Before the Beijing Olympics, our media was talking about human rights abuses in China etc. Before the Euros earlier, they were talking about racism in Poland and Ukraine. What's the media's view on London 2012 in your countries?

Russia Today earlier today was talking about how we could use some of our army for security as if that's a major problem...

Curious to see how we're being reported around the world...

I heard something on CNN about security too a few days back, but nothing much besides the propaganda for the USA team, commercials and what not :|

Makes sense. You are going to have some bad press before all big events. If there is doubts about strength of security, then we've gotten off lightly. Gotta think it's only because of the events of a few years ago with the bombs in london. Such an event is always going to be a target for an attack wherever it is.

Sky News said there was a 50% chance that a dangerous weapon could go off during the Olympics.

Pfft, they're just playing it up because its in England, if it was Italy, France , Turkey or somewhere else.... they wouldn't have these reports.

I think this will be the most uncontroversial Olympics for sure..I did hear something about security but realistically it is a very safe country and it sounds like they are taking all measures to prevent an attack. I think the only other thing I heard was the the budget was something ridiculous like billions of pounds. Makes you wonder how any city is going to be able to host in Olympics in future.

Oh yes, that too. Apparently there could be strikes a day before the Opening Ceremony. Great. I think we organised the Olympics so well but the preparation has already been ruined by a security company not employing enough people :| and fools who want to strike on a really busy day for people coming into the country, a day before the event starts. Argh.

Hearing a lot about the transport as well, how is that Admin? Is it cause the Olympic site is an out of the way area?

It's not that far out, but it's not in the centre. You can easily get to it. It seems like people are getting confused with the 'games lanes' we have on the streets now (BBC News says anyway). They're like bus lanes but for Olympic officials, athletes and the media. There was an example earlier of a French convoy of like five cars who stayed in the normal lanes with the heavy, typical London traffic - and the games lane next to it was empty! People seem so confused  Motorists get fined £130 if they go into it, so people seem cautious.

Great start to the Olympics today: the South Korean flag was displayed instead of the North Korean one at the North Korea-Colombia women's football match earlier  The North Koreans protested and walked off for an hour!

What did the world think then? From what I've read, everyone loved it apart from the Spanish - one website said (about Boyle) "from Trainspotting to Disappointing" :| The Washington Post apparently said it was the "world's biggest inside joke" - did anyone else think that?

We get all yer TV so there were no inside jokes! I missed the first half of it, just got in for the parade of nations and the end. The speeches were cringe though, Britain as the home of modern sport, fuck off like :P
