EDIT: Looking through the chat logs you were saying how Mali are going to complain about getting robbed and that Meghni's head will be on the wall so I just chose to ignore you :)

The game wasn't arranged since both teams had very good chances to score. Both teams only started passing the ball about in the 80th min but this was more of both teams being afraid to concede :)

And Marius, its still a cup format and the groupstage is part of that. A cup isn't just knockouts you know. There are pros and cons for both Head to Head and GD so don't talk to me about fair or not fair. Mali played us and they should have won knowing that but we beat them and its within the rules. If the rule was GD why do you assume the scoreline would remain 0-0 because Algeria would have a different mindset knowing they have to win ;)

The forum was slow for me earlier so when I hit refresh, I didn't see it on the forum :|

@ZZ: "Mali are going to complain about getting robbed" ( :) ) - I may not have said protest in that sentence, but I did mean it there :) And you just kept on smiling :) Well, the Malians aren't smiling :) I'm sure the Algerians aren't too after finding out that they will be facing the Ivory Coast on Sunday :) Good luck, right hand man :) Viva l'Algerie :)

Hahahaha you won't believe this  :

BBC Sport

Algeria coach Rabah Saadane has admitted that he told his team to 'take it easy' during their draw with Angola at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Mali lodged a protest with the Confederation of African Football (Caf) saying the sides purposely played out a goalless draw to ensure progress.

Mali were eliminated despite beating Malawi 3-1.

But Saadane denies the result was contrived and said both teams played by the rules of the game.

"I play by the rules, but there were 20 minutes left and Mali were leading 3-1," Sadaane told the BBC.

"We had the rules and knew that if Mali won, we would go through. So we said to our players: 'Now stop. Either score or draw - absolutely minimum.'"

"Mali can feel frustrated because they scored 7 goals, conceded 5. They had a better goal difference than us."

The draw in the final Group A game resulted in Algeria finishing level on four points with Mali, who beat Malawi 3-1 in their final match.

Algeria, though, advanced thanks to their better head-to-head record with Mali after the Desert Foxes beat the Eagles in their group game.

In their protest to Caf the Malian football federation (FMF) claimed the attitude of both sides was contrary to Fifa's ethics of fair play.

The FMF also stated that Caf had taken action in the past, for instance neither Cameroon nor Egypt were given points for a draw that occurred at the 2001 African Junior Championship.

Saadane agreed that the rules have to change

"These are Caf's rules and surely they must change," he said.

"We were lucky because the rules favoured us, but Mali are right because the rules aren't normal."

Angola defender Rui Marques also insisted there was nothing untoward.

"I don't think any team wants to take the risk of conceding a goal and maybe going out of the tournament," he told BBC Sport.

"In the first half they started much better than us that's why we were a little bit scared of conceding a goal which was a big, big risk for us.

"In the second half we were better but the football just didn't happen."

ZZ can hang his head alongside Saadane's on the wall :)

Bullshit rules protected them, unbelievable.

If the rules were diffirent, then Algeria would have played for the win as well. I don't see the big thing here, Algeria knew they would be through with 0-0 so why push many players up for the winner? Every team would have done the same...

Football has seen worse tbh, let's not forget the same Algeria in World Cup 1982, getting eliminated by Germany and Austria (?) who kept playing the ball to each other for 70 minutes because both teams were through and Algeria's game was already played.

This topic is ridicilous, Algeria beat Mali and goes through. They have proved they are better.

I don't know about Chris, but I'm just messing with ZZ - where did you come from? :| Hop off the sack already, son :neured:

As for Senegal, you can't talk because 1) I didn't see Norway in the Euros and 2) Don't see them in the World Cup either, so you can run back to Harald's mansion there :)

Exactly: Are Senegal in the Cup of Nations? No. Stay on the "topic" then and you won't get baked :)

Errr... a facepalm would be fine now, indeed. Why would the Malians smile now? I think the Algerians are still smiling to be honest

When was I baked by the way? :|

I saw your reason, but that's still not really a reason to smile :|

"Hah, we were knocked out and we think we were robbed! In your face, Algeria!"
