Italians have been voting in a referendum to basically streamline parliament: - Reduce the power of the second chamber of parliament which is currently equal to the Chamber of Deputies - Cut the number of Senators from 315 to 100 and strip the Senate of the right to hold votes of no confidence in the government - End elections to Senate and fill it with 21 regional mayors, 74 regional council heads and five other members selected by the president - Would apparently cut the cost of politics by €500m a year and speed up lawmaking by ending decades of parliamentary ping pong Italy struggles with bureaucracy and nothing ever happens. I think they need a yes vote... but exit polls look like no has won by around 60%! Eurgh. Renzi to probably step down shortly. |

I think Italy should have the same hidtorical cares as Germany with "streamlining government". Oyherwise this id actually news for me. Italy is just a part of Syden in Norway, so we don't give a fuck unless some tourist trap is sinking. |
