The beauty of football
Posted Image
Let's leave the glamorous (haha) Tippeligaen for a little while and go deeper down in the Norwegian league system. This reportage is actually very good, it's in Norwegian, but you can enjoy it.

Every week, a Norwegian programme called "FC Football" visits a small club to make a reportage about the atmosphere and talk to the local people. This week, they visited a village that's EXACTLY between Trondheim and Elverum - 3 hours south for Trondheim and a few hours north for Elverum: Alvdal.

For the first time since 1986, they were playing their rivals Tynset, the neighbour village, in the cup. Even at level 5, the pation is still strong and there were thousands around the pitch.

Second qualround in the Norwegian Cup, the winner would get to the first round proper in the cup. Alvdal in blue vs Tynset in red. Two late strikes, and penalty shoot-out were needed to decide a winner.

Have a look, this is beautiful. Around 02:37, they are looking closely at some player - apparently he is 37 year olds and from 1996 to 2004 he played 200 games in a row for Tynset! Legend!

See the five minutes reportage here!

The budgets:

Who has the money? Who has to look deeper in the market, because of lack of money? Here are the budgets of Tippeligaen 2011.

Rosenborg - £26.09 m
Vålerenga - £16.16 m
Brann - £14 m
Viking - £12.47 m
Stabæk - £10.18 m
Aalesund - £9.29 m
Tromsø - £9.16
Molde - £8.91 m
Odd Grenland - £8.02
Fredrikstad - £7.64 m
Start - £7.64 m
Lillestrøm - £7.00 m
Strømsgodset - £6.24 m
Haugesund - £5.60 m
Sogndal - £3.05 m
Sarpsborg08 - £2.55 m

Massive gap between Rosenborg and the rest  I thought Molde would be higher to be honest, and Tromsø up there! This statistic does not say who has the dept, though, I think Tromsø will fall.

Who are the main sponsers?

Aalesund - Sparebanken Møre (local bank)
Brann - Sparebanken Vest (local bank)
Fredrikstad - Staubburet (food producer)
Haugesund - Sparebanken Vest (local bank)
Lillestrøm - Nordea (local bank)
Molde - Sparebanken Møre (local bank)
Odd Grenland - Skagerak Energi (power station)
Rosenborg - REMA 1000 (franchise supermarket)
Sarpsborg08 - Borregaard Planbo (train carrying)
Sogndal - Lerum (lemonade producer)
Stabæk - Telenor (phone and internet company)
Start - Sparebanken Sør (local bank)
Strømsgodset - Sparebanken 1 (local bank)
Tromsø - Sparebanken Nord-Norge (local bank)
Viking - Lyse (power station)
Vålerenga - Nordea (bank)

Eight of the 16 clubs are sponsered by their local banks

Ladies (err) and gentlemen. I'm now home in Elverum, my REAL home. The little town in the east of Norway, where I spent the first 19 years (and two weeks) of my life.

It's easter, holidays and time to meet old friends who has chosen other places to study than Trondheim (stupidos). Simply missed this place so much! But I'm not going to talk about that, this is a football thread and I will have to introduce you to Elverum Fotball.

I promised to go deeper in the Norwegian league system sometimes, even though my main focus are on the top league. I've introduced the Adecco sides. Today, I'm gonna talk about level 3. A short introduce:

2.divisjon (called the Fair Play league) is a league split in four groups of 14 teams. The groups are based on local possitions in the country, and has a mix of several B teams in it.

*Four groups of 14. Four sides goes up to Adecco, one from each group.
*Second place does not even get a play-off.
*Four teams goes down from Adecco. One to each group.
*Three teams goes down to 3.divisjon from each group.
*Tippeligaen's B-sides are allowed to play in 2.divisjon. But they can NOT promote to Adecco.
*If they win the league, the runner-up will be promoted.
*If the B-side saves the spot, but the proper team relegates from Tippeligaen to Adecco, the second team will go down to third.
*Then again, the relegated side with most points (of all the 4 groups) will save the spot.

The level of these leagues is actually nice. The better sides are good, but the worst sides are really bad. Elverum relegated from 2.divisjon in 2004, winning only three games. Since that, we have only failed to come back. Until 2010, where we finally managed to go back to the 2.divisjon!

Our first game in 2.divisjon since 2004 was played last weekend, and we had Valdres away from home. I followed it on the internet and we WON 4-1!!! :D :D :D What a great start for a side that is predicted to go staight down again!

Tommorrow, we play our first homegame of the season, and the opponent Raufoss is the favourite to promote. They won their first game too, so this should be very hard. A point will be good! Elverum's group (group 2) will only consist 13 teams, as Manglerud Star was bankrupt ahead of the season. We were meant to play them in the last round, so we will end our season before the others. A shame!
Hard economical times for Follo as well: Last season they shocked everyone when they beat Lillestrøm and Sogndal, in order to eliminate ROSENBORG in a shocking semi final. Follo, who struggled to save the spot in Adeccoligaen, was going to play a cupfinal! I remember the headline in Rosenborg's local paper Adressa the next day: It was all black! Hahaha!
Follo lost the final, but managed to save the spot. However, their license was removed as their stadium wasn't accepted. Therefore, they were moved down to our league.

A head of this season, Follo had to sell all their players because of a big dept, so they have to start from bottom this season. Which means that the biggest favourite to win, might have to struggle to save the spot. I don't like this trend at all!

Vålerenga's manager MARTIN ANDRESEN has signed for the club, to help them when he has the time to play!! Imagine that happening in England! At my 20th birthday, 4th of June, Elverum will play Follo at home - what if he joins in? Tippeligaen has a week off then due to Portugal-Norway, so it can happen!!

Elverum. :notworthy: Norwegian football. :notworthy:

Norwegian FA-cup - first round draw

Posted Image

The Norwegian Cup - an old tournament filled with traditions and soul. Welcome to the 106th edition of the Norwegian Cup.

1st of May 2011 will be the date for the first round, while the final takes place in November. This year, the final will be played before Tippeligaen has ended - that's new.

The format is easy, knockout, one leg. Drawn games goes into extra time and then penalties. There have been second legs in semifinals, even in finals.

All sides have to play the first round, and there will be three rounds before the round of 16 - so a total six rounds before the final. Teams from the highest three levels are directly qualified (without the B sides of-course), while lower teams have to qualify. Tippeligaen and Adecco teams are seeded and can't play each other in the first three rounds, and Tippeligaen sides have to play the two first rounds away from home.

The first round is a fest in Norway. All the small sides would love to play a Tippeligaen side, because it gives attention and a lot of ticket and TV money, as all the games are aired. Jevnaker beating Lyn 2-1 in 1993 is the last time a smaller side have beaten a Tippeligaen side in the first round. Since then, there have been a total 268 games with no win! Some teams have come close, though: In 2008, Strømsgodset scored an OVERTIME goal to make it 2-2 against Øvrevoll/Hosle! Godset then went on to win 7-2 in the extra-time! Ø/H claimed that their goal should have been ruled out too!

Martin Andresen has signed for Follo!? Is that even allowed? What if Valerenga play Follo - then he's registered with both teams? He'd manage Valerenga for sure but it just seems weird that he's registered with Follo also.

Predictions for the next round of the Tippeligaen:

Haugesund 1 Brann 2
Start 2 Viking 2
Molde 1 Stabaek 1
Odd Grenland 2 Aalesund 1
Sogndal 2 Tromso 0
Godset 0 Sarpsborg 0
Valerenga 2 Lillestrom 1
Fredrikstad 0 Rosenborg 1

Cool that you're going to Fredrikstad  Rosenborg to sneak a win here...

Indeed, it's weird.

Your prediction for the Brann game is allready wrong. I thought this would be 0-0, but the half time score is 3-3!

What a first half it has been in this West Norwegian derby! Erik Mjelde gave Brann the lead after 11 seconds! Experts are currently discussing if that's the fastest ever goal in Tippeligaen!

Haugesund then turned it to lead 3-1, before a soft penalty put Brann back into the game. Diego Guastavino made a great goal to make it 3-3!

Amazing, where will this end? I guess it will be boring now that I have turned it on :ohdear
