Oh oh oh, look who's back!

Roma v Shakhtar Donestk - Worst tie of the round, indeed, Hugh. It's 50-50, really. But I think Shaktar will go through. They have homeground advantage in the second leg. They are a good team as well. Can see two homewins coming up here.

AC Milan v Tottenham - another 50-50 tbh. Spurs have been more down lately, but I can imagine them bouncing back here.

Valencia v Schalke - Should be Valencia. I wouldn't underrate Schalke, though. Annan!

Internazionale v Bayern Munich - Last season's final over two legs. No-one has ever sucsessfully defended the CL title before, and Inter won't be the first team, will they? Rooting with Bayern here, because I like their way of playing.

Lyon v Real Madrid - Real to put an end to the bad round of 16-statistic? Not been in the QFs since 2004 - incredible! Lyon will give a match this time as well.

Arsenal v Barcelona - There is only one thing that defends us, and that is the underrating card. But I don't think we'll be underrated. Gijon kept Barca to 1-1 last week. Out of form? Doubtful.

Marseille v Manchester United - Marseille is a good homeside, they really need a result here. If they can keep United to a close score and avoid away goals, Man U might struggle. The City team that entered OT last week gave away a lot of space. Normally, United should take this, but OM has a chance.

FC Copenhagen v Chelsea - I can see a tight first leg, but God damnit, send those fuckers out. Tbh, I want to see two losers here :| Prediction? 0-0 in Denmark, 3-0 in London.

The champions league is back, now its the final stretch till Wembley.

Roma v Shakhtar Donestk - People on here are saying this isn't their pick or the worst tie of the round, i'll have to disagree. Although i don't like the itallian way of football, or know nothing about Ukrainian football i believe that this has the potential to be a good tie, however with the experience of Champions league football on romas side it looks bleak for Shakhtar, but they did win the uefa cup a few seasons back and beat Arsenal in the group stage (right?). So i'll say Shakhtar to go through to the round of 8.

AC Milan v Tottenham - This is a tough tie to predict a winner from, Milan are doing well in Seria A this season, and Spurs are doing well in their venture in the champions league. I doubt the same fairy-tale will happen at the San Siro again, so i think Milan will go through as winners of the tie.

Valencia v Schalke - Raul returns to spain for the first time since leaving Madrid, hope he gets a goal to his name but i know Valencia will go through.

Internazionale v Bayern Munich - The replay of last years superb final that was played at the Bernabau, both sides haven't been doing well i don't think but i know Inter will be out to defend their title, but Munich have enough in their tank for revenge. Bayern Munich will go through.

Lyon v Real Madrid - Another replay from last season's round of 16, Madrid have to break their hoodoo now. No more time for mistakes, excuses or any of the sort. They have a capable squad of winning this tournament over and over again now, but nothings came of it. they have 2-time winning manager of the tournament Jose in charge, they'll win this tie i believe and could be a favorite to win the whole thing.

Arsenal v Barcelona - replay of last years quarter-final tie, Arsenal do have the potential this season to cause an upset but Barcalona should win. However, i'm rooting for Arsenal to go through.

Marseille v Manchester United - :|coffee Now i have to be careful what i say about this tie, it could piss off both Alle and Hugh if i doubt any of their teams credentials. Marseille could pose a threat to United like they did to "Dead-Rubber" Chelsea in their group stage match, the match in which Chelsea lost. However, United are in phenomenal form and Rooney looks to be finding his own form yet again, Man United to go through.

FC Copenhagen v Chelsea - yet again, another potential match in which it could piss off 2 TC2 members  , The dream tie in Chelsea fans eyes, not too sure about Copenhagen fans, but i'm sure their team will bring their all to the game. I expect a fully tough time for Chelsea in Denmark, they haven't been too great this season but look to be picking up form, they just need the wins now for confidence. However, by the time the tie comes back to London Chelsea will be on top form and will win the tie 2-0. Chelsea will go through.

When the Quarter-Final ties are announced, i will name my two picks for the final. ;)2 ;)2

Woah, Tottenham beat AC Milan at the San Siro! I had to miss the game, but how was it?! I hear it was quite fiesty - what happened between Gattuso and Jordan?!

That's a great result for Spurs - impressive winning away against the Italian league leaders! They can definitely win at home. Nice!

Van Persie's goal reared it up Barca's cunt IMO I didn't even expect it :eek2: And that counter attack from Nasri leading up to Arshavin's goal, pure class, spectacular stuff :neuwine: :neuwine: :neuwine: FINALLY we beat those cunts, it was frustrating watching the first half to be honest. A stunning win, I must say. Van Persie's goal was great, although I'm not sure he meant it! The counter attack for Arshavin's goal was stunning as well!

I don't want to take the gloss off your win as it was great, but I think it will be a different story in the second leg

1-0 Would have been much better, we absolutely need to score down there.

But even if we win or not, we have beaten them for the first time! FINALLY! :D :D CHEERS, ALLE!

Did anyone see Riise v Shaktar? :P

The ticket prices for the final have been released. The cheapest ticket on general sale is £176, while the cheapest for fans of each team in the final is £80!

I'm actually tempted for the general sale tickets if Chelsea don't get there :| It would be a major chunk of my student loan, but how often do you see a Champions League final? I probably shouldn't though

I still think Barcelona has the advantage. They are pretty formidable at home, and they carved up Arsenal there last year. Nonetheless, we'll see.

Tottenham the real story here. They have it all in their hands at White Heart Lane. Gattuso

1-2 Will put Milan, through, 1-0 wins away from home is not a guarantee for going through.

Barcelona is still favourite to advance, indeed.

They are the most winning European club, with nine League winners cup titles (three of them Champions League). They won the Champions League in 1998, 2000 and 2002. They have advanced from all groupstages since 1997-1998. But Real Madrid have not come through the round of 16 since 2003-2004.

6th of April 2004. What did you do then? That was the last day Real Madrid ever played a quarterfinal in the Champions League. Raul put them 1-0 up in Monaco, and 5-2 on aggregate. But the (currently) small side from France bounced back and scored three, in order to advance on away goals. One of the greatest turn-arounds in the history. What a match that was, you should really take a look on the highlights! Monaco!

Bayern Münich was the last team they ever knocked out of the first knockout round. Oliver Kahn became the scapegoat, when Carlos scored a stunning freekick in Münich. Nice shot, but it should have been Kahn's ball.

Today, it's six years since Real Madrid beat Juventus 1-0 at home in the first leg of the 2004-2005 season. That was when the nightmare started. Have a look (or scroll if you're a Real Madrid fan).

2004-2005:

22nd of February 2005
Real Madrid - Juventus 1-0
1-0, Helguera '31

9th of March 2005
Juventus - Real Madrid 2-0a.e (2-1 agg.)
1-0, Trezeguet '75
2-0, Zalayeta '116

Video of Zalayeta's rocket

Uruguyan Zalayeta to score with a nice shot, with five minutes left to play. Celebrations in Turin.

2005-2006:

21st of February 2006
Real Madrid - Arsenal 0-1
0-1, Henry '47

8th of March 2006
Arsenal - Real Madrid 0-0 (1-0 agg.)

See Henry's run here!

Thierry Henry danced through the Madrid defence, to score the only goal of the matchup. I remember the second leg better actually, when Real had a shot at the inside of the post. Also, they sent the keeper up for a last chance and Arsenal had a midfield shot that Carlos ran down to clear on the line. :P

20th of February 2007
Real Madrid - Bayern Münich 3-2
1-0, Raúl '10
1-1, Lúcio '23
2-1, Raúl '28
3-1, Van Nistelrooy '34
3-2, Van Bommel '88

7th of March 2007
Bayern Münich - Real Madrid 2-1 (4-4 agg. Bayern advance on awaygoals)
1-0, Makaay '1
2-0, Lúcio '66
2-1, Van Nistelrooy (p) '83

See the amazing, quick goal from Makaay!

A Champions League classic. Especially Makaay's goal. The Dutch scored after 10 seconds! Do you remember! Carlos messed up and Makaay could easly score. Must have been great for the fans!

19th of February 2008
Roma - Real Madrid 2-1
0-1, Raúl '8
1-1, Pizarro '24
2-1, Mancini '58

5th of March 2008
Real Madrid - Roma 1-2 (2-4 agg.)
0-1, Taddei '73
1-1. Raúl '75
1-2, Vucinic '90+2

Taddei's nice header that kicked Real out of the tournament

I saw both of this games. Two nice games and two good games from Roma. Real weren't bad, the Italians did their job well. Van Nistelrooy had an early goal ruled out in Rome I think, and then Raul scored minutes later. Taddei's header in Madrid is just pure class.

2008-2009

25th of February 2009
Real Madrid - Liverpool 0-1

0-1, Benayoun '83

10th of March 2009
Liverpool - Real Madrid 4-0 (5-0 agg.)
1-0, Torres '16
2-0, Gerrard (p) '28
3-0, Gerrard '47
4-0, Dossena '88

You don't have to be Liverpool fan to enjoy this kind of football

Smashed. Not much more to say. If I remember right, Liverpool's first goals at Anfield were a bit of controverse, but still a great win for the reds. Probably the worst of all the exits for Real so far.

2009-2010
Posted Image

16th of February 2010
Lyon - Real Madrid 1-0

1-0, Makoun '47

10th of March 2010
Real Madrid - Lyon 1-1 (1-2 agg.)
1-0, Ronaldo '6
1-1, Pjanic '75

Well well well. Even after buying Ronaldo for a £80 million fee, they couldn't advance from the first knockout round. Lyon, who has been quite a nightmare in former groupstages (2005-06, 2006-07) for Real Madrid, was too big for the Spanish capital side. 19 Year old Pjanic the hero for Lyon this time.

The most recent exit, due to a 19 year old goalscorer. Nice roll-up and finish!

Can the world's biggest club Real Madrid finally advance from the round of 16, and leave Lyon behind?

Here are the former derbies:
2005-06 groupstage: Lyon - Real Madrid 3-0 (Carew, Juninho, Wiltord)
2005-06 groupstage: Real Madrid - Lyon 1-1 (Carew)
2006-07 groupstage: Lyon - Real Madrid 2-0 (Fred, Tiago)
2006-07 groupstage: Real Madrid - Lyon 2-2 (Carew, Malouda)

I'm surprised that Real Madrid have failed so often at this stage, but I think this year they'll advance. It's quite incredible how they keep failing at this hurdle, but it's not like they've lost to small teams. I remember Benayoun's goal for Liverpool well - still can't believe they won 1-0 at the Bernabeu, great result that was!

Copenhagen-Chelsea tonight too - I know FCK haven't played competitively for two months, but I don't think it will be as easy for Chelsea as everyone says it is. This is their first time in the Round of 16 and I think FCK will be really up for it. We're off form too. Didn't they draw 1-1 with Barcelona in the group stage? Hopefully I'm proved wrong and we win 4-0 or something :P Given our form I'll take a 1-0 win...
