo were asking other teams to boycott. Manchester City's website also says he's returning. |

Indeed, it's true. Also: It is now officially official (I wasn't sure before ) that Togo will pull out after their government has announced that they will be returning. Source: FF.

I'd never ever play a football match in Angola if I was in one of the squads. The security seems crap. No doubt South-Africa has the pressure to represent Africa as a hoster this summer. Was 2010 too soon for the continent? |

Oh I never knew Angola and SA were the same country.... I hate generalisations like this when people think the whole of africa look and behave the same way. |

There is not much distance between Angola and South-Africa, ZZ. I have my rights to doubt Africa as a hoster of a FIFA World Cup when things like this still happens in 2010. This would never happend in a EURO for example. Of-course I'll support South-Africa and I really really hope the tournament will go fine, but I'm not safe. Togo has changed their mind and will take part in the ACN! Didn't see that coming! |

They ain't neighbouring countries Marius. To link the security in a warn-torn area with ANGOLAN gorilla fighters in the Congo/Angola border (not in the heartland of Angola) to South Africa is ludricrous. It's like me saying oh there's been terriorist bombings in Germany from GERMAN neo-nazis who want independence, I'm going to worry about England being hosts even though they have no interest to England. Also South Africa aren't/weren't in civil war apart from the struggle for Blacks against Whites, Angola however are recovering from it so/and they both have different structures politically and money wise. So in actual fact you are generalising a region despite the 2 countries being miles apart in terms of wealth and security. It's like me saying Mexico and Canada are the same because they are in the same Continent and quite close (USA seperating them). |

Fine, they are not the same, but I still question if South Africa or the continent in general is ready to host a FIFA World Cup. I hope so and I think South-Africa have what it takes to be a good hoster. Will be exciting to see how a World Cup in Africa will be like. |
