Preview: Mumbai Indians v South Australian Redbacks (Match 7)What Mumbai Indians will look to get their groove back when they square off against the in-form team from Oz, South Australian Redbacks. When Tuesday, September 14, 2010. The game begins at 5.30 pm, SAST. Where Kingsmead, Durban About the teams MI would be smarting after their defeat in the opening match at the hands of the less fancied Highveld Lions. Should Saurabh Tiwary be fit, expect him to return to the squad and Dwayne Bravo to play ahead of Ryan McLaren. These changes should bolster Mumbai’s middle order, which seemed to buckle under the pressure of the run chase against the Lions after the fall of Tendulkar’s wicket. Also, Sachin is likely to get Lasith Malinga, his best bowler in the first match, to open the bowling. South Australian Redbacks have fewer things to worry about, having put in a clinical performance against the Lions. But though their batsmen, Michael Klinger and Callum Ferguson in particular, look in good nick, their frontline bowlers went for one run too many. Shaun Tait may have taken three wickets, but between him, Gary Putland and Aaron O’Brien, the Redbacks conceded 101 runs in 12 overs. With Mumbai eager to turn things around, a more disciplined bowling performance from the Redbacks’ frontline bowlers would be required. Key players ![]() Harbhajan Singh had a rather ordinary day in MI’s first match against the Lions. The spinner conceded 22 runs in three overs, without taking any wicket. But the prospect of playing any Australian side has always appealed to the veteran spinner. ![]() Callum Ferguson showed just why he is such a dangerous proposition for any team in the match against the Lions. He was the dominant partner in the 97-run partnership with captain Michael Klinger and it was his 27-ball knock of 47 runs that gave the Redbacks’ innings the required momentum. Mumbai better watch out for this dashing middle-order batsman. What Next A loss for MI would greatly reduce their chances of qualifying for the semi-final stage of the competition. A victory, on the other hand, would give them the required momentum heading into the remaining three matches of the group stage. The Redbacks would be looking to consolidate their position - a win here giving them enough breathing space over the other teams in the group, a loss leaving them no better than the Mumbai Indians. Either way, expect a cracker of a contest. (info courtesy of clt20.com) |

Preview: Bushrangers v Stags (Match 8)What With both clubs having lost their respective opening matches at CLT20 2010, the Victorian Bushrangers and Central Stags will be eager to post a win when they square off against each other. When Wednesday, September 15, 2010. The game begins at 1.30 pm, SAST. Where SuperSport Park, Centurion About the teams Victorian Bushrangers are the stronger of the two teams, at least on paper, but would be looking to shed their rusty form which perhaps cost them the game against the Warriors. Both the bowling and batting departments need to put up improved performances if the Bushrangers are to win against the Stags. Expect Dirk Nannes and Shane Harwood to look like a different lot of bowlers than they did in the opening game. Rob Quiney, Brad Hodge and Matthew Wade will look to give a better account of their batting reputations. Central Stags didn’t do all that badly with the ball in the game against CSK. In fact many feel that keeping a Chennai side that boasts names like Matthew Hayden, Suresh Raina, MS Dhoni, M Vijay and S Badrinath down to a score of 151 highlights the quality of their pace attack. Yet, if the Stags are to have any real chance of beating the Bushrangers, it is their batsmen, who only put up a total of 94 runs in the game against CSK, who will have to fire. Key players ![]() Rob Quiney, the Bushrangers’ left-handed opener, had an ordinary game against the Warriors, having found himself back in the pavilion with only a solitary run against his name. Quiney will look to correct that in the match against the Stags. ![]() Doug Bracewell was the standout performer with bat and ball for the Stags against CSK. His 2 for 28 and knock of 30 runs gave the Stags an all-round performer they required desperately in the absence of Jacob Oram. Bracewell will have his task cut out for him as the Victorian side’s pace attack is better than that of CSK as is their handling of fast bowling vis-à-vis the team from Chennai . Nevertheless, expect Bracewell to come good when the going gets tough. What Next Playing in a group where the Warriors have already won two games, and a strong Chennai outfit looking like the team to beat, a loss tomorrow for either side will make the route to a semi-final appearance virtually impossible or a function of net run rates. So sit back and anticipate in a high octane encounter with some superlative ground fielding which is the hallmark of Trans-Tasmanian cricket. (info courtesy of clt20.com) |

Preview: Chennai Super Kings v Wayamba Elevens (Match 9)What The Chennai Super Kings will look to go a step closer to a semi-final spot when they face off against the unpredictable Wayamba Elevens in this cracking Group A encounter. When Wednesday, September 15, 2010. The game begins at 5.30 pm, SAST. Where SuperSport Park, Centurion About the teams Surely the favourites to win this one, the IPL champions would do well to ignore the hype and perform on the field. The Central Stags weren’t much of a challenge in the opening game as the Indian side won comfortably by 57 runs. But a cause for concern is their top order who failed to fire against the Stags. CSK’s left-handed wonders - Matthew Hayden and Suresh Raina - flopped and it required Subramaniam Badrinath and Anirudha Srikkanth to deliver for CSK to post a decent total on the board. Although the Wayamba Elevens didn’t look out of sorts, they weren’t too convincing either against the Warriors in their opening match. The likes of Jeevantha Kulatunga and Kushal Janith Perera gave a good account of themselves with some flashy stroke play. But their bowling performance left a lot to be desired. Cohesiveness is the key to Wayamba’s success in CLT20 2010 and they need to fire in unison to get past the mighty CSK. Key players ![]() Chennai have a plethora of stars at their disposal but the one that stands out is Muttiah Muralitharan. The wily Sri Lankan will know the opposition very well and will be itching to take to the field against his compatriots. The Stags were all at sea while facing Murali and one can expect a similar experience against Wayamba. ![]() It’s time for the proven stars in the Wayamba line-up to stand up and be counted. Mahela Jayawardene has been there and done that. But he really needs to deliver in this one. With all the class and talent at his disposal, the former Sri Lanka captain could be the one to turn things around for his club. What Next? Chennai will be looking to resume normal service by running over Wayamba but the Sri Lankan outfit might prove to be a sterner test than expected. Two points for CSK will put them right at the top of Group A along with the Warriors while a Wayamba win will open up the group by bringing the Sri Lankan club, the Bushrangers and the Stags back in contention for a semi-final spot. I've just started watching CD's match and let me just say: please don't judge NZ's domestic competition based on our team's performances in this tournament. Our teams never play out of NZ and this is our off-season as well. CD aren't even putting up a top team. Another thing that pisses me off, as I've mentioned here before, is why we only get one team in the competition, while other countries get two. NZ has good teams, and our domestic competition has the same number of teams as Aus & SA. I gotta say, CD looks weird in this. All the sponsors are different to what they are here (for obvious reasons). Btw Nuno, you mixed up the pictures in the CD vs Victoria article. |

Congrats Chennai for their win then I presume you didn't go, Nuno? A shame the tournament wasn't on ITV4 or YouTube like the IPL. I really wanted to see these matches live. BBC Sport didn't even report on the tournament... |
