Norwegian FA-cup Contested since 1902, to be the oldest football tournament in the country. A clean knockout-tournament, without second legs or returns with draws. 90 minutes, then extra time, then penalties if needed. There was return legs when draws in the final as late as in the 1990's, but this is stoped now. The final usually ends the season, at Ullevaal stadion in Oslo, but this season, the final will be played before the end. The final is most seen match in Norway and it's filled with traditions, with national anthem before the match and the winners getting the trophy from the king. Did you know that no Norwegian Cup Finals have ended 0-0 as well? Recent winners: 2010 - Strømsgodset 2009 - Aalesund 2008 - Vålerenga 2007 - Lillestrøm 2006 - Fredrikstad 2005 - Molde 2004 - Brann 2003 - Rosenborg 2002 - Vålerenga All teams in Norway are playing, but only teams from the best three divisions are qualified from the first proper round. All the others have to get through two qualification rounds. First round proper is the big day for the smaller teams, as the Tippeligaen teams have to play away from home. Same goes for the Adecco sides, so teams at level 4 gets visitors from a local big side. Both the first and the second round are usually in May/June, but this year, both the first and second round will be in May. In the third round, Tippeligaen teams might have to play Adecco sides, so this round always gives a few surprises. This round is between June and July, this year to be held in June. Round of 16 will be in July, and the FA will actually decide what sides who'll play at home. Lets say Stabæk drews Rosenborg, the FA sees who's been playing most away from home. If Rosenborg have played three teams far from home, they will get to play at home. This is also the system for the quarterfinals, thats always in the middle of August. Semifinals in the middle of September. Here - the homesides get drawn. Final in the first weekend of November. First round now then, let's take a look at the 16 sides who'll play a Premier side. The Premier sides have won all the first round games since 1993, but this has been a weird season so far - can the bomb slam this year? Holmlia (to play Stabæk) ![]() Comes from Oslo, formed in 1983 and ready to play in the first round for the first time. Have only been in 3.divisjon (level 4) in two years, so this team is a massive underdog. Plays in red - at their homeground Lusetjern. Oldenborg (to play Vålerenga) Also from Oslo. Formed by christian students as late as in 1999, and they play at level 5 in 2011! As late as last year, they actually played another Premiership team - Kongsvinger - in the first round, and lost only 1-0! The Vålerenga match will apparently be played in Frogner, Oslo. Became famous for their cupsong in 2010 - as you can see over. I suppose you reckognize the melody Korsvoll (to play Fredrikstad) ![]() Once another Oslo side! Should be a lot of fans coming to the capital this weekend... Korsvoll is a small place in Oslo, with many great houses and apparently the better people lives. Played at level three a few years ago, after beating Elverum in the play-off final for promotion. Even played Stabæk in the cup once, and their keeper managed to score and make it 2-2! Stabæk won 5-2 after extra-time, though. Fu/Vo (to play Lillestrøm) ![]() Funnefoss/Vormsund, a club merged in 1967 (both originally formed 30 years before). They come from a place not too far from Lillestrøm, and what do you know. Their homeground, Funnefoss stadion, has a stand that is originally from the old Åråsen - Lillestrøm's stadium! So this is technically a homegame for LSK ![]() Fu/Vo's best result in the cup was the first round in 1983 - where they only lost 0-1 for Kongsvinger. Kongsberg (to play Strømsgodset) ![]() An old Norwegian town, the oldest industry place in Norway. Never had a Premiership team, this place. Someone says that God forgot to give them a football when he created the town. Football has been a part of the town since 1899, though, and the club has a goal to promote to Adeccoligaen in a few years. Good luck, Kongsberg! Eik-Tønsberg (to play Odd Grenland) ![]() Well known club with decent results in the Norwegian football history. Was the third best side in 1960, and they have also had some great names playing here - like Manchester United's Ronny Johnsen or former Tottenham keeper Erik Thorstvedt. Eik have a great cuphistory, and they even were in the semifinal in 1989, losing 1-0 to Molde. They were also in the quarterfinals back in the 50's, where over 15.000 saw them drew 1-1 with Fredrikstad. Last year, they lost the play-offs to Kvik Halden, which means that Eik is playing at level 4 in 2011. Can they make trouble for Odd, who only just got through the first round in 2010? Arendal (to play Start) ![]() One of the biggest cities in Norway who's never had a Premiership team. Comes from the south, has a total 42.000 innhabitans and they currently play at level 4. Their area, Aust-Agder, is the worst football area as well - they are one of two areas who's never had a Premiership team, and they don't even have a team in Adecco or 2.divisjon either... I really hope they will make it to a higher league, they seem cool - their website is actually very good as well! But they won't beat Start, will they... Egersund (to play Viking) ![]() Egersund is a small coast town in the south west of Norway. They speak a weird dialect here that you can reckgnoize in the entire country. The city is old, over 200 years, and they have kept the old buildings so it's a good looking place. But what about the football? Well, their logo is cool at least! Their web is great too, and has an English section for their foreign fans! ![]() "The "Egersunds Idretts Klubb" (Egersund Sports Club) is a multi-sports club, where members also participate in handball and athletics. Altogether the club has close to 1.000 members, with football being by far the most popular sport. The club's colours are yellow and black, with the first team being nicknamed "Tigers" because of the striped shirts and the club's crest. The club is located in Egersund, a small town on Norways southwestern coast with around 13.000 inhabitants. The town itself is Norways biggest fishing port, and also has a large wharf with close to 900 employees. Our first team was promoted to the second division in 2004 for the first time in eleven years, but were relegated again after just one season and sincee then we have played in familiar territory in division 3 (level 4). As important as our first team is the fact that the club has one or several teams in every agegroup for both boys and girls from the age of six onwards, playing in different local leagues. The club also has it's own clubhouse (See ground section) where most of our activity is based. The parent-club is run by an elected board covering all sports, but the annually elected board of football runs most of its own business." TC2's new favourite side? ![]() Vaulen (to play Haugesund) A part of the city of Stavanger. Never heard of this place before to be honest. Apparently, they only lost 1-2 to Viking in the first round in 2005, after taking the lead! The leader goal was a backpass from Viking's defence, though, so an owngoal... Vaulen plays in orange jerseys and their homeground is named Vaulenbanen. Plays at level 4. Tertnes (to play Brann) ![]() Tertnes is a place in Bergen, well known for having one of the country's best woman handball teams. Their footballteam is less known and should be struggling to beat the best side in town... Saga (to play Sogndal) Sogndal has been the worst side in Tippeligaen so far, can they raise the team's confidence against Saga? Saga was formed in 1991 apparently, and they play at level 4, in the city of Førde. Not much more to say I guess Their homeground is called Førde stadion and seems nice...Stranda (to play Aalesund) ![]() Stranda is a little community an hour outside the city of Ålesund. I suppose all of you have seen pictures of Geiranger, where Chris and I were in the summer of 2009. Well, that is owned by Stranda, even though the proper city is like a half hour away! Gonna support Stranda for this one, as my father is born there. This should be a beautiful match between two nice-looking places. Eidsvåg (to play Molde) ![]() Plays in brown jerseys actually! Eidsvåg is basically just a little place in the small town of Nesset. In 2008, there were 901 people living there! Doesn't really sound like a threat to Molde, does it? Alvdal (to play Rosenborg) ![]() I have kinda presented this team allready, as I posted a reportage about the local derby between Alvdal and Tynset, where the homeside went through after penalties. Now, they are up against Rosenborg. Just imagine us losing here, that would have made the crisis completed! Alvdal is a small village 200km south for Trondheim, about 3 hours with car. It's exactly between Elverum and Trondheim so I usually stop there when I'm going home. Alvdal is well known for being the birthplace of Kjell Aukrust, a famous man in Norway for making one of the most seen Norwegian movies Flåklypa. Should be a fun match at Steinmoegga! Finnsnes (to play Tromsø) Tromsø's opponents comes from the town of Finnsnes, plays at level 4 in their green and black jerseys. Their stadium, Finnsnes stadion, has a total capacity on 2-3.000. Their current manager, Bjørn Johansen, has played many games for Tromsø as well. Sprint/Jeløy (to play Sarpsborg08) ![]() Plays their homegames at Bellevue stadion. Comes from a place not too far from Sarpsborg, and the side is called "the men from the island", becuase Jeløy is an island. Many great women footballers comes from this place apparently, and this side has had a Premier side in women football. Like I said, no first round slams since 1993. Can one of these sides go through? |

Norwegian FA-cup - first round today!![]() Rosenborg might be playing in the Champions League in a few months - tonight they visit THIS stadium! At 18:00 my time, all the games takes place. Since 1993, all Tippeligaen sides have survived the first round. Will the bomb slam tonight? Rosenborg have, during the ten last seasons, scored a total 101 goals in the first round, let in two. I remember we used to win like 17-0 and 15-0, but the two previous seasons, we have only managed to score 4! Hopefully we can get more tonight, in the beautiful village of Alvdal! Hoped to go there, but can't afford it, I'm afraid.... Would be cool to be going to many games in a row! Been to four before this one, and after this I'm going to two more ![]() Games with Tippeligaen sides in action: Stranda - Aalesund Tertnes - Brann Korsvoll - Fredrikstad Vaulen - Haugesund Fu/Vo - Lillestrøm Eidsvåg - Molde Eik Tønsberg - Odd Grenland Alvdal - Rosenborg Sprint/Jeløy - Sarpsborg08 Saga - Sogndal Holmlia - Stabæk Arendal - Start Kongsberg - Strømsgodset Finnsnes - Tromsø Egersund - Viking Oldenborg - Vålerenga It's cupfest in every part of the country now! 1st of May, beautiful weather and everything (at least in Trondheim)! Can't wait! I think Odd and Haugesund will be the teams that struggles most. Maybe Sarpsborg. Stabæk and Rosenborg to hammer their sides. ![]() Lusetjern kunstgress in Oslo - venue for fest against Stabæk In Adecco, Sandnes-Ulf opened the first round of the cup yesterday, by beating Brodd 1-0 away. The other sides are in action in the following arenas: Drammen - Hønefoss Fjellhamar - Kongsvinger Harstad - Alta Husøy & Foynland - Sandefjord Kattem - Ranheim Moelven - HamKam Ottestad - Nybergsund Skedsmo - Strømmen Sortland - Bodø/Glimt Staal Jørpeland - Bryne Ullern - Asker Urædd - Mjøndalen Vadmyra - LøvHam Vard Haugesund - Randaberg Volda - Hødd Other interesting matches are: ELVERUM to play Kjelsås at home! Great chance for Elverum to qualify to the second round. If so, that will be the first time since 2000 or something! Kjelsås is better than us, but they do play in the same division, and we have homeground advantage... We have started so well in the league too, please let's advance! I'm going to follow this one with tense. Charlottenlund - Tiller. Trondheim derby between north and south. We go for Tiller here, eh, Chris? Considering going there. KIL/Hemne - Kristiansund. Cathy's side in action at Kyrksæterøra. Hemne beat Molde as late as in 2007, and nearly pissed on us the upcoming round! Come on, let's have a slam (not in Alvdal) and let Elverum go throoooooooough!!! |

Norwegian FA-cup - first round scores:![]() Boakye and Fellah celebrating for Vålerenga. Photo: VG All Tippeligaen sides through, in spite of Tromsø being 3-2 down after 25 minutes!! Finnsnes was beaten 3-6 in the end, though. Sarpsborg and Stabæk only won 1-0, while Vålerenga impressed much with their 12-1 over Oldenborg, which gave VIF a new club record! Solskjær and Molde beat Eidsvåg 11-0. Rosenborg beat Alvdal 7-0 Scores: Tertnes - Brann 0-3 Korsvoll - Fredrikstad 0-6 Vaulen - Haugesund 0-10 Fu/Vo - Lillestrøm 0-3 Eidsvåg - Molde 0-11 Eik Tønsberg - Odd Grenland 1-4 Alvdal - Rosenborg 0-7 Sprint/Jeløy - Saprsborg 0-1 Saga - Sogndal 2-6 Holmlia - Stabæk 0-1 Arendal - Start 2-5 Kongsberg - Strømsgodset 0-8 Finnsnes - Tromsø 3-6 Egersund - Viking 0-4 Oldenborg - Vålerenga 1-12 Stranda - Aalesund 0-8 Total 9-95. Can't believe they managed to score 9! I told you Vålerenga would make a goal bonanza! Said the same for Stabæk, though... The biggest slam was Adecco leader Bryne's early exit against Staal Jørpeland, who won 2-1! Sindre Fjelde and Arne Dalehaug scored for Staal before half-time, and Bryne didn't get the goal back before the injury time! Former Viking player Martin Knudsen plays for the small side at level 4, and he said this to VG: "I knew we could win if we played at our best. And so we did in the first half. In the second half, our great keeper and defence kept it going" Of the other Adecco sides, Nybergsund struggled to beat Ottestad from my neigbour town Hamar. The team from level 4 kept them to 0-0, but lost 0-1 in the extra-time. One of their players got sent off for attacking the referee apparently! ![]() Staal Jørpeland celebrating their epic 2-1. Photo: VG Non-Tippeligaen scores: Brumunddal - KFUM Oslo 2-3 Byåsen - Mo 2-1 Birkebeineren - Raufoss 3-2 after extra-time Bjarg - Nest Sotra 4-0 Bærum - Ullensaker/Kisa 5-1 Charlottenlund - Tiller Drammen - Hønefoss 1-5 Elverum - Kjelsås 1-2 Fana - Austevoll 3-1 Fjellhamar . Kongsvinger 0-10 Fløy - Fram 5-0 Fløya - Skarp 0-1 Fyllingen - Førde 2-1 Gjøvik - Frigg 3-1 Hammerfest - Tromsdalen 1-9 Harstad - Alta Hasle-Løren - Moss 4-2 Husøy & Foynland - Sandefjord 0-5 KIL/Hemne - Kristiansund 0-1 Kattem - Ranheim 0-4 Lørenskog - Lillehammer 1-0 Moelven - HamKam 0-3 Nesodden - Follo 2-0 Notodden - Jevnaker 3-1 Ottestad - Nybergsund 0-1 after extra-time Senja - Mjølner 3-2 Skarphedin - FK Tønsberg 2-3 Skedsmo - Strømmen 1-3 Sortland - Bodø/Glimt 0-4 Staal Jørpeland - Bryne 2-1 Steinkjer - Levanger 1-2 after extra-time Stjørdals/Blink - Strindheim 2-1 after extra-time Stord - Åsane 1-3 Søgne - Vindbjart 2-3 Tornado Måløy - Herd 4-0 Træff - Bergsøy 4-1 Ullern - Asker 0-2 Urædd - Mjøndalen 1-7 Vadmyra - Løv-Ham 1-3 Valdres - Skeid 1-3 Vard Haugesund - Randaberg 0-2 Verdal - Nardo 3-0 Vidar - Kopervik 2-1 Volda - Hødd 1-4 Ålgård - Mandalskameratene 1-2 after extra-time Ørn-Horten - Pors Grenland 4-4, 4-3 penalties. Aaaaah, so close for Elverum, I thought we deserved this! Was out with some class friends, and kept checking my phone for the scores. Were 1-0 for a looong time, but when I went on to check a few mins before the end, it was 1-2! Two quick goals, one of them a penalty, made Kjelsås win 2-1. In the 82nd and 86th minute! I saw Odd Grenland was 3-0 down to, and we had a good laugh. Then they changed it to 0-3 Could have been an epic day with Elverum going through and Odd out!Follo lost too, haha! Revenge! mwaha. Only one match went to penalties as well! Drøbak Frogn and Kvik Halden to complete the first round tommorrow. |

Molde takes on Rosenborg in the weekend, to a very important derby for both sides. Therefore, it was bad news that BOTH of their central defenders Kristofer Vadshaug and Vegard Forren got injured last night, when MFK hammered Eidsvåg 11-0 in the cup. Solskjær now admits it was stupid to use them. Oooh, not so funny winning 11-0 anymore, MOLDE?
