I think so. They haven't wont their opening three group games for like 10 years. I feel something different about this team, I don't know, but all their players are firing well (at least at the moment). |

What team can possibly put up the best fight against Real Madrid then? They will win the group, so it has got to be a runner-up. Roma? Digging in my brain of football scores, to remember Real Madrid's "failures" since they were in the QFs last time, 2003-2004! 2004-2005: Losing to Juventus, after extra-time. They won 1-0 at home, lost 2-0 away after extra-time. 2005-2006: Losing to Arsenal, 0-1 at home and 0-0 at Highbury. They were close though, think they hit the inside of the post once. 2006-2007: Lost to... Bayern? Away goals I think. 2007-2008: Lost to Roma, both matches. Nistelrooy scored in Rome, but the Italians turned and won. I think they even won in Madrid too. 2008-2009: Lost to Liverpool, 5-0 agg. Was a bit unlucky in some important moments of the matches, but all in all they were outplayed. 2009-2010: The most recent one I don't remember! Lyon, was it? |

Bale can only get better, warns Redknapp vs ![]() Gareth Bale may already strike fear into the FC Internazionale Milano ranks but according to Tottenham Hotspur FC manager Harry Redknapp the 21-year-old's best is still to come. If Tottenham Hotspur FC youngster Gareth Bale did not deliver a sufficiently thrilling show of his prodigious talents at San Siro a fortnight ago, his manager Harry Redknapp has further highlighted his potential by saying he will only get better. Bale, 21, was the talk of European football after the second-half hat-trick that took Tottenham from four goals down to 4-3 at FC Internazionale Milano on Matchday 3 and, according to Harry Redknapp, the Spurs manager, the sky really is the limit for the Welsh international. "He's still really young and can only get better," Redknapp said. "He's got height, power, can run all day, shoot and dribble. He's a great athlete, it's all there for him." Redknapp added that keeping Bale's feet on the ground after his scoring feats in Milan had not been a problem. "He keeps his feet on the ground himself. He's such a quiet level-headed boy. He's not at all flashy. I gave him a couple of days off because I thought he needed a rest." Bale's achievement and the spirited response of his ten-man team to falling 4-0 behind inside 35 minutes in Milan has convinced the left-back turned midfielder that Tottenham can turn the tables in London. "It was nice to get a hat-trick but the most important thing is to get the victory," Bale said. "We want to get the points and get to the knockout stage and the only way to do that is winning. "We don't need any motivation. It's going to be a massive game. We all want to test ourselves against the best and they are the current champions. It will be a big game but at home we are always confident we can win and have the players to do that. This time we'll be fully prepared from the first whistle and hopefully give them a run for their money. It's important we learn from our mistakes." With Bale's batteries recharged, Redknapp is hopeful the former Southampton FC prodigy and his Spurs colleagues will go into the Group A return fixture against the UEFA Champions League holders buoyed by their second-half fightback in Milan. "They know, as I said, that we can cause Inter problems," said Redknapp. "Maicon is supposed to be the best attacking right-back in the world but he had problems stopping Gareth going the other way. Don't get me wrong, though. We know how hard it's going to be. I saw Inter last year win at Chelsea and they were fantastic. They've got some proper men in their team – [Dejan] Stankoviæ, [Esteban] Cambiasso, people like that. They've got some great competitors, but we've got a chance. If we can take four points from the last two home games, it should be enough to see us through to the knockout round." Tottenham sit second in Group A with four points, three behind Inter. Redknapp was full of praise for Inter's "excellent" movement in the clubs' first meeting and warned his side to avoid another false start after shipping three goals inside 14 minutes in Italy. "They play and run, play and run, and we have to be switched on properly from the start. At one point I thought it could be five, six or even seven-nil, which would have been terrible. But we've got good players here and we know we can cause problems in certain areas of their team. There are definitely parts of their team we can hurt, though obviously I can't divulge too much yet." This is Tottenham's first UEFA Champions League campaign and Redknapp believes his players are in no way intimidated by the experience. "In terms of the group stage, I have a squad of internationals here so they haven't been fazed so far," he said. "The Croatian boys came to Wembley and beat England not so long ago. Some of the others played in the World Cup this year so it's certainly not a question of, 'Oh my God, it's the Champions League'." ![]() (info courtesy of uefa.com) |

'Calm' Pereira believes Benfica can beat Lyon vs ![]() Maxi Pereira said SL Benfica were feeling no "extra pressure" in their must-win game at home to Olympique Lyonnais, adding: "We are fit, calm and ready to grab the three points." After losing 2-0 at Olympique Lyonnais it is fast approaching all-or-nothing time for SL Benfica when the teams meet again in Lisbon on Tuesday but Maxi Pereira says the home side "do not feel any extra pressure". Benfica lie third in UEFA Champions League Group B, three points behind FC Schalke 04 and six adrift of Lyon, after away defeats by both those sides. It is a time for brave hearts but in Uruguayan defender Pereira, Benfica have a man with just those qualities. He proved that last season with goals in both legs of their dramatic UEFA Europa League round of 16 elimination of Olympique de Marseille, though it is the result, not personal glory, that the 26-year-old is after. "Those goals are not important now, what we really want is to win tomorrow," Pereira said. "If I score, even better, but what matters now is that the teams wins. We don't feel any extra pressure; we all know what is at stake. We are playing at home in front of our fans against a big team like the [Marseille] match." The right-back, a key player in Uruguay's run to the FIFA World Cup semi-finals, has worked his way back into the Benfica lineup, having been a substitute in the opening 2-0 defeat of Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC. He relishes these occasions. "Pressure in these matches is always high, but we are fit, calm and ready to grab the three points," he said. "You could say we are favourites because we are at home, where we are always strong. But it will be a tight match between two big teams, so we cannot speak about favourites. I don't think about it. It will be 50-50 for each side." Lyon have several key players missing and others doubtful, but that is not distracting Pereira. "We don't think in terms of who is going to play but about what we can do as a team," he said. "If an important player is missing, another will perform like him or even better. Our role is to work and think that we can put on a good performance." Among those in doubt for Lyon is Pereira's potential direct opponent, left winger Michel Bastos, but he expects to be fit despite a thigh problem. "I feel better, I can do all my moves with no pain, I still have 24 hours before the match, so I expect to play," the Brazilian international said. "Benfica are favourites because they are at home, they showed their quality in Lyon. When we play at this high level it's normal to have injuries, so I don't agree that physically we are breaking down." ![]() (info courtesy of uefa.com) |

Kornilenko sets out Rubin stall vs ![]() On-loan striker Sergei Kornilenko told UEFA.com that FC Rubin Kazan were seeking a six-point return from their next two Group D games as Panathinaikos FC head for Russia. Emboldened by his first goals for the club, Sergei Kornilenko told UEFA.com that FC Rubin Kazan have a first Group D victory in their sights as Panathinaikos FC come calling in UEFA Champions League. Having joined the Russian champions on loan from FC Zenit St. Petersburg, Belarus international Kornilenko ended an eight-game domestic and European scoreless run for his new club with both goals in Friday's 2-0 victory at PFC Krylya Sovetov Samara. "It was a relief," he said. "To start with, I lacked a little understanding with my team-mates, sometimes luck and sometimes the right skills. Rubin really expected goals when they took me on loan, so now I feel much better." Kornilenko and Rubin drew a blank when they visited Panathinaikos on Matchday 3, with the 0-0 leaving both sides without a win in the section. Tuesday would certainly be a great time for the 27-year-old to score his first UEFA Champions League goal, and he felt optimistic. "We are no worse than Panathinaikos and we can beat them, especially with our fans behind us," said Kornilenko, who was brought in as a temporary replacement for Aleksandr Bukharov following his move to Zenit. Rubin rode their luck late on to secure a stalemate in Athens two weeks ago, but achieved their primary objective. "Our first aim there was not to concede," explained Kornilenko, who scored 11 goals in 15 games on loan at his old club FC Tom Tomsk in the spring. "However, we were not playing for a draw. We wanted to win but I think we played a little too cautiously." Having emerged unscathed from that game, Rubin must push on if they are to challenge for the top places in Group D. After kicking off with a 1-0 loss at FC København, they drew 1-1 at home against FC Barcelona on Matchday 2 and now need to start racking up points, at home against Panathinaikos and FCK, before the return fixture at Camp Nou on Matchday 6. "We want six points from these games, but even if we succeed, qualification will probably not be in our hands," conceded Kornilenko. The gravity of Rubin's situation will not, however, detract from the former FC Dinamo Minsk, FC Dynamo Kyiv and FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk player's delight at finally experiencing football at the very top level. "This is a very positive phase in my career," Kornilenko said of his first UEFA Champions League experience. "It is very different from the Russian league. There, you know every club, while in Europe everything is new for me." ![]() (info courtesy of uefa.com) |

Metzelder sees the light for Schalke vs ![]() Christoph Metzelder is eager to get FC Schalke 04 out of "the mess" they are in in the Bundesliga but first he aims to maintain their winning run in Group B at Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC. The UEFA Champions League must provide a welcome distraction at the moment for an FC Schalke 04 side enduring a miserable time of it in Germany. Felix Magath's team lie second bottom of the Bundesliga after a 1-0 home loss to Bayer 04 Leverkusen on Saturday, which was their eighth defeat in 16 fixtures in all competitions – as many as they suffered in the whole of last term. Yet, as defender Christoph Metzelder acknowledges, in the UEFA Champions League, they are already eyeing progress to the last 16 as they seek to build on home wins over SL Benfica and Hapoel Tel-Aviv FC, their opponents again back in Tel-Aviv on Tuesday. "The Champions League is different," said the German international. "I know we haven't shone in the league but in the Champions League we can see a route to the next stage of the competition." Perhaps because of Schalke's own domestic plight, though, Metzelder knows better than to underestimate the threat that Hapoel, bottom of Group B, could pose. Schalke beat them 3-1 in Gelsenkirchen on Matchday 3 but Metzelder warned: "I think Hapoel are a good team who just happened to get us on a good day for our forwards. We have to be careful and give the best we can here, because Hapoel can still produce a good game and we don't want them getting their first points at our expense. We take each game very seriously and we want to come away from here with all three points." Hapoel could end the night eliminated but striker Toto Tarmuz, scorer of two goals in their 3-2 weekend win over Hapoel Beer-Sheva FC, said they had to be "more efficient and stronger than before". Metzelder has the same hope for himself, reflecting on his poor start to life with Schalke, whom he joined last summer from Real Madrid CF. "It's true I started the season poorly but I feel I am improving now," said the centre-half, who turns 30 on Friday. "I had a great time at Real and I also enjoy Schalke," he added. "The training and approach are very different from one team to the other, but I get on very well with Felix [Magath] and also with the whole team. We hope that together we can pull ourselves from the mess that we've got stuck in in the league." Joaquín tells Valencia to get back on track vs ![]() Valencia CF winger Joaquín underlined the importance of the Group C showdown with Rangers FC, urging his out-of-sorts team-mates to recapture their lost spark. Tuesday's UEFA Champions League encounter between Valencia CF and Rangers FC will "be like a final" for the Spanish Liga side, according to winger Joaquín. Although they are separated by just one point in Group C, the teams go into the game in contrasting form. With 12 wins and three draws, Rangers are unbeaten this season while Valencia – defeated at home by Manchester United FC on Matchday 2 – have won just twice in their last six games, including Saturday's 1-1 home draw with Real Zaragoza. It was only a few weeks ago, however, that Valencia topped the Liga table, so the 29-year-old Joaquín is calling on his team-mates "to get back to how we were playing and to get the joy back in our game". It should help that the No7 is available again after spending most of October sidelined with an ankle injury, missing the last two UEFA Champions League fixtures. The former Real Betis Balompié and Spain winger said: "We must show maturity as a team and start doing the things we know we can. You could say we've lost a little bit of bite from our game – we've got a lot of young players and maybe we're committing too many errors right now." Another concern for Unai Emery's side are the visitors from Scotland – who will be accompanied by 3,000 supporters – especially given the threat they faced in the clubs' meeting in Glasgow on 20 October. "We have to be careful in every aspect of the game," Joaquín warned. "At Ibrox they showed that they are a hard-working team who are well-organised defensively yet also very dangerous on the break. This game is exceptionally important for us and we really cannot afford any slip-ups." Ominously, Valencia have failed to win their last three home matches in European competition – against Manchester United this season and twice in the UEFA Europa League last term. Hence the need to get the Mestalla crowd back on side with a clinical display against the Scottish titleholders. "We're only thinking about winning, that's the only mentality we have at the moment," Joaquín said. "We know that by getting all three points our fans will leave the stadium happy." ![]() (info courtesy of uefa.com) |

Alves wants more of the same from Barcelona vs ![]() Daniel Alves has called on FC Barcelona to reproduce the intensity they showed in Saturday's win over Sevilla FC as they go in search of the victory that would secure their progress. Full-back Daniel Alves said FC Barcelona would have to maintain the form they showed in the 5-0 rout of Sevilla FC on Saturday if they were to get the better of FC København in Group D of the UEFA Champions League. Alves was among the scorers at the weekend as Barcelona stayed within touching distance of Liga leaders Real Madrid CF, but he expects a tougher test at the Parken Stadion. FCK lost 2-0 in Barcelona a fortnight ago, but made enough chances in the second half to unsettle the group leaders and ensure the Danish champions go into the return with plenty of belief. "The last match was difficult as [København] are a very strong and well-organised team with a lot of quality," said the 27-year-old Alves. "We will have to learn from our last meeting and come out with the same intensity we showed at the weekend, but claiming the three points will be hard. We are improving as the season progresses and will try to match the performance against Sevilla, but the home crowd will ensure that it will not be easy." A host of missed chances cost Barcelona victory on Matchday 2 when they were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw at FC Rubin Kazan, and FCK might also have taken a point at Camp Nou had they made the most of their chances after the break. Dame N'Doye crashed a volley against the bar and César Santin missed with a header with the goal at his mercy, before Messi secured the win with his second goal in added time. That victory moved the Catalan side past FCK and into top spot in Group D and another victory on Tuesday will secure their progress. FCK defender Sölvi Ottesen, however, is confident his side can stop them and improve their own chances of advancing. The Icelandic centre-back is a major threat from set pieces, which will be one of the home side's main weapons on Tuesday. "I feel in good form and am really looking forward to this match, it is the biggest in my career," said the 26-year-old, who missed the match in Barcelona with a broken arm. "I believe we can get at least a draw which would put us in the driving seat to advance to the next round." ![]() (info courtesy of uefa.com) |

Mihaylov knows Twente must raise their game vs ![]() FC Twente No1 Nikolay Mihaylov says his side go to SV Werder Bremen with a positive outlook but knows they must "play a little bit better" than when the teams drew two weeks ago. FC Twente must improve at both ends of the field against SV Werder Bremen if they are to have any chance of moving into contention in UEFA Champions League Group A, says Nikolay Mihaylov. The goalkeeper was part of the team which drew 1-1 with Bremen in Enschede on Matchday 3, conceding a late equaliser to Marko Arnautoviæ after Theo Janssen's 75th-minute goal looked to have earned Twente a maiden group-stage win. While Mihaylov is promising a bold approach in the hope of gaining a victory which could lift them into second, the 22-year-old knows Twente must raise their game for what he considers to "a more difficult" assignment than when the sides met two weeks ago. "We have to play a little bit better, both offensively and defensively," said Mihaylov, who scored an own goal against the Bundesliga club while playing for PFC Levski Sofia in October 2006. "We are going to try to score goals and we're going there to get some points, maybe one or maybe three." Reflecting on the draw between the sides last month, Mihaylov said: "It was disappointing because they scored in the 80th minute. It was partly down to a small mistake from ourselves that they equalised, but still they had a couple of chances. We also had a few chances so, in the end, it was the right result." Though disappointed on that occasion, Mihaylov has enjoyed a promising campaign thus far having established himself as a No1 for the first in his career. The Bulgarian international has not looked back since replacing the injured Sander Boschker at the start of the season, performing so well at home and abroad that Twente's experienced goalkeeper has been unable to regain his place. "I am feeling very happy because I have been here for two years," explained Mihaylov, who initially joined the Eredivisie outfit on loan from Liverpool FC prior to making the arrangement permanent in 2009 after failing to dislodge Pepe Reina at Anfield. "I played two good games against Sporting Lisbon last year but after that I didn't get the chance to play. Sander Boschker played all the games and we became champions so it was a good season for the team. Now I'm happy that I'm playing, that I'm helping my team and we're doing well. I just want it to stay that way and to stay fit, that's the most important thing for me." ![]() (info courtesy of uefa.com) |

I can't see any second placed team putting up a fight against Real Madrid at the moment! If Roma qualify then perhaps them, but I can't see them winning either. No doubt I'll be proved wrong later. Looking forward to this week's matches! Chelsea are at home to Spartak Moscow, so I'm expecting a win here. Tottenham v Inter Milan is interesting! I think Tottenham will do well at home, and I'm more encouraged about this prediction after seeing their second half performance at the San Siro! Inter are still favourites though. If Rangers can get a point away to Valencia then that's a great result! Copenhagen are second in the table at the moment and welcome Barcelona to the Parken. Shock result here? Can't see it really. Basel beat Roma away and now they face them at home Marseille really need to beat Zilina tomorrow, Alle! AC Milan v Real Madrid sounds good Arsenal are good at home, but how will they do away to Shakhtar Donetsk?

On Facebook you said Lyon were French champions A good comeback by Lyon though, but they ended up losing 4-3.I saw Tottenham-Inter Milan earlier. It was a great game and I must say that Gareth Bale is amazing at the moment. He keeps running and running and turned Maicon inside out all game. Bale was absolutely superb and was key to their victory over the defending champions. Stunning performance from him and a stunning result! Matchday 4: Part 1 results Tottenham 3 Internazionale 1 Werder Bremen 0 FC Twente 2 Benfica 4 Lyon 3 Hapoel Tel-Aviv 0 Schalke 0 Bursaspor 0 Manchester United 3 Valencia 3 Rangers 0 Rubin Kazan 0 Panathinaikos 0 FC Copenhagen 1 Barcelona 1

Bloody heck, Spurs are turning up the style in Europe. Just imagine if Manchester City had gotten into Europe and went against Inter Milan...It might be a bit too early to say this but I think Gareth Bale is better than Ronaldo! |
