you can download the demo on your PS3?! Might try that. It seems ok, though I think EA recognised that rugby games were actually really too hard to make and rightly gave up a few years ago. |

Yeah, you can! I noticed that Jake downloaded it and I did the same after. You can only play one half of England v South Africa though (on mine anyway). The game's ok, it feels exactly the same as the old Rugby 08 game to be honest. By the way, I added you on the PS3 a few days ago Anyway, back to the actual game of rugby. England announced their squad yesterday - no major surprises, although we called up uncapped scrum-half Joe Simpson (as Danny Care got injured). I don't really like picking uncapped players for big tournaments (in any sport) as I think they should have experience first, since is this is biggest tournament in the sport. He'll only be backup I guess, but still. I haven't seen him play but I presume he's decent if he managed to make the World Cup squad. He must get some playing time against Ireland in our last warm-up match. Reminds me of Theo Walcott in the 2006 World Cup 16 days to go! |

Whay, downloaded the RWC demo today! It's not too hard, but the controls are too confusing. I don't get how to 'win' rucks. I played for like an hour and pretty much got bored after that. Anyway, Australia just beat NZ to win the Tri-Nations Not the best match, NZ dominated the second half and came back from 20-3 down but Australia scored a try against the run of play and that was it. Good form going into the World Cup, and the All Blacks go in after 2 straight losses...

Woah, Australia actually beat New Zealand! Your first Tri-Nations title since 2001! The World Cup hasn't even started yet but maybe New Zealand are already cracking under the pressure... |

I get that feeling too. Playing at home is going to be too much for them. I just hope it doesn't come down to Australia to beat them.

England beat Ireland 20-9 at The Aviva the other day, if I'm not mistaken. |

Indeed! A great confidence booster for England. It's always tough beating Ireland in Ireland and we did it, so that's a great way to end the practice matches. |

8 days and 13 hours to go! Group predictions then? Pool A New Zealand France --------------------- Japan Tonga Canada Pool B England Argentina ------------------- Scotland Romania Georgia Pool C Australia Ireland ----------------- Italy USA Russia Pool D South Africa Wales ------------------- Samoa Fiji Namibia Can't see many shocks in the group stage to be honest. Samoa could finish ahead of Wales and Scotland could maybe qualify ahead of England or Argentina, but that's it really. Italy would have to be really on their top game to beat Ireland! |

I agree with all those picks actually. Pretty straightforward, the group stages. Looking forward to Georgia-Romania. Should be a great match!

Predictions for the knockout stages then, people? Pool A: New Zealand, France, Tonga, Japan, Canada Pool B: England, Scotland, Argentina, Romania, Georgia Pool C: Australia, Ireland, Italy, Russia, USA Pool D: South Africa, Wales, Samoa, Fiji, Namibia The top two teams from each group go into the quarter-finals as so: QF 1: Winner Pool C v Runner Up Pool D QF 2: Winner Pool B v Runner Up Pool A QF 3: Winner Pool D v Runner Up Pool C QF 4: Winner Pool A v Runner Up Pool B Predictions QF 1 - Australia v Wales - Australia QF 2 - England v France - England QF 3 - South Africa v Ireland - South Africa QF 4 - New Zealand v Argentina - New Zealand SF 1 - Australia v England - Australia SF 2 - South Africa v New Zealand - New Zealand Third place play-off - England v South Africa - South Africa 3rd Final - Australia v New Zealand - New Zealand win From the knockout stages I think the tournament is open. On a good day, England can win the tournament. We won the Six Nations and we're in good form, so it could happen. I think France could do well this year, and they deserve to after failing so often here. England v France is open. If France can beat New Zealand in the group and finish first then they can beat Argentina and reach the semi-finals for sure. England, if they finished first, would probably play New Zealand - and then we're out probably! Ireland are a great side on their day and if they play at their best, they could beat South Africa. I'm going for South Africa out of the two though. New Zealand might be nervous, as we saw in the Tri-Nations, but I fancy them to beat Argentina. Same for Australia over Wales. England have good form over Australia in recent World Cups, but I'm tipping Australia to get revenge this time. Overall though, I think this is New Zealand's year. Best team in rugby playing at home - definite favourites. England can do it though! |

Posted on L'EQUIPE too: http://www.lequipe.fr/Rugby/breves2011/20110905_214608_avec.html I don't know most of the squad, but I'll take Lievremont's word for it when he says it's the "team of the moment". I know we haven't been strong under him like we were with Laporte, but hopefully we do well. Japan shouldn't be a problem IMO. |
