...and finally

That's it then, the end of the 2010/11 season! Remember to post your Team of the Season XI's and your nominations for the awards (and yeah, I'll post mine soon):

Player of Season
Young Player of the Season
Flop of the Season
Manager of the Season
Surprise Team of the Season
Match of the Season
Goal of the Season

United might not have played their best this season but they did enough to win the title and deserve to be champions. Chelsea weren't good enough during the whole season and didn't deserve to win it. I still don't think Ancelotti should have been sacked though. One trophyless season after winning the double, come on! Oh well. Thanks for the memories, Carlo!

So replacing Tottenham in the top four this year is Manchester City, who qualify straight for the group stage! I'm curious about how they'll do! Liverpool did well to end in fifth and I think they'll have a better season next year. It's definitely a top six now.

What a relegation scrap that was yesterday! Can't believe the Carling Cup champions are down and will play European football next year! Blackpool might be playing Europa League football too (fair play award) if Fulham's red card yesterday goes against them. A shame they're down though - they were like everyone's second favourite team in the league! West Ham deserve to go down... I wonder who will take all their 'talents'!?

Looking forward to seeing QPR and Norwich next season - especially QPR! Who will join them, Swansea or Reading? I don't mind either really - Swansea would be cool as they're new, but Reading are a decent side and are close-ish to me, so I don't mind :P

See you next season :neushades:

I don't think we'll see a last round like this in a while!

Chelsea sacked Ancleotti, eh. Well, it's clubs like Chelsea who ruins football. They have sponsers who needs results all the time - and at once. Once a club like Chelsea fails a bit, they'll sack their manager. It's gonna be like this now. Football has changed.

You'll never get contiunity in Chelsea. And that's why you'll never be a master over years.

Clowns.

I was unsure if to post this in this thread, or in the football pub thread. Apparently Gerrard Hollier has stepped-down as Aston Villa manager due to health concerns.

Jake's Review of Sunderland Assosication Football Club for the 10/11 Season

Posted Image

Well, in the summer leading up to the 10/11 Barclay's Premier League season Steve Bruce invested heavily into the squad. The Aqusitions of Cristian Riveros, Marcos Angeleri, Simon Mignolet, Danny Welbeck (On Loan), Ahmed Elmohamady and the club record signing of Asamoah Gyan. This summer felt different, probably because it was a bitter taste for England fans after seeing their national side humbled by the young, fresh blood of Germany or it could be the new sense of optimism for most Sunderland supporters including myself ahead of the new season.

August 14th came upon every team and they knew it was the start of the new Barclay's Premier League season. Sunderland hosted Birmingham City at home and every fan was hoping for a victory, but i thought a draw was on the cards due to it being the first game of the season and also thinking that Birmingham could carry their terrific form from the season beforehand into the new season. Sunderland lead 2-0 at one point thanks to goals from Darren Bent and a own goal from Stephen Carr (Haha, that's what he gets for being a ex-mag), but 2 calamity errors from new-boy Simon Mignolet and the game finished 2-2. Fans questioned the new boy, but i kept hope in him and believed he could have a great campaign if given the chance.

The rest of August was indifferent as we were beating at The Hawthorns 1-0 courtesy of a goal from Premier League new-boy Peter Odemwinge, we then went on to beat Colchester United 2-0 in the Carling Cup. The end of August was great as Sunderland beat Manchester City 1-0 with the last kick of the game, from a penalty converted by Darren Bent.

September came around and it was a month of draws in the league, Asamoah Gyan introduced himself to the Premier League by scoring on his debut against Wigan Athletic in a 1-1 draw. The Stadium of Light was the scene for yet again a last minute equaliser from Darren Bent, The Gunners had led from a bizare strike that deflected of Anton Ferdinand. Sunderland then bowed out of the Carling Cup after getting beat 2-1 off West Ham United. Sunderland then got a credible 2-2 draw at Anfield, Sunderland had led through a brace from Darren Bent until Dirk Kuyt got the 2nd for The Kop.

October is the month of the 10/11 season which hurts every Sunderland fan, despite having a 0-0 draw with Manchester United at the Stadium of Light, a 0-0 draw with Blackburn Rovers and a 1-0 victory over Aston Villa thanks to a Richard Dunne own goal. It was the 31st of October which will be in the minds of all Sunderland, and infact Newcastle fans. It was deffiantly Halloween for Sunderland as they were beaten 5-1 at St.James park...Darren Bent got the only goal for Sunderland, a Nolan hat-trick and a Shola Ameobi brace got the goals for Newcastle.

Sunderland knew they had to make it up to the fans after the 5-1 defeat, they went on to go unbeaten in 4 of their next 5 games in the league. November looked like this for Sunderland, they got a 2-0 victory over Stoke after the 5-1 defeat to put a smile back on the fans faces, a brace from Asamoah Gyan was enough to send the fans home happy. Sunderland were in the capital next to play Tottenham Hotspur. The Yid Army led 1-0 after VDV scored a goal, but a mere 2 minutes later Asamoah Gyan got a goal that helped Sunderland pick up a point in London. Sunderland then suprised the whole league when they travelled down to Stamford Bridge the home of then-champions Chelsea and won 3-0. Any team that can travel to London, let alone Chelsea and win 3-0 can be classed as a great victory. Goals from Onuoha, Gyan and Danny Welbeck. That Victory for Sunderland must have made Chris cry (Sorry man, i had to mention this). The rest of November Sunderland got a 2-2 draw with Everton, and then went on to lose 3-2 to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

December, the month of Christmas and the greatest time of the year to enjoy football. Mainly because, well...there is so many games played over the festive period. Anyway, Sunderland's December started off great, but ended badly. Sunderland beat West Ham United in the league 1-0 thanks to a goal from Jordan Henderson, they then gained a 0-0 draw with Fulham and then went on to beat Bolton Wanderers 1-0 thanks to a Danny Welbeck goal. The last 2 matches of 2010 ended in defeat as Sunderland lost 1-0 to Manchester United at Old Trafford before suffering a humilating 2-0 defeat to Blackpool.

Winter transfer window report
Sunderland were perhaps in the limelight for the departure of one of its players as Darren Bent left Sunderland for a £18 milllion + add-on fee to join Aston Villa. It left many Sunderland fans dissappointed but it meant now that Gyan and Welbeck could be the main men upfront. Sunderland secured the signing of Sully Muntari on loan from Inter Milan and managed to secure the signature of Paris St.Germain player Stephanne Sessengon. Meanwhile......The British transfer record was smashed twice in one day when Liverpool signed Andy Carroll from Newcastle for a fee of £35.5 million and then Fernando Torres completed a £50 million transfer to Chelsea.

January for Sunderland was great, they went unbeaten in the league but went out early in the FA Cup due to a 2-1 defeat to Notts County. Premier League fixtures were as follows, Sunderland beat Blackburn Rovers 3-0 thanks to goals from Gyan, Welbeck and Darren Bent (His last league goal for Sunderland before his controvesial move to Aston Villa). Before Bent moved to Villa, Sunderland went down to Villa Park and won 1-0 thanks to a new fans cult hero Phil Bardsley. Sunderland then got some North-East pride back with a 1-1 draw with Newcastle at the Stadium of Light, thanks to a last minute goal from Gyan. Sunderland's last game of January came at Bloomfield Road with a 2-1 win both goals coming from Richardson.

February was the start of a 9 game winless streak for Sunderland. 4 out of 4 losses for Sunderland in this month helped drop Sunderland from a healthy 6th in the league to 12th. A 4-2 Defeat to Chelsea, a 3-2 loss to Stoke, a 2-1 defeat to Spurs and a 2-0 loss against Everton capped off a miserble month of Ferbruary for Sunderland.

March saw only 2 league games for Sunderland due to International breaks, Sunderland managed to go to Arsenal and gain a credible 0-0 draw, before they suffered a 2-0 defeat to Liverpool. Luis Suarez on the mark for The Kop.

April was a month of nerves as it went from a top-7 finish for Sunderland, to a relegation battle and this month was surely going to be pivitol in Sunderland's season. It didn't help that the month started with a 5-0 defeat to Manchester City, whom were chasing the last champions league spot. A 3-2 home defeat to West Brom marked what was the turning point in the season and Sunderland fans started to boo the team, a 2-0 defeat to Birmingham (who were also in the relegation mix) at St.Andrews topped it off. However, Sunderland managed to record a victory at long last with a 4-2 win over Wigan (with no strikers on the pitch at one point). However, the next home game and last match of April was both humilating and dissappointing. A 3-0 home defeat to Fulham was abysmal to watch, with some fans even leaving before half-time.

May what a Month it was for football, especially premier league football. Sunderland got back to winning ways with a 2-1 win over Bolton Wanderers at The reebok with goals coming from Bolo Zenden and Sully Muntari (In what would prove to be his last game for the club). The next match however was a 3-1 defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers (The last match at home for the season, and a game which would help Wolves stay up). The last match of the season put a smile on Sunderland fans faces, as it was not only a victory, but it helped Sunderland finish 10th. a 3-0 win over already-relegated West Ham United was enough to see Sunderland fans see their team finish above Newcastle.

It was a indifferent season for Sunderland, they were both highs and lows of the season but we must take this season into consideration for next and see what we can build upon for the future. Emerging talent Jack Colback could be a one for the future so look out for him, also a positive for Sunderland was that they were Unbeaten in the Capital all season long.

A Love Supreme, reigns strong.

Player of the Season for me has to be Phil Bardsley, i mean he was the most improved this season by far and should be the captain of the club as he has the desire and heart, unlike Cattlemole and hometown boy Henderson. However, i could easily have handed the title of "Player of the Season" to Kieran Richardson, another player who has come great this term.

Flop of the Season, well its hard really i mean because most of the players were injured  so i can't make a decision, however if i must that title goes to Simon Mignolet. As much as i like the lad, he made too many blunders this term. If he learns from his mistakes, the better he'll become.

Next season will depend on what happens in the summer, Henderson looks set to be on the way out to either Manchester United or Liverpool. That'll mean a biug pay-day for Sunderland to help us build on, there is also talk of Cattlemole to Liverpool and Gyan leaving. I want us to keep hold of Gyan, but couldn't be arsed about Cattlemole.

The signings we make with the funds provided in the summer will help shape the forth-coming season, i am going to predict a 9th - 12th placed finish, so around mid-table.

Great review, Jake! :neuwine: The 3-0 win over Chelsea had to be the match of the season (for Sunderland anyway)

Gyan was your main man too eh :neutie: If it wasn't for the Bent move, I think you guys would've finished a tad bit higher. Looking forward to seeing how your transfer window goes :neuwine:
