Tippeligaen 2011 ![]() It's almost here, ladies and gentlemen! 18th of March 2011, Tippeligaen will be kicked off at Sarpsborg stadion, where the recently promoted Sarpsborg08 will try to beat Ole Gunnar Solskjær's Molde. We're standing ahead of an interesting and close season, so you better not miss this! Rosenborg will try to take their 23rd league title - which could be their third in a row. They went unbeaten through 2010, after losing only once in the season before. RBK are currently unbeaten for 33 games, which beats their old record on 32 games from 1997 to 1998. They have neither lost any of their 30 previous away games, which also qualifies for a club record. SK Brann Bergen is the first challenge away from home in the opener. Can they end Rosenborg's list of unbeaten games? 2011 will not be a dance on roses for Rosenborg, in spite of being unbeaten last season. The club have lost their best player (Anthony Annan) to Schalke04, their top scorer (Steffen Iversen) to Crystal Palace, both of their central defenders (Vadim Demidov to Real Sociedad and Kris Stadsgaard to Malaga), and their manager (Erik Hamrèn, new head coach for Sweden). Rosenborg have failed to replace them, and the fans now believe they will be challenged and even beaten - in the title race. Vålerenga were the team that challenged RBK for their title in 2010, and they have secured some good signings. Yssouf Kone (former RBK) from Cluj, Fredrik Stoor (former RBK!) from Derby County. Can they cope with the pressure? Molde FK is also one of the most interesting cards in 2011, even though they shouldn't be counted in the title race just yet. Ole Gunnar Solskjær is back in Norwegian football, for the league he left for Manchester United in 1996. The season ticket sale is going good in Molde! They have also loaned some players from United's B team, so this should be an interesting season for them. Tromsø and Viking should also be named in the title race. Where do they come from? ![]() All teams: Aalesunds FK SK Brann Fredrikstad FK FK Haugesund Lillestrøm SK Molde FK ODD Grenland Rosenborg BK Sarpsborg08 Sogndal IL Stabæk IF IK Start Strømsgodset IF Tromsø IL Viking FK Vålerenga IF The opening rounds: 18th of March Sarpsborg08 - Molde 19th of March Viking - Vålerenga 20th of March Stabæk - Lillestrøm ODD Grenland - Start Strømsgodset - Sogndal Tromsø - Haugesund Brann - Rosenborg 21st of March Aalesund - Fredrikstad 1st of April Vålerenga - Aalesund 2nd of April Fredrikstad - Viking 3rd of April Molde - Tromsø Haugesund - Sarpsborg08 Sogndal - ODD Grenland Start - Strømsgodset Rosenborg - Stabæk 4th of April Lillestrøm - Brann The full list of fixtures Team presentations I've made a presentation of all the 16 teams. The Venues: Here are the venues of Tippeligaen 2011 in alphabetic order. Which one do you like the most? Aker stadion (Molde) - rights belongs to carrerra2 and Per Sistens (Flickr.com) ![]() ![]() Molde's 13.000 seater, Aker stadion, often refered to as the "Røkkeløkka" (Røkke's playing ground) is the stadium with the sixth most beautiful location in the world, according to the Swedish newspaper Aftonbladet. Agreed? Alfheim (Tromsø) - rights belongs to Jørgen AM (Flickr.com) ![]() The most northern Premiership stadium in the world. Not a big or beautiful arena, though! Tromsø have considered a new stadium, but lack of money and crowd makes it hard to finance it. Brann stadion (Brann) - rights belongs to aha42 (Flickr.com) ![]() The home of Brann. It's full almost every time, and their fans are very patriotic and crazy. Always loud, which makes a good atmosphere there. Clean stadium built in one level, instead of two floors. Great. Color Line stadion (Aalesund) - picture found at altomfotball.no ![]() Built in 2005, and the home of Molde's rivals Aalesund FK. Comes from what must be considered as Norway's most beautiful city. Stadium is not too bad either, but I think they should have built the stadium in one level, instead of separating the upper and lower stands with adverts. Looks awful! I like the "horseshoe" model, though. Gives an identity to the stadium. Fosshaugane Campus (Sogndal) - picture found at worldstadia.com ![]() Decent stadium, in spite of only 6000 seats. They come from a little village with hardly 5000 innhabitans after all! Very beautiful place, Sogndal! Worth a look. Fosshaugane is the only stadium in the world with a section only for girls (!). Sogndal does not sell drinks with sugar in either, they think it's important with a healthy lifestyle. Fredrikstad stadion (Fredrikstad) - belongs to Not forgotten (flickr.com) ![]() Opened in 2007. The home of a very good supporter club, who always fill up their stadium. Located south-east in Norway, and they are very "un-Norwegian" in their way of supporting their club. No glory hunters here! Haugesund stadion (Haugesund) - picture found at cdn.wn.com ![]() Old fashioned. Looks awful, and the main stand does not even cover the fans for rain! Athletes ground as well, so the stands are far from the ground. Oh dear. Lerkendal (Rosenborg) - rights belongs to Marius Dahl ![]() The home of Rosenborg BK, and the second largest stadium in the league. Has had the best average of fans every year this century. The fans are not happy with the fashion of it, though, with the red seats at the biggest stand - and the small levels separated by the VIP places. It's not a good looking stadium! Marienlyst (Strømsgodset) - rights belongs to horpestad (flickr.com) ![]() Credit for keeping the old look of it! Looked this way in the 1970's as well. Maybe they need something new now? Sarpsborg stadion (Sarpsborg08) - rights belongs to Movin2u (flickr.com) ![]() Had to build temporary stands to be accepted as a Tippeligaen stadium. They have plans of a new stadium, though. Luckely! Skagerak arena (ODD Grenland) - found at Odd.no ![]() Odd's stadium is odd. Why did they build a big upper stand, and then put a small level on top of it? Looks....ODD! Indeed! Sør arena (Start) - rights belongs to RolfSteinar and Tor Erik Schroder (flickr.com) ![]() The most southern arena in Tippeligaen. Very beautifully located, and the stadium looks decent too. Don't know why all Norwegian teams choose to build with upper and lower levels though... Annoying! Looks better without it! Would have been better with yellow seats too, the club's colors. Opened in 2007 this, 14.000 seater. Telenor arena (Stabæk) -rights belongs to Lars Magne Sunnanå (flickr.com) ![]() Indoor arena, opened in 2009. Don't know why they chose to build it with roof. If it was Tromsø, I'd understand, as they have many winter months, but Stabæk!? It's a scandal that they built this indoor! Football is an outdoor sport! Having said that, I'd like to credit them for the way of building the stands. Looks straight and nice. Should have had a cooler color of the seats, though. Grey! Ullevaal stadion (Vålerenga) - rights belongs to horpestad (flickr.com) ![]() National team stadium as well as Vålerenga's. Or well, Vålerenga is just loaning this one, even though it's at the "wrong" side of Oslo. They should build their own stadium where they actually belong. Viking stadion (Viking) - rights belongs to Jåttå vgs (flickr.com) ![]() Norway's most beautiful one. So straight, so nice, so beautifully located by the sea. Åråsen (Lillestrøm) - rights belongs to lsk.no ![]() Not a good-looking one, but their fans are good, so it's worth to go here anyway. It's great to come here for the LSK-Rosenborg derbies, spit at their ugly place and sing them out. Lillestrøm is a harsh place, you better not walk alone here with a different team's jersey. Located north for Oslo, always trouble here when there's clashes. 16 stadiums, 16 different cities. There will be passion, tragedy and feelings in all of them the next month. Can't wait! |

Potential new stadiums: Gullegget (Tromsø) ![]() Indoor stadium, 12.000 seater in Tromsø. More or less given up, due to the price. Would have been good for Tromsø, though, who has struggled with snow. Nye Sarpsborg stadion (Sarpsborg08) ![]() Sarpsborg needs a new stadium for next season (the Norwegian FA allows promoted teams to play at crap stadiums, but they have to build if they want to "survive" for the next season). The plans for the new Sarpsborg stadium are nice, but I doubt it will be so nice. Hoping, though! Vålerenga's new one ![]() Vålerenga wants to move from Ullevaal. They are now discussing how it will look like and how big it will be. Hopefully, they'll build a cool one. |

I voted Valerenga, just because it is their turn afterall BTW, some Senegalese players are on trial at Brann/Tromso: ![]()
I saw a video on France24 about Diambars and Cisse was featured - he's their best player apparently (old video though, from last year ). Talented though, I hope they all make it Here's the video from France24 if anyone is interested (in ENGLISH): http://www.france24.com/en/20100115-senegal-football-academy Mignane Diouf was already at Tromso, I think he was on trial at Amiens too (according to a source, but they decided not to keep him ). He was the top scorer of Senegal's Ligue 2 last season |

Nice thread so far! I'm loving the stadium pictures - some of them are in great settings! Tromso should build that stadium - it looks quite cool! Reminds me of the Sapporo Dome in Japan - one of my favourite stadiums!Title prediction? Can't look past Rosenborg, but as you say, they've lost many key players. Valerenga did well last season. I expect Molde, Stabaek and Brann to improve too. Take your pick! |

Maybe he should actually... Luton is much quicker at least! But Prica is a typical goalscorer. I also excluded Brann's new signing Bentley, who is quite decent. I must ask for Snorre to make his team Mikkel Diskerud is hardly a foreigner by the way. He speaks Norwegian fluently, and he has lived in Norway for his entire life. He IS Norwegian, but his mother is American or something, so he chose them. Idiot! ![]() Dunno about the Benin player, I can look him up. |
