Fiji 7 Samoa 27 Ireland 62 Russia 12 Argentina 13 Scotland 12 Unlucky, Scotland! They did well but conceded a try near the end of the match. They then missed a drop goal in the last seconds! |

Wales 81 Namibia 7 Standard result from Wales. Seemed like a good performance, even though I was falling asleep during the match

Yeah some of these matches are really boring, and the results really are a foregone conclusion. Scotland-Argentina was pretty good though. Hurry the the QFs already! |

Georgia 25 Romania 9. Nothing special. The group stage finally comes to a close at the weekend then. The remaining fixtures: Friday South Africa v Samoa Saturday Australia v Russia France v Tonga England v Scotland Sunday Argentina v Georgia New Zealand v Canada Wales v Fiji Ireland v Italy Can't see any shocks in the remaining games. I guess only Scotland, Fiji and Italy have any realistic chance of causing upsets. Scotland will be tough for England - they're obviously our rivals and could qualify with a win, so they'll be really up for it. We have to play like a World Cup winning team to win I think. I think Ireland will be too strong for Italy and I kind of hope they do win because England's side of the knockout stages would be easier

Before I mention England, let's look at France! Haha they lost to Tonga! France were terrible! They're already through but that's one of the biggest World Cup shocks ever! No doubt they'll surprise us in the quarter-finals now! England beat Scotland 16-12! Wilkinson kept missing penalties and it looked like we were going to lose 12-9 until Chris Ashton dived over in the final minutes. A great moment! We didn't play well but in a rivalry like this, only the result matters! Australia beat Russia 68-22. Haven't seen the highlights of this one yet, but I'm surprised Russia managed to score 22 points!

I can't really laugh much in case France beat England next The final group stage matches have been played: Ireland 36 Italy 6 Wales 66 Fiji 0 New Zealand 79 Canada 15 Argentina 25 Georgia 7 Final group standings: Group A 1. New Zealand - 20 points 2. France - 11 points -------------------------------- 3. Tonga - 9 points 4. Canada - 6 points 5. Japan - 2 points Group B 1. England - 18 points 2. Argentina - 14 points ------------------------------------ 3. Scotland - 11 points 4. Georgia - 4 points 5. Romania - 0 points Group C 1. Ireland - 17 points 2. Australia - 15 points --------------------------------- 3. Italy - 10 points 4. USA - 4 points 5. Russia - 1 point Group D 1. South Africa - 18 points 2. Wales - 15 points ----------------------------------- 3. Samoa - 10 points 4. Fiji - 5 points 5. Namibia - 0 points The group stage is over! I can finally sleep! Standard group stage finishes apart from Ireland beating Australia into first place! Unlucky Tonga - if they didn't lose to Canada then they could have qualified! Unlucky Wales too - they could have topped the group if the referees noticed that the ball did go between the posts, and then they would have beaten South Africa! The quarter-final line-up: Ireland v Wales England v France South Africa v Australia New Zealand v Argentina Ireland-Wales - great match-up! Both aren't bad and both can really do well on their day. I'm tipping Ireland for this one, but if Wales play at their best like they did a few years ago in the Six Nations, they could certainly win this! England-France - another great match-up. Can't pick a winner to be honest! I'll go for France so I don't jinx it South Africa-Australia - again, great. I'm glad two Tri-Nations teams are together so one will be knocked out early. I'm going for South Africa here. New Zealand-Argentina - New Zealand win here. How will they do without Dan Carter though? Ireland to beat Wales France to beat England South Africa to beat Australia New Zealand to beat Argentina Ireland to beat France New Zealand to beat South Africa Ireland v New Zealand final - New Zealand champions. Wow, I'm predicting Ireland to get to the final!

Ireland in the final? Really? Turns out to be Northern Hemisphere v Southern Hemisphere. I'm confident Australia can beat SA, which would set up a match with NZ. Their luck is starting to go out with Dan Carter! I really hope this is their downfall again! |

Yeah, I think they can do it. I can see Ireland beating England and France. Of course, they have to beat Wales first, which will be tough in itself. To be honest I wouldn't be surprised if any of the European nations made it to the final - they're all great on their day! Wales would be a little surprising, but they can play really good rugby sometimes. |

Wales 22 Ireland 10 France 19 England 12 England are out. England were poor and France looked up for it from the start. It was clear they wanted to make up for their loss to Tonga and they looked determined today. England were outplayed and were 16-0 down at half-time. Congrats to France, who meet Wales in the semis! Wales did really well today but I thought Ireland would do a little better than that. Oh well, that's my predictions out of the window then! |
