Justin Trudeau, son of Canada's former Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau, will be the new Canadian Prime Minister after his Liberal Party went from third place to first.

Happy, John?

The only thing I know about the Canadian election, is that the former PMs band was awful.

We had an election? no way?

JK Hooray for Trudeau. I think most Canadians are happy except for the old racist, homophobic conservatives.

I see he's been sworn in now. I loved his "it's 2015" response to a question about his cabinet

Good to see he's carried out two election promises with the jets and the refugees! I'm not sure what I think of the jets yet but good to see he carried out a promise.

Jets? Promises? Refugees? Eloborate. In Norway Canada is like one of the boring American states, we never hear anything about what happens there unless it's something batshit insane.

Trudeau promised to withdraw Canadian jets from Syria, and said he'd welcome 25,000 Syrian refugees. He's withdrawn the jets and apparently this year they'll accept 10,000 refugees and the rest next year (I believe).

Sounds fair. There are enough people bombing civilians in Syria without Canada as well.

Surprised I didn't see this thread until now!

I voted Liberal this year (I'm traditionally an NDP voter), because Trudeau's platform is what made the most sense for me, and benefited me the most as a recent graduate. I've always liked Trudeau and think he brings in a lot of 'new generation' views. My riding - the Humber River Black Creek, has been a liberal stronghold for years, and the Liberal incumbent kept her seat with little contest from the other parties.

I liked Justin's 2015 comment too, but I always thought it was weird that one of his election promises was a cabinet with an even gender ratio. I want my cabinet selected based on skills, not gender. That said, I'm very happy with the cabinet selections after I did my homework on them.

Justin's father was a badass who didn't take shit from reporters, and Trudeau will go through a lot undoing the damage that former Prime Minister Stephen Harper has done. I'm excited to see what he continues to do. As long as he doesn't striptease again.

I think everyone wants a cabinet based on their skills, but unfortunately everyone these days looks to see how many men or women are in it! That's certainly the case here anyway.

Well, some men needs to be forced to see the skill of women to put them in leading positions. And to be fair, that's better than letting men just chose among their male friends without competence as well.

They've just announced that they're pulling out the jets. Nice to see a promise made.

About time. Only reason to have them there would be to shoot down the Russian ones.
