Trouble for the pride of Bergen
Posted Image
They come from the second biggest city in Norway. Their fans sings loudest when they win, and they're always speaking loud before the season. Being a Brann-supporter is never boring. Neither will this season be. It can't be boring. But it won't be good.

Key players lost
2010 Was not good for Brann. The club was involved the relegation battle for a long time. Luckely, for them, they woke up in time and saved the horses. This year, the teams are stronger, the level is higher. And Brann have sold their best players from last season, Erik Huseklepp (to Bari) and Petter Vaagan Moen (to QPR)...

Champions of 2007.
October 2007. Brann celebrated the title after winning 4-1 against Viking at home. Their first league title since 1963 is secured. Finally. They are like Liverpool in a way. There are loads of Brann fans, they usually are in the top branch, but they never won. Until then. Runners-up in 2006, losing the tight title race against Rosenborg. Must have been extra hard since it was the Trondheim people who celebrated. Bergen really hates Trondheim. The hate is only partly requited. They hate us more because we are outstanding.

So what happened to Brann after they finally won again? There was a common "discharge" I think. You wait for something for like 40 years, you get it. Now they could relax. They enjoyed it while it lasted, instead of trying to make more glory. When Brann won the league in 1963, they relegated the season after. 2008 Could have been a copy. 2008 Was a joke. They ended at the bottom half of the table and lost 8-0 to Molde in the cup. Their season in Europe was not too bad though, only just losing to Marseille in the Champ.League qualification, and then droping out of the UEFA-cup - on penalties in La Coruña.

What now, Bergen?
Pre-season is about to end, it's time to fight for points. It's quiet in Bergen. Weird. I don't like it, though. An underrated Brann side is a hard Brann side. Maybe getting rid of the stars was a good move. New talents. New spirit. I hope Brann saves the spot. In the moment, it will be funny to see them relegate. But Tippeligaen needs them. Colourfull fans. It's always a loud atmosphere in Bergen. They are either singing loud or boo-ing.

Let's take a look at the squad then. Håkon Opdal is a fair keeper. Used to wear the national team jersey. Not anymore. Made too many mistakes. I guess he's still decent, though. Some unknown names in the defending line, but still some class. Hassan El Fakiri has the name. Bjørnar Holmvik is an offensive and good back. It does not smell goals of their midfield, though. Rodolph Austin... just muscles. Technic, ball control...doesn't excist. Erik Mjelde and Carl-Erik Torp are good players, but they can't lift Brann alone. Some youngsters there, they might be good. Brann actually won the junior cup last year, so the future should look bright! Brann hae bought Bentley from Odd Grenland too. Good signing! Good forward in Diego Guastavinho as well, brilliant player, but can be too egoistic. So annoying.

All in all, I can easly see this team relegate. It will be weird, since they have been in the elite since the 80's but I think the time is here now.

Squad:

Goalkeepers:
12.Håkon Opdal
24.Piotr Leciejewski

Defenders:
2.Birkir Sævarsson
3.Christian Kalvenes
4.Lars Grorud
7.Hassan El Fakiri
21.Zsolt Korcsmár
25.Yaw Amankwah
26.Bjørnar Holmvik

Midfielders:
5.Rodolph Austin
6.Carl-Erik Torp
8.Fredrik Haugen
10.Erik Mjelde
16.Bjarte Haugsdal

Forwards:
9.Kim Ojo
15.Diego Guastavino
20.Juninho

The Manager
Posted Image

Rune Skarsfjord
Quite unknown manager. From the north of Norway, where he also started his career. Was in Rosenborg for a few years, without putting his name in marks. Managers with names is not what Brann needs, though. He did his stuff well in Bergen when Steinar Nilsen was fired last season. Never change a winning formula, eh.

Birthday: May 23, 1970 (40 years)
Played for: FK Mjølner, Tromsdalen, Lyn, Moss, Fossum, Skjetten, Bærum
Managed: Rosenborg (assistant 2005), Haugesund 2006-2008, Brann (assistant 2009, 2010)

The fans
Posted Image

Brann fans are never boring, never quiet. I wouldn't say they are the best since they handle defeats very bad, but they are always loud and that's good. Very good at tifo's, and they are very proud of their team. They stand behind their 11 men every week, and the results means a lot to them. When they won the title in 2007, thousands and thousands of people went to town to celebrate. People cried, danced in the street and I believe the celebration date is a red day in Bergen.

I must really go to Brann-Rosenborg one day, that seems like a thrilled experience.

SK Brann - Bergens stolthet!

Finally...a video

Choosing this one. A great video, with feelings, goals, and celebration films from the 2007 season. You don't have to be Brann fan to enjoy this one!

So finally... what do you think? Bye bye, Bergen?

Wow, I didn't expect to see Brann there! The squad looks odd without Huseklepp! I never thought Brann would be down there again, but after looking at that squad - I don't see many big name players! Obviously you don't need big name players but it seems odd not to see many in the Brann squad!

It would be a shame if they were relegated. Perhaps I should revise my prediction that they'll bounce back this season (with Stabaek and Molde)...

Sarpsborg is back!
Posted Image
More celebration? Will Sarpsborg experience more celebration in Tippeligaen?

When Sarpsborg takes kick-off against Molde in 14 days, there will be 13300 days since Sarpsborg played a match in the Premiership - 18th of October 1974. The opponent back then, was Molde!

It's hard to place Sarpsborg on the table, when I don't know the quality of their players. Mainly unknown names, except for a few... Glenn Roberts used to be in Vålerenga, talented. Øyvind Hoås was in Sarpsborg's rivals Fredrikstad before, he is tall, over 2 meters actually. Martin Wiig as well, former Fredrikstad! Wasn't good enough for them, but he scored both goals when S08 beat FFK 2-0 in the play-off semifinal in 2009!

I've predicted all of the "new" sides to save the spot. I guess Sarpsborg will have a huge advantage with the lack of pressure. No-one expects something, all of their fans can't wait to hear the Tippeligaen anthem... This can only be good! But again, the squad is not good enough for something better, me thinks. Time will tell if I'm right!

Posted Image
Key player: Martin Wiig

Sarpsborg-Fredrikstad will be huge, anyway! Two derbies, two neighbour cities, there is not a far distance between those stadiums. That will be two full-packed crowds, and two games with more than three points in the pot. 13th of June, round 11 in Fredrikstad, and round 24, 25th of September in Sarpsborg.

Posted Image
Great rivalry!

Will be interesting to see how their crowd is too, I think this town has potential to become a "football town" with a good crowd, a mighty team and a known name. Therefore, I think that I predict a little bit with my heart and hopes, rather than my head here. Hopefully, Sarpsborg08 will build a great stadium too. I showed a picture earlier in the thread, about their plans. If that's the one they'll build, it will be good with an away trip down there!

14 Days left to kick-off, Sarpsborg! Two weeks, and you'll see some Premiership action again! Sarpsborg can't wait.

Now, let's take a look at their heroes for the season.

Squad:

Goalkeepers:
22.Joacim Heier
84.Magnus Hjulstad (84!?)

Defenders:
2.Hugues Wembangomo
4.Kjetil Berge
5.Joakim Eyde
6.Jo Nymo Matland
9.Berat Jusufi
13.Ole Christoffer Heieren Hansen
16.Magnar Ødegaard

Midfielders:
8.Morten Gievær
10.Michael Røn
14.Mehmed Divanovic
15.Joakim Jørgensen
17.Eirik Jonvik
21.Tobias Henanger
23.Tom-Erik Breive

Forwards:
7.Martin Wiig
11.Øyvind Hoås
20.Michael Trulsen
25.Glenn Roberts

2010: 2nd in Adeccoligaen

The Manager
Posted Image

Roar Johansen
Unknown name for me, but apparently a young and talented manager. Took Sarpsborg to their first promotion in 36 years, and became the coach of the year in Adeccoligaen 2010.

In 2009, Sarpsborg08 struggled and fought against relegation. When Johansen, an unknown 40 year old from Moss, came in charge, the reality turned. 13 Games later, they had only been defeated once and they ended up playing play-off final for promotion to Tippeligaen (lost 2-3 for Kongsvinger).

Sounds like a great manager, will be interesting to see how he is. Angry, calm, funny, boring?

Birthday: 19th of November 1968 (age 42)

Managed: Moss (junior side)

Finally...a video

Music video to a fan song, courtsey with highlights of them sending Fredrikstad down  Not so bad, to be honest.

So what do you think? Sarpsborg for Tippeligaen 2012?

Apparently, there will be a hotel with 20 floors.

This hotel will have an entrance into the press stand:

They also say that they will get rid of the ugly, yellow walls at the stadium, and change the colour of the main stand seats from red to black - sometime. :|

Seems cool this. I like upgrades

The team that never relegates
Posted Image

This team is Lillestrøm's, anno 1975. They had recently promoted to the top league, and some of them might have been nervous for relegation in their first season at top level. But they didn't relegate. They still haven't.

36 Years. No-one has been in the top league for so long without relegating. The small town of Lillestrøm, located a few miles north for Oslo. Only 30.000 inhabitans. But no-one can match Lillestrøm here.

However, it's been better days in Lillestrøm. They used to be a top team. Won a lot of cupfinals, league titles in the 1980's. But after their last title in 1989, it took them 18 years to win something again. And they have not taken medals since 2001. Looking at the squad, I'd say it's unrealstic to put LSK in the medal race in 2011 too.

Posted Image
36 Years with superpower. Lillestrøm's fans before kick-off in 2009 (In Telenor Arena)

2008 Was supposed to be the season for a new medal. They had four 4th places in a row, and now they were going to fight for the title. But that was the season of hell. They almost relegated. A night in October, they were 1-2 down at home to Rosenborg. We were singing "relegation, olé olé olé". An hour later, Lillestrøm had scored three. The spot was saved. The homefans sang "We'll NEVER relegate".

Two seasons later, they have only partly been in the relegation battle. But LSK is tired of fighting for survive now. They want to win something. Good results. I'm curious where they will be. Lillestrøm have never had squads that has made people think "Oh my God!". They have a good deadball taker, Karim Essdiri in 2011, and a lot of robust players. Deadballs, deadballs, deadballs. I think their centre back Frode Kippe was top scorer one season. Great player, getting older, but still going strong. Arild Sundgot, their all time topscorer, is not getting younger either. He is knocked out of the forward spots, now taken by Edwin Eziyodawe and Anthony Ujah.

This team can't end at top five, I rather think they'll relegate. That's why I put Lillestrøm 13th. Time will tell if LSK will be in Tippeligaen, for the 37th time in a row.

Will Lillestrøm ever relegate?

Henning Berg
Started his manager career in 2005, after getting 100 caps for Norway. A true legend in Norwegian football, being the first Norwegian to win the Premier League (with Blackburn) and later doing well with 66 games for Manchester United. Has won everything in England, plus Champions League. Until last season, he was the only player who had won the EPL with to clubs! Now, Anelka and A.Cole are on that rare list too.

Has done well so far, in my opinion. In spite of his young age, and short career, he has got decent results. Lyn were mighty under his charge, took medals and was a threat. When he left, they relegated at once.

However, Lillestrøm SK is expected to be a top club, and they want results this season. If they don't, will Berg be sacked?

Birthday: 1st of September 1969 (age 41)
Played for: Vålerenga (1988-1991), Lillestrøm (1992-1993), Blackburn (1993-1997), Manchester United (1997-2000), Blackburn (2000-2003), Rangers (2003-2004). Norway (1992-2004)
Managed: Lyn (2005-2008), Lillestrøm

The fans
Posted Image
The canaries. One of the absolute best in Norway. Åråsen is not a big stadium, it looks bad, but damn - their fans is worth a trip there. It's impressive really, coming from such a small town. Still having many good fans. Singing for their team, both home and way. Great tifos and they never stop singing.
Posted Image
Having said, that, they are mental, crazy and not to mess with. Lillestrøm itself is a bad place. Don't go alone there, wearing another team's jersey. And especially not Vålerenga or Rosenborg. It's always trouble when we are there. Even the police has made trouble. In 2008, the homefans used flares several times, without the police checking it. When we used it once, they went into the crowd, used spray, beat people who didn't do a thing, and brought unguilty people to jail. One year later, when we arrived in town, some casuals threw glasses and stones against us. A group called Ultras Felt C has been banned from Åråsen, after several incidents both home and away.

I like it mental! Go go!

Kanarifans on road trip to Molde. Distances don't stop the birds!

Quotes:

"HEY! SEND HIM OUT! ARGH, that is RED CARD. He has yellow from before, but do you think the referee has balls enough to give him another one? NO!"
Henning Berg in a live-interview during a match (Yeah, they do that sometimes in Norway - rarely, though)

"It's a difference to see football live and on TV. Some of the passes were good, and some passes surprised me, in a negative way"
Henning Berg watching football in 1993. Stating obvious stuff, there, Berg!

[/i]"The referee can't give a decission for something he can't see. Giving a penalty was right, but he can't have seen that"[/i]
Henning Berg bakes a referee for a CORRECT deccision, since he "can't have seen that"!

I must say, I love these in-depth profiles of the teams. Hopefully people are reading them at least if they're not posting! This must take so long to do!

Lillestrom! Didn't think I'd see them down there in your predictions. Lillestrom are cool, I've seen them live B) Do you remember the match, Marius?

They haven't been relegated since going up in 1975, wooooah! I'd predict them more midtable but you're more of an expert than I am (despite the fact I beat you in the rbk.no prediction league once - yes, I'm going to remind you again :P ). I'll have to predict the table myself later.

Looking at the fixtures for Rosenborg, and this is smooth stuff. Have a look:

Brann - Rosenborg
Rosenborg - Stabæk
Rosenborg - Lillestrøm
Fredrikstad - Rosenborg
Rosenborg - Vålerenga
Molde - Rosenborg
Rosenborg - Haugesund

Start - Rosenborg
Rosenborg - Sogndal

In orange: Games I'm planning on going to!

Bergen is too far to go to in March, but after that it's very realistic. Two homegames, awaygame in Fredrikstad, which is like 4 hours from Elverum. I'm home for easter then, so I'm planning on a trip there! Then there's another homegame, and away to Molde. I will be going there for sure! Haugesund at home at the 16th of May! A far away game then, before we finish the nice month at home to Sogndal.

In addition, there will be three cuprounds in May, and we usually play local teams in the first rounds. We also have a friendly at home between the 1st and 2nd game of the league
