Indeed, lots of anger over here about FIFA being corrupt and how fixed the decisions were. Most people here are calling for a reform of FIFA... |

All sorts of crap is coming out about Qatar and their rotten bid. Al Jazeera knew Qatar won an hour beforehand. The country's civil liberties record is shocking, public affection not allowed, homosexuality is jailed, alcohol allowed in a select few places. Lonely Planey named Doha the 'world's most boring place'. 1.5 million people of which (reportedly) only 200,000 are not migrant workers - I wonder who's building the stadiums? Something like 70% of tickets are allocated to the home population, you think Qatar is really gonna fill the stadiums with that population? Apparently in the 1995 World Youth Cup (or similar), women weren't allowed in the stadiums and men weren't allowed to wear shorts despite the 50 degree heat. Their football team is a piece of shit, they got pumped 4-0 by Australia for fucks sake (despite all their nationalised foreigners) - we said South Africa would struggle as host but this will be ridiculous. They've basically bought their way qualification to a world cup. Oh FIFA, you corrupt bastards, what have you done.

Interesting comment I read, seems pretty accurate too: USA will get 2026 unless they change the rules so China can get it. Uruguay will get 2030. The real question is will it be a joint bid with Argentina. China will get 2034.. Europe will get 2038. 2042 will have relatively weak bidding nations, probably Mexico, Argentina, Morocco and Egypt looking to host. 2046 we'll have another shot at bidding, but will be up against Japan, Korea and India. |

Indeed, in the outcast for our Euro 2016 bid, we actually mentioned that "we don't need flood lights! Haha, we only need 4 stadiums, cos currently we have 0

True statement though about their "international" squad. With Bruno Metsu and their 4 Senegalese players (shocking indeed) + Brazilians and whatever else, they'll make it in 2014. (Joke) |

Gabriele Marcotti said on Twitter that Qatar will spend around $50 billion in the next 12 years on the World Cup - around 50% of their GDP. It's like the United States spending $7.1 trillion he says!

Surely the Qataris should learn from the UAE, whose similar 'big city in the desert' economy is now a disaster. I hope they fail.Anyway, Franz Beckenbauer (by the sounds of it the only member of FIFA Exco with any integrity) said he was shocked to see Australia and England knocked out first, and Qatar win the thing. Rumour is that the he was Australia's only vote. He suggested Qatar hold the tournament in January, he's obviously not pleased with the decision. He'll step down from the committee next year... |
