Odd Grenland, hmmm. They seem like a mid-table team to me.

I don't like the open corners of their stadium. Frode Johnsen's back! That's where Andreas Lie went from Aalesund!

Do you remember watching Odd v RBK in Elverum after the HamKam game? 1-1 I think, with Bentley scoring a great goal :neushades:

Yeah, I remember hearing it on the radio home from Hamar. "ODD LEADS 1-0!!"

Strand's goal was even greater  :|

Hahahaha, have to show you this one:

Kjetil Rekdal (Aalesund manager) punished his players after horrible finishing on today's training (quite low quality on the strikers when we were there too, Chris...). All the strikers had to:

Posted Image

Aalesund's localpaper Sunnmørsposten

Kjetil Rekdal was in the bad mood at today's training in the Storhallen in Ålesund. At the end of the training, he made a contest between the outfield players and the goalkeepers.

The outfield players got points for each goal, while the keepers got points for each save or misses from the strikers. The final score was 20-0 for the keepers...

- We can go on like this for days without you scoring, Rekdal yelled to the AaFK-players in the end.

As a punishment for all the misses, all outfield players had to take their shorts down and set their "behind" straight on the icy snow.

- Just turn that camera away now!, Fredrik Carlsen screamed to Sunnmørspostens photograph.

Rekdal is a good man!

The unpredictable ones from south
Posted Image
There's no doubt this team can finish top 3. But then they need to be more established.

IK Start - what a weird team. You'd think there are 16 teams in this league, but there is in fact 17. The mighty Start, that is a threat to any other, and who beats everyone on a good day. Then we have the hopeless Start. Who should have been in a lower division.

Start have already relegated three times this century. They started with a relegation in 2000, and a new degradation in 2002, after taking only 14 points... The champions of 1980 was down with a broken back. But they bounced back.

A promotion in 2004 was almost followed by a league title in 2005 - the year of Rosenborg's fall. 25 Years after their first and only league title, Start was an offside flag from stealing the title from Vålerenga. Neither of the teams won any of their five last games (!), an incredible weak form for two title contestors. Start was leading before the last round, on goaldifference, and were playing Fredrikstad, managed by Drillo.

It started bad, with an early 0-1 goal. Start pressured, and Fredrikstad scored again before half-time. Against all odds. And even worse: Vålerenga were leading Odd away from home. The second half gave new hope as Odd made it 2-2, and Start got a goal back. Vålerenga never got their winner, so a 2-2 goal in Kristiansand would put the promoted team as winners. In the 88th minute, they got this goal. But the lineman got it all confused, in the fog. He thought Start's goalscorer was in offside.

He wasn't.

You judge

Two years after the almost-title, Start relegated. But if you thought they stoped being random there, you are wrong.

In 2009, they beat Rosenborg 3-2 away from home - after being down 2-1 with a minute to go. The only team who managed to beat the champions that season. In the same season, they also managed to lose 8-1 to Molde...

Posted Image
Start making trouble for Rosenborg

Same story for 2010...Losing 8-1, this time to Vålerenga, and 3-3 at Lerkendal. Start makes the stories, you can say!

So what now?

Espen Hoff, Fredrik Strømstad. Christer Kleiven. Kenneth Høie in goal. You are supposed to do it. Kleiven scored 9 goals last year - all done in the first half of the season... I think Espen Børufsen and Mads Stokkelien can do well too, both talented. This should be the last season for the legend Ole Martin Årst as well. legend Oladapo Olufemi seems good, an exciting player.

Squad:

Goalkeepers:
1.Alexander Lund Hansen
13.Johnny Kristiansen
24.Kenneth Høie

Defenders:
2.Brian Priske
3.Branislav Milicevic
4.Birger Madsen
17.Christian Follerås
20.Bård Borgersen
22.Avni Pepa
28.Rolf Daniel Vikstøl
29.Espen Knudsen

Midfielders:
5.Oladapo Olufemi
7.Fredrik Strømstad (on loan from Le Mans)
8.Espen Hoff
10.Solomon Owello
14.Espen Børufsen
15.Petter Bruer Hanssen
27.Morten Hæstad
30.Christer Kleiven

Forwards:
9.Ernest Asante
16.Jonas Werner
18.Mads Stokkelien
25.Ole Martin Årst
26.Jesper Mathisen

The Manager

Knut Tørum
Did well in Moss, which made him go to Rosenborg as assistant in 2006, in spite of being from the rivaling town of Bergen. When head coach Høgmo got ill in July, he had to step in, which made his break-through. RBK had been a bit up and down and were stuck in the middle of the table. Tørum got in, beat Lillestrøm, Vålerenga and Molde - and then five others, to put Rosenborg first. He finished the league with 12 unbeaten games in a row, and a new title to Trondheim.

2007 Never became a dance on roses, and we lost many games away from home. RBK were never in the title battle, but sensationaly qualified for the Champions League. Knut Tørum opened with a battle against Chelsea and Jose Mourinho. Being the youngest manager of the tournament (only 36), he managed a 1-1 tie for the Norwegians, and Mourinho got fired!

The incredible group went on, Schalke's manager was fired, but the real anti-climax came in October. Rosenborg had lost 4-1 to Lillestrøm four days before, but played like heroes and beat Valencia 2-0. In spite of that, Tørum was fired - and so was Valencia's manager!

Many experts in Norway meant that Tørum was treated bad in Trondheim, but the pressure was too big for Tørum here. A club like IK Start might fit him better - for now. But he is indeed a manager talent. Brann's next manager?

Birthday: 16th of August 1971 (age 39)
Played for: Brann (junior), Norway (G-15), Øygard, Telavåg, Kolbotn, Drøbak/Frogn
Managed: Kolbotn (1998), Norway (women) (2000), Norway U21, Moss, Rosenborg

Ah, Start. What a team. Good results some day, bad results the next. I think the 8-1 against Molde happened when I was there? I remember the 3-2 v Rosenborg too - what a team, so unpredictable

Obviously I'm not an expert on the Tippeligaen, but there are some familiar names in the Start squad - I know more of these players than some of the other squads! Espen Hoff, I swear he played for Stabaek? Mads Stokkelien I think you highly rate.

Definitely not offside in 2005! Start should have been champions, not Valerenga!

Great goal by the way!

Espen Hoff was in Stabæk, back in the time you were here. Struggled to play regulary, but scored now and then. Don't think he was in the lineup for the FCK match, let's check. I remember Berglund and Nannskog played...

I like Stokkelien! But he is a substitute, ridicilous. He has scored a few great goals too, he has a golden first touch. Come to Rosenborgggggg.

Solskjær is home
Posted Image
Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjær has returned to the club where the adventure started

1996. Solskjær begins the season as a star in Norway, playing for Molde. The babyfaced 23 year old doesn't look like a sniper, but he is. In June, he scores a fantastic goal for Norway, while United's leaders are ringside to sign a new contract with Ronny Johnsen. "Fergie, take a look at this Solskjær"

No-one believed it when he went over the sea to play for the reds, but Solskjær proved them all wrong in his first game. Man U beat Blackburn 4-3, and Solskjær scored the reds' winner goal. Norwegian Lars Bohinen scored hat-trick for Blackburn, but Ole stole the headlines with his first strike. His first out of many, including the 2-1 goal, far into the overtime of the 1999 Champions League final.

When Solskjær first arrived at Manchester United's training area, the other players thought he was a fan that had won a "dream day" ticket. When Solskjær returned to Molde, everyone, including the birds, knew who he is.

No wonder Molde wants to win this. But I think 2011 is too soon. Molde has a record runner-ups in the Norwegian football history. Always number two. In the 1990's, they were always Rosenborg's title contestors - and they always lost. They were a mighty side, and achieved a spot to the Champions League in 1999, where they won a match against Olympiakos as well. Between 2003 and 2008, Molde fell and even relegated. But in 2009, they were back and did very well finishing second. The Senegalese trio P.Diouf, M.Diouf and M.Thioune were mighty. After Diouf left, they struggled more.

Posted Image

Molde is a small place with only 20.000 people, but Kjell Inge Røkke (used to be Norway's richest man) makes up for it. He has spit a lot of money into the club, and their beautiful stadium is financed by Røkke himself. He has even got an apartment inside, where he can eat dinner while he watches football live. No need to say why we call the stadium the "Røkkeløkka".

Posted Image
Kjell Inge Røkke

So who will be Molde's keyplayers then? Their midfield is strong. The hated Magne Hoset, and mr.Molde himself Daniel Berg Hestad. Both big hate objects in Rosenborg. El Makhtar Thioune is mighty with the ball as well. Pape Pate Diouf to score the goals, and Vegard Forren to stop the others from attacking. Will be cool to say the Norwegian talent Magnus Eikrem, on loan from United as well. Solskjær's contacts in Manchester should pay off a bit, eh.

Her kommer Molde. Their fan song, and it's pretty good. Cool vid with goals, fan vids and subtitles (not that you understand a word of the subs, though) Worth a look! See the nice angle of the stadium in the start of the video as well. Nice!

The vids are from 2009, so you can see the Senegalese domination

1:53 - Magne Hoset. We hate him.

Molde, your second favourite team (you seem to check out their website alot :neuthink: )

They don't seem the same after Mame Biram Diouf left. They struggled last season, and although I expect them to do better (like Stabaek), I don't think they'll win it. Perhaps 5th or higher is correct.

Cool that Solskjaer is managing them. He's already used his contacts in Manchester it seems with a player like Sean Cunningham in the squad :neulol:

"When Solskjær first arrived at Manchester United's training area, the other players thought he was a fan that had won a "dream day" ticket." - seriously?

I'd love to see Molde-Rosenborg (or RBK-Molde)! Lovely stadium and what a setting! I'm so glad we saw it :)

Indeed. Roy Keane said so in his biography. And David Beckham. Solskjær is actually the godfather of one of Beckham's kids! I remember when Sir Alex kicked his shoe in Beckham's face.

Tsk tsk, Solskjær.

Molde-Rosenborg 6th of May, can't wait! You have to join that some time. You might get to come to Rosenborg-Molde this year, though, in August!

Hungry for results

Stavanger have everything. Except for a winning team.

They're coming from the 4th biggest town in Norway. They have a great looking stadium. 16.000 fans. A decent set of players. The club even leads the marathon table from 1949 (5 points down to Rosenborg). But Viking is frustrated. In November 2011, there will be ten years since they won something, and 20 year since they won the league.

Posted Image
Will we ever win?

So, let's take a look at the players who's supposed to turn this around.

Rune Almenning Jarstein must do his job well in goal to make Viking fly. Trond Erik Bertelsen is considered as one of the league's best backs. Indirdi Sigurdsson too, great defender. Birkir Bjarnason has been boss of the midfield for a few seasons, Tomasz Sokolowski was once one of the greatest talents in Norway. Tommy Knarvik is a good add to the squad. The biggest name of the team is Erik Nevland, who has several goals for Fulham in the Premier League.

Meh. They have the names. Not the talent. I'm afraid.

Squad:

Goalkeepers:
1.Rune Almenning Jarstein
2.Arild Østbø
3.Aslak Falch

Defenders:
2.Trond Erik Bertelsen
3.Johan Lædre Bjørdal
4.Björn Andersson
6.Håkon Skogseid
13.Christian Landu Landu
20.Indirdi Sigurdsson

Midfielders:
7.Tomasz Sokolowski
8.Vidar Nisja
14.André Danielsen
15.Tommy Knarvik
19.King Osei Gyan
21.Birkir Bjarnason
22.Valon Berisha

Forwards:
9.Patrik Ingelsten
10.Erik Nevland
11.Bengt Sæternes
16.Yann-Erik de Lanlay
18.Andreas U.Andersen

Full name: Viking Fotballklubb

Åge Hareide
Very good club manager. Failed with Norway, where he was in charge from 2004 to 2008, but he has great results in club football. He was won all the three Scandinavian leagues, which only Erik Hamrén can match. Hareide won with Helsingborg (1999), Brøndby (2002) and Rosenborg (2003). The question if how good he can do with Viking.

Birthday: 23 September 1953 (age 57)
Played for: Hødd (1970-75), Molde (1976-81), Manchester City (1981-82), Norwich (1982-84), Molde (1984-87), Norway (1976-86)Managed: Molde (1985-91, 1993-97), Helsingborg (1998-99), Brøndby (2000-02), Rosenborg (2003), Norway (2004-2008), Örgryte (2009)
