Barclays Premier League 2010/11![]() The Premier League season is back! The World Cup is in the past and now we can concentrate on the domestic leagues. As we all remember, Chelsea won the double last season after winning the Premier League and FA Cup. Chelsea won with 86 points (103 goals, new record; +71 goal difference), one ahead of Manchester United. Arsenal finished third while Tottenham Hotspur were the surprise team to finish fourth ahead of Manchester City. What about Liverpool, I hear you ask? They finished in seventh after a disappointing season which also saw them exit the Champions League early and sack Rafa Benitez at the end of the season. Newly promoted Birmingham finished 9th while Fulham - who impressed in reaching the Europa League final - perhaps lost focus on the league and only finished 12th. Burnley, Hull and the financially hit Portsmouth were the three teams to go down. This season the Premier League welcomes back Newcastle, West Bromwich Albion and surprise promoters, Blackpool. Blackpool are perhaps the smallest team to ever make it to the top flight so their progress will be watched by many. What can we expect this season then? With Chelsea going for the Champions League, will they lose focus on the Premier League? Will Manchester United regain the title? How will Arsenal do with the kids one year older and Chamakh among their ranks? What about the new rich boys, Manchester City, having signed David Silva, Yaya Toure, Kolorov and Jerome Boateng? Will Liverpool get back into the top four with Roy Hodgson in charge? Can Tottenham repeat getting into Europe and/or maybe finish higher in the table? So many questions will be answered in May next year! |

If Arsenal can sign another centre-back or two, we'll do well this season - because we already have Chamakh and the lot As for predictions, I'll wait until a day or two before kickoff

I've done my predictions but I'm still thinking about it, so I won't post it yet The first action of the season then - Martin O'Neill has quit Aston Villa! That's caught everybody by surprise - I doubt anyone saw that coming. I wonder who will replace him...

1. Chelsea ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 2. Manchester United 3. Arsenal 4. Manchester City ------------------------------------------------------------------------- 5. Liverpool 6. Tottenham 7. Everton 8. Aston Villa 9. Fulham 10. West Ham 11. Stoke 12. Birmingham 13. Newcastle 14. Sunderland 15. Blackburn 16. Bolton 17. Wolves ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 18. Wigan 19. West Bromwich Albion 20. Blackpool Not sure about who will win. Perhaps I'm just picking Chelsea on bias but I do think we've gotten rid of some good players and not replaced them. It will be close like last year so I won't be surprised if United win. We still have our core players and if we can play our attacking football again like last season then . I think we'll have an eye on the Champions League this season too so there's another reason for why we could fall.I think Arsenal will do well this season and maybe go on a Cup run, depending on whether they take the Cups seriously this year. Chamakh I think will be a good signing and the kids are a year older. If van Persie can stay fit then him and Chamakh will do well. It's close for me between Manchester City and Liverpool. The Reds will do better with Roy Hodgson but I can't help but look at the squad City are building. It will take them a while to gel but once they do, they'll have an all-star team. Mario Balotelli and James Milner to come apparently, wow. It will be close between them but I'm going for City in this one. I doubt Tottenham can get into the top four again, especially with a rising City and Liverpool. Everton and Aston Villa will also be up there around the Europa League places. How will Martin O'Neill and Milner's apparent departure affect the team? I think West Ham will do better this season. They have an experienced manager (Avram Grant) and brought in Piquionne, Hitzlsperger, Pablo Barrera, Ben Haim and Winston Reid. Of course, it will take them time to gel but they are some good individual players. Birmingham will suffer "second season syndrome" and will fall. I can't see the smallest ever side in the Premier League - Blackpool - surviving at all. West Brom always go up and down and it won't change this season. I'm tipping Wigan to go down with them. I can't wait for next year when I read this again and see how wrong I was!

Any news on a new manager for Villa? Stephen Ireland appears to be going to Villa pending a nice pay off that City dont want to give him, Ireland will be a good signing for Villa. Cant wait for tomorrow. Heres to hoping Everton have a decent start this season! |

The new manager hasn't been announced yet. I've heard Alan Curbishley, Sven-Goran Eriksson and Gareth Southgate are in the running but nothing has been mentioned. Stephen Ireland wants £2m ( ) but he would be a great signing for Villa indeed. The Premier League season starts today then! Tottenham take on Manchester City in the opener at 12.45pm BST. Here are the Matchday 1 fixtures: Tottenham v Manchester City, 12:45 Aston Villa v West Ham, 15:00 Blackburn v Everton, 15:00 Bolton v Fulham, 15:00 Sunderland v Birmingham, 15:00 Wigan v Blackpool, 15:00 Wolves v Stoke, 15:00 Chelsea v West Bromwich Albion, 17:30 Sunday Liverpool v Arsenal, 16:00 Monday Man Utd v Newcastle, 20:00 |

Bolton 17. WBA 18. Wigan 19. Wolves 20. Blackpool Tough to pick a winner but I reckon Man Utd should have it. Neither Chelsea nor United have really strengthened in the off-season but Chelsea may be focussing on the CL like Admin said. Arsenal should be there or thereabouts while surely Man City will make the top 4 this year. Aston Villa I see much weaker than previous years without O'Neill. Blackpool surely to get relegated. Hoping for West Brom to take some points off Chelsea this afternoon.

Joe Hart was outstanding for Manchester City against Tottenham in the 0-0 draw. Spurs totally dominated, especially in the first half, but Hart kept them in it with some great saves. |
