The last space shuttle launch is at 1626 BST today. However, weather could stop Atlantis going today and it might be delayed.

Anyone else fans of space etc? :P I love it to be honest, and it's a shame the space shuttle programme is ending.

- Timeline of the space shuttle in history

I'm sure NASA's website will show the launch (if it goes ahead) if anyone's interested. BBC News will for us in the UK.

So, why is it the last one? No more going into space? Don't know much about it.

It's very expensive, maybe that's why. Like £600.000.000 every time.

Exactly, it costs alot I guess. They'll still go into space and I think they're developing new spacecraft and are hoping commercial spaceflight can start happening soon. NASA will have to rely on the Russians to get to the ISS for now though.

Hasn't Obama saw Transformers: Dark of the Moon yet? The Decepticons are hiding on the moon ready to plan their attack on Earth...(Chicago actually....)

The shuttle has undocked for the final time.

They've left a flag up there for the first American privately owned space vehicle to reach the ISS - a bit like capture the flag then

Forgot to say also in response to Hugh's question - the shuttle is getting old and was becoming high-risk. They had to keep flipping the shuttle over once it was near the ISS to check if all the tiles were ok (on the bottom of the shuttle), otherwise it would be dangerous to re-enter Earth (if some tiles were missing). They want a cheaper and safer option now.
