Norway seems to be the best place for stadiums. The settings for Molde, Viking and Aalesund's stadiums are great! :notworthy: It's so cool that I've been to a few of these stadiums B)

I hope Norway can do better in Europe next season. Rosenborg for the Champions League group stage! Perhaps this year is the beginning of something special - European club success and Norway qualifying for Euro 2012!

Who are they?
Posted Image
Rivals Sarpsborg (blue) and Fredrikstad are two of the sides that promoted from level 2 in 2010...

Three teams promoted to Tippeligaen 2011 from last season. One new faces, some we know from before and someone comes back from six years in the shadows.

Posted Image
Sogndal IL
Comes from the little village with the same name, well known for making lemonade. In Norway, we simply call Sogndal the lemonade village. The place only consists 7000 people, and their stadium holds 6000 seats - quite a large percent of the people!

Sogndal has raised quite many talents in Norwegian football. Former Chelsea and Rangers player Tore André Flo, his brother Jostein and their cousin Håvard Flo are just examples. They come from the neighbour town Stryn, though, but their careers started properly here. Håvard is yet to take another season I think, in spite of being 41 years.

Relegated in 2004, they are finally back, and it will be cool to see if they manage to survive! They won the Adeccoligaen last year, and the statistic is clear: Teams who promotes as winners, don't relegate. The last time that happened was when Haugesund relegated in 2000.

Celebration scenes

Looks boring at the start, but see after 1:48! Great scenes in the little town!

Sarpsborg08
Sarpsborg08 is a collaboration of two former rivaling clubs in Sarpsborg: Sparta and Sarpsborg FK. Having not been in the top league since 1975, they decided to make a new side, since both of them wanted the same thing: To see elite football in the town they love.

Their neighbour city, Fredrikstad, are their huge rivals and these sides have played quite a few important games the previous seasons. In 2009, Sarpsborg beat Fredrikstad in a play-off semifinal to make their rivals relegate - one year after they won silver in the top league.

Last year, Sarpsborg trashed Fredrikstad twice - in order to get the direct spot for Tippeligaen 2011. Fredrikstad ended up winning it, so now they will play each other in the top league. Should be two good games!

Posted Image
Fredrikstad FK
One year was enough for FFK at level 2. The club from the great football city Fredrikstad are back in the most glorious league in Norway.

Fredrikstad have a huge history. I won't bother you with too much facts, but they have many titles from the 50's and 60's. They were the first side that represented Norway in the League winners cup in 1963, where they beat Ajax 4-3.

Between 1984 and 2004, they were in lower divisions. As soon as in 2002, they played at level 3, but two quick promotions put them back in the top league, after 20 years of absence.

Saving the spot in 2004 and 2005, they won the cup in 2006, opened a new stadium in 2007 and ended 2nd in 2008. After a great run of sucsess, they totally collapsed and relegated in 2009. Can they bounce back and make more history now?

Amazing celebrations. I love such atmosphere!

I was surprised when Fredrikstad went from second to relegation! I think they'll survive next season. As for Sogndal and Sarpsborg, I'm not sure, but I think they'll be around the relegation places  I'm surprised Haugesund did so well last season - sixth place I think!? They'll slip this season :neutie:

Hopefully! Started off great with three of three wins in 2010... But I won't celebrate before it's official! I grew up in a fail-to-qualify-generation :P

As for Rosenborg, we need to improve the team. The current squad is not good for Europe I'm afraid...

Rosenborg have signed a new striker! Boti Demel, comes from Ivory Coast, born in 1989. Has played for Benfica, bought him from Mika.

New African hope in Rosenborg, after Annan and Traoré left. Konan and Koné were great too, so we have good experience with African players. Hopefully he can score goals regulary :neushades:

Stadium boom in Tippeligaen

If you think the stadiums in Tippeligaen are small or even ugly: Look at how it USED to be. Even in far modern time, many of the stadiums looked like 7th level stadiums in other countries, where neighbour houses could watch games from their balcony. It looked like the games could be stoped due to the local trains that passed by over the pitch. Luckely, there have been a huge makeover. Look at the result!

Aalesund
Posted Image
For 99 years, Kråmyra was the homeground of Aalesund. When they made their debut in the top league in 2003, they were basically playing in the woods! I think it's kinda charming, though, you've got to admit it was a nice location! But seriously, thousands of people sitting on a hill to watch Premiership football? Color Line stadion must have been a good change, when they built that for 2005!

Kråmyra picture belongs to aafk.no

Brann
Posted Image
Brann had a makeover in 2006, where they built a new stand behind one of the goals, knocked down one of the main stands and put up a more modern one. The result was a new and good-looking top stadium.

The old picture belongs to fr.locr.com

Fredrikstad
Posted Image
Left old traditions at Fredrikstad stadion in 2006, drewing 1-1 with Rosenborg in their last game. Many league titles have been celebrated at that stadium. Now it's up to the new generation to make glory at their new and more modern stadium.

Lillestrøm
Posted Image
Lillestrøm upgrading their stadium in 2001, but lets the old stand be. It's still there.

Molde
Posted Image
Molde, who's now playing at the nice Aker stadion, used to play further into the town, at the old Molde stadion. A single stand, nothing to show off. It's still there, and being used by lower teams such as their junior sides.

Picture of Molde stadion is found at stadionsiden.com
The new one was found at 129.vgb.no

Odd Grenland
Posted Image
Once another massiv change! Now 13.000 seater, earlier it was like 3-4...

Their old main stand is now one of the stands behind a goal. After the 2006 season, they turned the pitch, instead of spending money to knock the old stand down. Smart solution from Odd! They have now changed the colour of the seats to black as well. coughdothesame,Rosenborgcough

Rosenborg

You can easly say that Rosenborg's entrances to the Champions League after 1995 has changed the look of the stadium. Still not BIG, or very good looking, but at least it's way better than the 1995 model. Imagine, they were playing Champions League groupstage matches there! No wonder why UEFA requested a change...

Stabæk
Posted Image
I hate indoor stadiums, but at least it's waaaaay better than the old Nadderud. I was there once, and the away stand is miles from the pitch... Doesn't look good either, so the move to Fornebu was not made too soon!

The Telenor picture was found at bigsoccer.com

Start
Posted Image
One single stand was the reality for the Start fans for several generations, forcing many fans to stand. As late as in 2007, they moved to Sør Arena, to get more space and a new look of their stadium. Nicely located as well!

The picture of Kristiansand stadion was taken from stadionsiden.com
The Sør Arena picture was found at knupps.net

Viking
Posted Image
The old Stavanger stadion was the home of Viking till the 2004 season, where they changed to the much bigger and nicer Viking stadion. Stavanger stadion was never the worst stadium in the league, though, and even teams like Chelsea have lost here! It's now upgraded as well, and now it's now a clean athlete venue.

The picture of Stavanger stadion was taken from stadionsiden.com

Vålerenga, Haugesund, Tromsø, Strømsgodset and Sarpsborg08 have not made major changes for a long time.

So...what do you think? Not so bad now, eh? :P

WOW they are some great stadium upgrades!

I remember we went to the Kramyra site and there was absolutely nothing there apart from a goalpost sticking out of the ground! I can't believe what it used to look like, I swear I've never seen a picture of it before (despite going to the old site and being told about it)!

Molde have completely changed - their old stadium looks terrible! The new stadiums might be 'small' but they're definitely more modern than the other ones, and I hope the other teams in the league upgrade theirs too! Tromso, please...

Indeed, it's so weird to see. In Tippeligaen 2011, the average of seats will be 12.500 pr stadium. I wonder what it was like 10 years ago!

Even though I only support Rosenborg, I think it's great when our rivals builds great stadium. Makes it cooler to go to awaygames as well! :neuwine:

Funny you mention that, Hugh! You're not the only one who has noticed!

14th of January 2008, the local paper in Sarpsborg had an article about how their crest was stolen! It came to mind when you mentioned, so I found the article here!

Translated it:

SA.no

- Have never seen Sydney's logo
Posted Image
The author behind the SFK Sparta's logo claims he has never seen the logo to Sydney FC.

SA's readers decided which logo to accompany the new club SFK Sparta. Now it turns out that the preferred logo is confusingly similar Sydney FC's logo.

- We received tips about the similarity last week and is working intensively to find a solution, "said general manager of SFK Sparta, Beatrice Hammerstad to SA.

The author of the logo, Ben Høst, delivered several contributions to the logo contest. He thinks the case is sad and claims to the SA that he has never seen the logo to Sydney FC before being presented to it this weekend.

- I'm as surprised as everyone else, he said to sa.no.

- I know it's hard to believe, 'cause I see that it's very similar. But I hope people believe what I say, he adds.

Høst has now submitted a written explanation to the management of SFK Sparta, to Beatrice Hammerstad, about how he has worked out the logo.

Beatrice Hammerstad says that the leaders of the club will meet up tonight to discuss what they should do about this situation.

- The decision must come quickly. Probably we will have a solution ready in the night, says Hammerstad.

Ben Høst's contribution was selected in competition with over 160 other proposals. It was the SA readers who voted on which logo they wanted. Before it had a jury picked out Autumn's proposal as one of several final candidates.

- We now collect information from all those involved in the case. So we'll see what we come up to, "explains Beatrice Hammerstad.

One thing is for sure: It is not difficult to see the similarity between SFK Sparta's logo and the logo of the Australian football club Sydney FC.

They even had a poll, where 58.1 % of the readers wanted Sarpsborg to CHANGE the logo!
38.2 % thought it didn't matter, while 3.8% had no opinion.

attach on rbkweb's forums

How can they believe this isn't stolen!?

If you turns Sarpsborg's logo around:
Posted Image

EDIT: o dear, even the biggest Norwegian newspaper VG picked it up and Sydney actually reacted! :ohdear

VG

Considering battle against Sparta logo
Posted Image
For the sake of clarity: Sparta left and right of Sydney FC
Australian Sydney FC Sparta perceive the new logo as an attempt to steal their own club brand.

Now, the Australian football club consider to take up the fight to remove the controversial logo. The emblem was created when Sparta Sarpsborg and Sarpsborg FK recently joined forces.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Sydney FC has allied itself with the Australian Football Association - to support the club's point of view.

- There are more than a striking resemblance, it is essentially a mirror image, said Sydney-director George Perry of the Australian newspaper.

He is supported by the designer who created Sydney's logo.

- There is a direct plagiarism. Most annoying is that it is used within the same sport, and it confuses as Sydney FC is about to become a global brand, says designer Paul Rhodes.

It is Ben Høst who designed the logo. A Sarpsborg-man who won a competition to shape the club's new emblem.

- We are going to go ahead with the logo of the Høst. He says that he has not copied the logo of the Sydney FC, and that we believe in, said Arne Hæhre in SFK-board at the weekend.

Come on, that was so stolen! :ohdear

Tippeligaen 2011

The hard second season
Posted Image
It was joy and celebration in Haugesund last season... What about this season?

Fortress Haugesund
Little, old Haugesund Stadium might not look mighty, but there is no doubt that the team's strong sixth place was secured at home season 2010. FKH lost only one match at home, the last home game against Molde. Haugesund will probably need a similar statistic this year to save the spot.

Predicting the wooden spoon is always difficult. Coincidences often makes a role into who ends up last. Last year it was Sandefjord, who also promoted the previous season. They started good last season too, with a win in the second round, but too many drawn matches made the team hopelessly far behind when the league was half played. Key players dissappeared, their self-confidence too, and suddenly the team went down with just two wins in 30 games.

I doubt Haugesund will do that bad, and I think the relegation battle will be close. So close that the spots won't be given before the very last rounds. Haugesund will probably be involved in the battle.

If Haugesund shall avoid relegation, their key players must do well. Keeper Per Morten Kristiansen did very well when they took their first point last year, and he was good through the entire season. Their young back, Joakim Våge Nilsen, had a good season as well. Forward, there are more interesting players. Thomas Sørum and Nikola Djurdic were two very good players last season, and if they do well again, will Haugesund not be easy to beat. Jacob Sørensen is decent. I will also add Eirik Mæland as one of the club's most talented players. Born in 1989, did a good job at the midfield for FKH last season.

The Manager
Posted Image

Jostein Grindhaug
One of the youngest managers in the league. A man with Haugesund written in his heart. Has played for Djerv1919 (based in Haugesund) and FKH for years. Retired as late as in 2007, when they lost the cupfinal, 0-2 for Lillestrøm.

In his first elite season as manager, he won the award for manager of the year, after taking Haugesund to a sensational 6th place.

Birthday: 20th of February 1973 (age 38)
Played for: Åkra IL, Djerv 1919 (1990-1993), FK Haugesund (1994-1999), SK Nord (2000), FK Haugesund (2001-2007)
Managed: Åkra IL (2008)

Quotes:
"Today, we deserved more than three points"

"We are mentally out of the game in short periods. Other than that, we were leveled. It annoys my fat that we lose this 4-1"

"It's so annoying. We knew he'd be there, we prepared for him, and then we get him in the arse after 20 seconds"

Grindhaug when Kovacs scored for Odd - after 20 seconds.

Finally...a video

Haugesund beating rivals Viking with 4-0. Some good goals here, all coming in the first half!
