I don't mind Russia hosting 2018. All the candidates for 2018 were interesting in my opinion, and although obviously I wanted England to win, it will be cool to see it in Russia. The stadiums they want to build look nice and it's a 'new' country which hasn't hosted any major football tournaments. Apparently England went out in the first round!

It's very disappointing and I think the media have something to do with this with their 'findings'. The worst thing though is Qatar for the 2022 World Cup. I agree with Hugh's comments earlier - no football culture, small country, too hot and special drinking areas :| Corrupt and certainly a weird decision by FIFA. I wish I was in the voting room to see how they came to that decision, seriously.

Even USA would be better. I have to admit a little part of me thinks Qatar is intering though. Will probably grow on us all in the end.

It will no doubt grow on me later, but at the moment the decision seems completely weird.

Apparently England were fourth (out of four). Blatter said our presentation was "excellent" and we had a great report. Great stadiums already built, transport links, low risk according to FIFA - and yet we finished fourth. I'm looking forward to seeing the results later.

BBC News said Blatter reminded the FIFA committee of 'recent media coverage' - no doubt from our media. If that's true then there you go, thanks media...

At least we have the 2012 Olympics :thumb:

The votes (please don't laugh :| ):

2018: Round 1: England 2 votes, Netherlands/Belgium 4 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 9 votes.

2018: Round 2: Netherlands/Belgium 2 votes, Spain/Portugal 7 votes and Russia 13 votes (Russia obtain absolute majority).

2022: Round 1: Australia 1 vote, Japan 3 votes, US 3 votes, South Korea 4 votes and Qatar 11 votes.

2022: Round 2: Japan 2 votes, South Korea 5 votes, US 5 votes and Qatar 10 votes.

2022: Round 3: South Korea 5 votes, US 6 votes and Qatar 11 votes.

2022: Round 4: US 8 votes and Qatar 14 votes (Qatar obtain absolute majority)

Surely an error there with Australia's one vote.

I'm absolutely ropable with the decision. It's absolutely corrupt and totally based on oil money and bribery. Far out, the atmosphere in Qatar 2022 will be absolutely shocking. 1.6 million as population? How are they gonna fit like triple the amount of that in their country for a month, all wanting to drink alcohol! maybe even buy bacon too, oh god no!! Maybe the idea is that nobody will want to go so they won't have to worry. Just imagine the heat. the fans will die and the players will too, it will literally be a survival of the fittest.

Russia is actually a good choice but clearly dominated by oil/gas as well. Football has now been taken over by money, this day is the death knell.

Can't really believe England and Australia got voted out in the first rounds, the bids were good. Sigh...

Well Qatar has proposed air conditioning in the stadiums and areas where they will sell alcohol.

Nah. Russia has the 2014 Winter Olympics and now the 2018 World Cup, and Brazil has the 2016 Summer Olympics and 2014 World Cup!

Indeed, Hugh. Apparently their stadiums will be made cool so it won't be as hot, and then they'll dismantle the stadiums after - :| ! You're right about the rest of it, Hugh!

Their national team is shocking too!

Can't believe we got 2 votes and Australia got 1.

:eek2: :eek2: :eek2: ! ROFL

Russia and Qatar is shocking though indeed. Russia ok, but Qatar :| The only (and I say ONLY) positive thing about that was Zidane's involvement there, but even that doesn't help. Marc Wilmots said that it would be like 1994 when they had to play in 42 degree weather down in Orlando. Obama was gutted, saying it was a bad decision. Bruno Metsu (Current Qatar coach/Senegal's coach in 2002) will like this, but I doubt he'll be there by then. Disappointing decisions IMO, rigged.

So the only good thing about Qatar hosting the World Cup is Zidane's involvement in the bidding process? OK :|
